Hello everyone! So over the past 3 months or so some weird things have been going on around my apartment. It started with the tv and lights going off. One time I was lying in bed and the tv went off, and I could actually hear the button on the tv being pushed. Over the past 3 weeks or so, things have seemed to be progressing. My bedroom door shut on its own, and two different times I've heard light banging on my bedroom door while I was trying to sleep. I first thought that maybe it was a draft or something, but all doors and windows were shut and there was no AC or heater on. I've heard what sounds like footsteps in the next room, and the other night it actually felt like something ran its hand across my feet in bed. I haven't actually seen anything, but I definitely don't feel comfortable being home alone anymore. My question is, has anyone else experienced this before? And what did you do? Just ask it to leave? Thanks, I'm really getting freaked out!!!
I would move. But I have no toleration for freaky crap like that. None.
Yes I have. I "spoke to the spirit", asking who they were and why they were there. I told them if they would not persist in the disturbances that I would tolerate their presence. It seemed like a reasonable thing to do. Only one more instance happened and then they stopped. I think they meant no harm, were just testing me.
(yawns....) Goodnight all.
Not myself, but my mother and sister have both had some issues.
If it persists, try to figure out the name of whomever it is. Once you do that, call out to them and say, "[John] its okay. You're dead now. Walk towards the light. Its okay for you to go.You died a long time ago." Many times, it seems they listen. They are just confused people basically.
I can't wait to be a ghost so I can ignore people who ask me to go away.
Ah....i have had some kind of mild experience similar to this. Do a little research, find out what structure was there before your apartment complex, go to the library and look up obituaries, ask around to local historians...just see what comes up. Maybe you can actually find out a name, then you can address the problem directly by speaking to it using its name, names have power. esp on the "other side" Talk to it calmly, ask it questions, test it back if it tests you. However be prepared for the answers, they might not be pretty.
If you have no interest in digging and simply want it to stop, ask it to stop but make sure it knows you are not afraid of it. Use a mental trick to block out any fear you might have. (ie. envision yourself in a brick dome, safe as can be....when you feel threatened imagine the bricks sliding into place, protecting you)
Yes, I've experienced that stuff before. I tried talking to "it", to no avail. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and we moved.
Here's my story: http://caloriecount.about.com/ghost-stories-f t152592#12
Wow adolphs, much scarier than what's happening to me! I had the same experience with my cat. We were sleeping on the bed when he sat up really fast, perked his ears up and tracked something across the room for a good 30 seconds. My cat has also stared at the door when I hear the banging, so I know I'm not just crazy! The other night when I was really scared, I kind of freaked out and started yelling at it, telling it that its not funny anymore and I want it to stop. It hasn't yet, but I think I will try talking to it more calmly. And I don't necessarily think it's a bad/evil spirit, I just don't want it here anymore! Luckily, my fiance and I are in the process of applying for a new apartment, so hopefully we will be approved and we can leave this place!
Try burning some sage. It is supposed to help cleanse a space. You can find dried sage at a new age or metaphysical book store.
I personally haven't had experiences like this but my mother has. The house my parents lived in, when I was born, had a "poltergeist" or ghost, whatever you want to call it. It moved furniture around, opened cabinet doors, etc. My mother finally stopped moving things back where she wanted them. When she left stuff where the ghost moved things, it stopped moving things around. Apparently it just wanted things a certain way. They moved shortly after moving in but only b/c they bought a farm to move to (not because of the "spirit").

There's this and other folk "cleansing out spirits" remedies include ringing bells, banging on pots or even just sprinkling salt water around the room in a counter clockwise fashion.
Heh heh, the woman in "Paranormal Activity" is also named Kate...if anyone suggests setting up a video camera just say no...

Those two sound like you're setting yourself to be laughed at by your buddies hiding behind the curtains.
I always wanted to see a ghost, but never have. My mom passed away suddenly at age 64. My daughter was only 8. When she visited my dad a few years later she said she "saw Gramma walking through the livingroom." She described what she was wearing - an outfit that I remembered and one my daughter would have not seen.

THIS is cool (to me at least!). I've always heard that children are much more open to things like this and have a better chance of connecting with "the other side"
I went and saw Paranormal Activity (bad idea!) and it did creep me out that the girl and I have the same name! My fiance's mother passed away this past March and we thought maybe it was her in the house, but I talked to a priest and he said that it is too late, that if it were her it would have started almost instantly after she passed away? Not sure how true that is. But my fiance hasn't experienced anything weird. It has all been when I'm home alone or he is sleeping, and he doesn't really believe me which is annoying. I once saw a ghost in my parent's house when I was younger that nobody else saw, so maybe I am just more sensitive to these things than other people?
Is the house old? Do you know if it's near or built with any limestone? I've read that limestone is linked to a lot of poltergeist activity. I haven't looked into it much though.

i saw my papaw the night he died. he was sitting in the chair that was in the corner of my room...he said, go back to sleep sweetie, i'll be right here. he was, IRL in a hospital bed 20 miles away dying from lukemia.
I was 3/4, and didn't understand until i got older what this experience meant. I asked my mother the next morning where my papaw was (he stayed with us on weekends sometimes while my dad was away in the army) i was expecting to see him in the kitchen cooking breakfast or making coffee. Which is why i asked where he was, instead my mom told me he went to heaven.
I haven't seen him since, but i sometimes wish i would.

Oooh, how was it? I've heard it compared to Blair Witch... was it actually scary or just hokey? (Blair Witch was kind of hokey to me) If it was scary, was it the kind of scary that gives you nightmares for days? The Ring did that to me... couldn't sleep without a blanket covering the TV for a long time afterward.
I slept with the lights on for two nights after watching PA. Some people thought it was dumb; I watched it through half closed eyes and a sheet ready to be cast over my face. I watched it again the other night to see what I missed when I covered my eyes!
I have experience odd things from time to time- but the one thing; that has been scientifically explained was: Sleep-Nightmare Paralysis. I suffered through that when i was having man trouble in my early 20"s. I'd wake up from horrible nightmares; not being able to move; always laying on my stomach; with the sensation of a man creeping up my back- very heavy and distinct crawling on 4's. No- i didn't have an animal. I know it wasn't a ghost per sae- but the mere nightmare terror followed by sleep fright paralysis with that sensation in the pitch dark of night at 4AM (same time every night) was very real and scary to me. Gave me insomnia for a while. Then I just grew out of it.

This scares me! I dont know how you handled that. I have heard a lot of stories about this same kind of thing happening to people I know. Im glad it doesnt happen anymore.
I've had sleep paralysis before, too, although it has gotten better in recent years and it's not very frequent. I remember once when I was about 8 years old, I "woke up" and had the distinct impression that I was being held down by several hands all over my body, and the sheets were blowing around wildly as if in a strong wind. I tried to scream but couldn't make a sound. I haven't had any as vivid as that since, but I have had it happen several times when I felt like I was awake, and tried to speak, scream or move, but couldn't.
