i get into this around halloween...anyone have any good (and true!) unexplainable stories to share?

I have a couple...my mother (when I was a baby) was driving with me in the passenger seat.  She went past a small lake near our house and glanced over at it.  For a split second she says she saw an old wwII plane hovering over it, then it was gone.  She swears this is true to this day...i gotta believe her.

When i couldn't sleep one night after fighting with my boyfriend (now husband) i was looking out the window and a light flashed from pretty far away, then again brighter and closer to the window...it was a really 'white' light, like a huge star and took up about 1/3 of the space in the window.  Anyway, the next morning (after being significantly freaked out by it) I looked out the window and figured I'd be able to see the sky from there, but there were trees blocking the view, so whatever it was it was in our backyard floating around (i was on the second floor).

I have never had anything happen to me...and am happy that way. However, I LOVE listening to the experiences of others and I also love that show Ghost Hunters and any kind of paranormal investigating shows.  Hope to read some really good stories in this thread!

The spookiest thing that happened to me was the Stereo Noise.

I used to have a Stereo in my room, but I replaced it with a better one and the old one ended up in the basement. I plugged it in and listened to it occasionally down there. One day, when going down the basement, it started to play for a few seconds, before going silent.   I freaked out slightly, because no one was down there and I was on the stairs. I unplugged it and left it, going back upstairs.
The next day, I went downstairs again and, unplugged, it played again for a few seconds. (I double checked no one had plugged it back in. It was unplugged.)

When I was 9, my Great-Grandmother died after being in a coma for a month for head injuries she suffered in a car accident.  I was very close to her growing up, so when she died, I was devastated.  During the summer, my brother & I used to take turns spending a week with our grandmother (Great Grandmother's daughter) & grandpa.  One night while staying at their house, I had a very vivid dream, which I described to my grandmother the next morning.  That was the one of the few times I EVER saw my Nana cry.  She said I had described the house that my Great Grandmother grew up in in RI-where I have NEVER been nor have I ever seen.  I dreamed of my Grandmommy that night & have several times since her death.  I am convinced that she watches over me.

I sort of collect these kind of stories...my friend got married a couple of summers ago and during the day (I was in the wedding) it rained all through the ceremony (really raining hard) but got a little sunny while we were outside taking the pictures.  Then during the reception it rained really hard again.  She told me the next day that when she was born, her grandmother called her  a ray of sunshine, and she had died a few years earlier but they were really close.  She says she thinks she was there with them for the only time of the day that they had to be outside with a "ray of sunshine" on her.

In one of the apartments I use to live in, there was a strange smell that lasted for two weeks. The only way to describe the scent would be that it smelled bad...Real bad.

Each day it got progressively worse and worse, yet no one knew where the smell originated from. A week and a half in, the smell was so unbearable that I had to light ten scented candles and install air fresheners in all the rooms just to keep from vomiting.

I and a few neighbors reported this problem to management a few times, yet no one understood where it was coming from or what it was.

A few days later, I had a  knock on my door from the neighbor downstairs, he was frantic, crying, and speaking in hysterical gibberish. Eventually I calmed him down slightly just to hear something coherent out of his mouth, and he kept repeating, "She did it! She did it! Jennifer finally did it!"

A few minutes later, the police arrived and came to my apartment to question the hysterical neighbor. It took me a few minutes to finally realize that his girlfriend named Jennifer committed suicide in his apartment when he was gone for a month or two on business. She hung herself, and apparently the atrocious smell was her body decomposing and  her waste products that flowed out her orifices when her muscles relaxed after death.

I found out later that she had a major drug problem, in particular with Meth. I guess that was her only way out of the pain and addiction, but I don't know what prompted it.

It was quite traumatizing for everyone who lived in the building at the time. I had to stay in that apartment for a few more months before my lease was up; I believe i'll never truly get over that experience and I especially won't forget that smell. Kind of makes that Lynard Skynard  song That Smell not very admirable.

fortius..that would be very traumatic..i couldn't imagine having something like that happen.  very sad that no one was looking for her for that time until he found her.

Fortius, that is horrible.

Okay, I want to start of by stating that I don't actually believe in "ghosts."

So this had to be...3 or 4 Halloweens ago. Yes, Halloween...how stereotypical.
Me and my mom were driving home at night, and we were pretty close to our house. I live out in the boonies, but there are some houses. There's also this old doctor's office I used to go to. It doesn't really look like a doctor's office though, more like a house.

At the point we were driving by the doctor's office, I saw a young boy, African American, standing in the middle of the road. It appeared he was looking for something. I yelled to my mom to slow down, because I felt as if she was going to hit him. She replied with, "I know Jess, I see him."

