Gift for my sister starting university next year..

Quote  |  Reply

My sister is graduating from high school tonight so I wanted to get her a grad gift.  I went to university and lived in residense like she is going to do next year, so I was trying to get her a few things that are nice to have in residense.  I ended up just getting her a University of New Brunswick hoodie from the bookstore, a new pair of super comfortable jeans, and a cute pair of pajama pants.  When I was there I lived in these items, but its all I can think of! Does anybody have any unique ideas?

What about framing a nice picture of you and her and she can put it in her dorm room.  It would be a gift that comes from the heart, those really are the best kind!

I got this from a relative for my highschool graduation. It has a lot of great information in it, and might be something interesting for her. :)

The College Woman's Handbook

Posters are a great gift too if she doesn't have any :) A Dorm room feels a little like a cell block before you start covering those white walls!

Cool... a university I know about! UNB was my second choice for my bachlor's, but I got into my favoured school and went there instead.

Maybe a clipboard with the UNB logo, a pair of slippers to wear around the dorm, a coffee maker (Definitely comes in handy!), or some decorations for the place?
I know this sounds kinda lame, but what about getting her a gift card to whatever the local grocery store is?  Maybe include a little note with it that says, "This card is to be used for frivolous purchases only, such as 3AM junkfood runs and to satisfy PMS-related cravings."  :)  Or conversely, if she's a healthy eater, then she can use the card to buy fresh veggies and fruits and other foods she may not be able to get from the dining hall.  I remember being soooo happy when I had cash to spend on some "real" food and could eat something other than dining hall food or overpriced vending machine stuff.

Will she have access to cooking facilities in the dorm?  Something like a little kitchen "starter kit" that includes a saucepan, wooden spoon, measuring spoons and cups, etc. is always helpful, as is a set of silverware and a microwave safe bowl, plate, and coffee mug.

Oh I like this thread- my sister is graduating in November and off to study medicine next year... (we have a different education system in Switzerland than the States) she just turned 20 and I've been totally stumped with what I should get her. Never occured to me that stuff for her new "pad" would be a really cool gift...

My uni days seem so long ago;-)