So she slowed down, and then we both watched him run into a brick wall. Not over it...just sort of into it. We both became veryyy quiet at that point. I asked her if she saw what had happened, and she just replied with a yes.
Come to find out, that doctor's office was part of the underground railroad.

Again, I do NOT believe in ghosts.
I just thought that was kind of odd.

wow...i got chills from that one.

did he disappear after he ran into it???? i have chills... creepy..

Yep. the only way I can think of explaining it is he just sort of vanished into the wall. Once he came into contact with the brick wall...I couldn't see him. He just ran right into it.

It was weird because he looked like a deer in the headlights when my mom started slowing down. I thought he was frightened we were going to hit him. Then he just took off.

I believe in spirits and have a couple of stories to share -

My grandmother was very sick and in the hospital when I was born.  We were both in the same hospital but she was not allowed to see me.  She died 3 days after I was born. After my mom brought me home she was up with me in the middle of the night feeding me.  She was walking back into the nursery to put me back in bed and glanced up at a mirror facing her on the wall.  The reflection showed her mother, my grandmother, looking over her shoulder smiling down at me.  My mom put me in my crib turned around and she was gone.

My husbands' father passed away before we met.  While we were attending a wedding I was talking with my mother-in-law and felt someone tap me on the shoulder.  I turned around and no one was there.  I didn't say anything at the time to my mother-in-law.  A few months later my mother-in-law visited a friend who is also psychic.  She showed him a picture of the family.  He pointed to me and said tell her that was your husband that tapped her on the shoulder.

oh my.... I got chills from Jessica's story!

Wow...awesome...have I got a story for you guys...hold on because it's long, and it happend years ago...but it's 100% true, and I was there, and to this day still can't explained what happened.....give me a sec.

A girl I grew up with told me this story.

When her parents first got married they moved into the house that my friend grew up in.  On the first night of moving into the house my friend's mom had a dream that there were 3 little girls sitting on the railing of the porch in identical sundresses when the smallest girl fell off the railing.

The dream bothered my friend's mom enough to talk to her husband about it but not enough to pay any attention to it.

Fast forward 7 years.  My friend's older sister and my friend are sitting on the railing of their porch wearing matching sundresses that their mom had made and their mom was in the house 6 months pregnant, watching them when the dream came back to her.  She thought it was curious that the dream matched everything in real life except the baby falling off the railing.  It was only when a couple of hours later, she was in emergency after having a miscarriage of their 3rd little girl that the significance of the dream hit home.

I don't know if it's real... but weird enough for halloween?

The year was 1989 and Hurricane Hugo had just hit us in the Caribbean, and I was only 9 years old, and I forget how old my cousin was, but she was a small child, but she could speak well… so I say around 3and a half years old.  So it was the night after the Hurricane hit us and I was sleeping with my Aunt and her daughter Bianca in the house.  This house was built over an old slave field (from 1800’s) in Friars Hill Antigua in the West Indies. They never had any supernatural incidences until this night though.

As we were all sleeping Bianca woke up, and was smiling and laughing at absolutely nothing…but he laughter woke me up…so I just lay there, and watched her play with her fingers, and laugh at something that wasn’t there….in the Caribbean we usually sleep with nets around the bed, because of the mosquito’s.  So after about 10 minutes of her doing this I thought she was Looney like a Toon so I woke up her mother, and said “look at your child she’s nuts”.  So I said “Bianca what are you doing”?...she said “I’m playing with the bugs”.   Her mother said “What bugs…the mosquito’s”?...Bianca replied…”No mommy can’t you see all the tiny little rainbow colored bugs flying around the net…they follow my hand everywhere is goes”.  So we both looked at each other and laughed like she was nuts…lol, but she was in her own world, and her mother went back to sleep and told me to just keep an eye on her.  So I tried my hardest to look at the bugs she was seeing, but I couldn’t see anything.  So I opened the net, and I still saw nothing.  So I told her she was crazy, and she got upset, and said I can see a gazillion trillion little rainbow bugs flying, and they are so pretty.

At this point I was convinced that she had dipped into the liquor on the table or something, so I went to get some water with her.  She told me that the bugs will follow her if we go to the kitchen…so I said ok then let them follow.  As we got to the kitchen she started to get scared (no lights just candles and flashlights because of the hurricane), and said that the bugs were flying faster and faster, and they seemed bothered.  So I yelled at her and said there are no Fu#!^g bugs and sat her down on the chair, but just as I finished saying that she jumped off the chair, and grabbed my hand and told me to lean up against the wall and watch the counter. When I asked her why she said because the bugs told her to do it.  So I humored her, and watched as she placed a flashlight and some other objects on the counter.  The flashlight rose about two inches off the countertop, and started to spin really fast…when I say fast I mean like really really really fast…and I nearly **** my pants because I couldn’t believe what was happening so I picked her up and ran into the room to my aunt, and woke her up to see what was going on.  When we got back to the kitchen everything that was on every counter….the sugar….. the forks……. the dishes in the sink…… the jelly jar….. the table mats…were all levitating 2 inches above their surfaces.  My Aunt stood there like a tree, and Bianca said that the bugs can pick things up and even play with them.  We all ran back to the room, and she closed the door, and we just sat there till morning inside the net staring at the door.  It was only a few hours till day anyways, but everything was perfectly normal when we went out and Bianca was the only one who could sleep.  When she woke up we asked her to explain what happened in detail…she said she didn’t know what we were talking about.

Nobody believed us at all, and thought we were trying to scare everyone, but we know what we saw, and I know what it feels like to want to pee your pants from fear of something you can’t see.  I’m still shaking after that crap….

awesome story eddie -- that would freak me out too!

The thing is...the Hurricane took our roof off...which is normal in the Caribbean during a hurricane, and she tried to blame what happened on the wind, but we both knew that there was absolutely no wind AT ALL that night, and the house was covered just in-case it rained again....

i got chills from that story too...very scary.  I always think I could handle it if I saw something like a ghost when I was with people in the daytime, but if it were night time and I was alone and something like that happened, no way..I couldn't handle it.

Another story I have that is a little longer is another of my mom (she's seen about 3 ghosts..hopefully that doesn't run in the family):

She was young and either still dating or just married to my dad..they were visiting her sister and brother-in-law at their big country home (barn, big fields, pool, etc).  She was swimming alone in the pool next to the house and she kept hearing her sister yell "walter" (my dad) from in the house.  She kept yelling back that he was in the field with Dale (brother-in-law).  She heard it enough that she got fed up and went inside to tell her sister that he was out in the field but she couldn't find anyone in the house.  She got dressed and kept looking around for her sister and finally found her in the back of the barn hosing down her horses.  She asked her why she needed walter and my aunt said 'i wasn't calling him'.  She said she was in the barn the whole time.

Nothing creepy happened after that but my mom says she held my dad really close that night.

(sorry for the long story)

I know, people are going to say 'Ouija boards aren't real' and all that jazz, but after possibly the scariest few weeks of my LIFE, I’m not so sure I’m ready to accept that.

A few years ago when I was staying over at a friend's apartment, he decided that it would be a fantastic idea to play with an old Ouija board he had in the game closet. But since he knew that someone would probably pull that disk thing to spell out creepy answers, we would each try it out on our own. He gave it a shot and contacted a small ghost, nothing big, but we still got a little creeped out. And then it was my turn. Fast forward a few minutes of boredom and nothing happening, I ended up ‘contacting’ someone named ‘John’. I asked it how they died and it said he didn’t. I asked him what year it was born and it said ‘Never’.  At this point, my friend told me to knock that –expletive- off because it wasn’t funny. After convincing my friend that I wasn’t doing anything, the little disk thing flew out of my hand and landed clear across the room, knocking about 2 picture frames from the wall without even touching them. At this point, we decided to just try and put away the game and pretend that didn’t happen.

Not a few minutes later when I got up to get a drink of water, the glass I had in my hand shattered and gashed open my palm. That night we saw weird stuff in the shadows of the rooms, my friend said he swore he saw his cat hanging from the bathroom door pulled inside out. I kept hearing babies crying hysterically when I was trying to sleep. By around 3 am we decided to just leave the apartment and crash at my house for a while. But the weird crap still was happening. Next morning the calf one of my cows had a few days before just dropped dead for no reason, as did about half of my family’s chickens, where the rest of the poultry ended up getting sick and eventually dying from disease the vet couldn’t identify. My friend said he had relatively few problems back at his apartment, save for trying to replace what had been broken and a few bumps and noises in the night, but it seemed like we had accidentally taken this thing back to MY house.

Even after the night had ended, the thing that harassed us before was going after my family’s food supply and my family themselves. My Pops said that he had been pushed down the stairs to the basement and had to get three stitches in his forehead and LUCKILY didn’t break his neck, my mom said that she kept seeing and hearing things that weren’t there (she told me once she saw a mutilated dog limping around and acting rabid through the kitchen window and the next second it was gone). I hadn’t told my parents about the Ouija board, but after all of this mess happened, I finally came clean. After a few colorful words from Pops, We ended up having to look for a priest that would do an exorcism (which is much, much, MUCH harder to find that one would think). After about 6 long days of praying, blessing and general Hell, peace came through. We still have problems now and again, but nothing that affected us as badly as ‘John’ did.

All I can say is that I will never play with Ouija boards again.
