Gilad Shalit.
Did anyone here the news about this kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit who was captured right before the 2nd Lebanon war 2006 near the Gaza Strip by the Hamas (Political or Terrorist organization depending Who you are), anyways he's still in Gaza. There were discussions on "getting" Gilad Shalit back by releasing 30 Terrorist prisoners who are themselves in Israeli Prisons, for the sake of Gilad Shalit. I know its hard getting hold of captured soldiers especially for the trade off of numerous terrorists But Im kind of angry at the Israeli government for the case of the captured soldier, Ron Arad in 1981-1st Lebanon war, Who was sadly kind of forgotten for 22 years. Still Imprisoned in Lebanon, I just hope Hope HOPE they will bring him back-Gilad Shalit at least. Because last time they tried "getting Back" Ron Arad we trade about 1000 Terrorists with Lebanon and received the other stolen soldiers but never Ron Arad, He Still might be In Lebanon dead or Alive, Hopefully still alive.
What do you guys think about this situation? Should Israel trade in 30 Terrorists for Our soldier? Personally I think so. But maybe its because I have an "Israeli Connection". Anyways Post your opinions, Im interested.
The more you speak, the clearer it is how wrong you are.
America doesn't have terrorists?
So.. Oklahoma City, it didn't happen, right?
Seriously, honey, if you're going to live here, the least you can do is try to keep up with current events. Especially since you seem to think we should keep up with Israeli events.
America doesn't have the problem of terrorists.
So I guess 9/11 didn't happen, huh? It was all in our heads.
I think Israel acts ONLY it's own self-interest. Honestly, what country doesn't? And America does have terrorists. Like someone else said, maybe you should keep up with US events since you are living there and are, presumably, a US citizen.

Also... there it says they're "believed" to be dead and nothing official has been announced yet.
No, Hezbollah members claimed that 1 soldier will be alive--1 dead. We received 2 dead---true we wanted remains for proper burial but the claim was that 1 soldier would be alive.
Yes, Im aware of September 11. I meant to say that terrorist attacks aren't a daily event in America. And In Israel it is the mentality---In most of the middle east it is.
Let it drop. You're not changing anyones' opinions by ranting and raving...
This is what I believe in. Oh yes and Al Jazeera is not one sided? Are you kidding that is the most one-sided news that certainly doesn't show the true side of Israel. I see Al Jazeera all the time here in Israel, In arabic. And maybe you may think some of my views are inncorrect, but for sure not all of them. You have to live here to actually experience the truth of the situation---not simple.
In order to get a comprehensive view from the media, you have to read different news outlets, which you've already stated that you don't. You read Israeli news and that's it.
Of course they will claim we gave them only 8 bodies-----we gave them 200 or more precisely 199. These certainly are lies and deceits.
Really? Interesting. You said they only "claimed" that Israel returned 8 bodies and you say that Al Jazeera news is only one-sided... Here they say "nearly 200 bodies"
"The bodies of nearly 200 Lebanese and Palestinian fighters, returned as part of an exchange deal with Israel, are heading towards Beirut from southern Lebanon."
""The Israelis certainly lost that war, they did not get their prisoners back - not until now and they're getting them back dead. So more than 1,000 Lebanese civilians and more than 160 Israelis, most of them soldiers, all died for absolutely nothing and that's what [these] prisoner exchanges prove."
Point proven. This is an extremely unbiased article. They recognized the facts of the situation and the sentiments of both sides...

Interesting that you think Israel should do the trade, thebledx3. He's a soldier and willing to give his life for Israel, yes??
Wow, I am surprised and impressed. As an Israeli I searched here for Israel to see if there were any more Israelis and found this discussion. I don't have time now to read all comments (I'm at work) but will definitely come back.
I just have to say that I saw a couple of comments stating that "as a soldier he should be willing to give his life". Our soldiers are not voluntary soldiers. It is a must and a part of life, and there are plenty who would rather not go. I have at the moment I have 1 son on active duty, another one enlisting next week, and my oldest will be in the reserves on duty for the first half of August. We (most of us anyway) understand that we have to do this whether we want to or not, even if we're scared or don't agree with the politics. It is also our understanding that Israel does not desert it's soldiers, which is why we just gave back terrorists for what almost everyone knew were bodies. And, to whoever mentioned that they were not terrorists - maybe they should have heard the testimony of the wife who saw her husband and child brutally murdered a few feet from where she was hiding, squeezing her second child so tightly so he wouldn't cry that he also suffocated (anyone reading up on the holocaust will find similar stories). This murderer was just sent home to celebrations. Only an animal can bash a toddlers head in and kill it.
Sorry, I didn't mean to run on. We are just a basically peaceful people, wanting to live our lives in peace. I guess some of us can be quite passionate on the subject. My point here was that just because our kids (and they are 18 year-old kids) are soldiers, they are not all "willing" to die for Israel (although most of them probably are).
Shalom
That seems contradictory to the actions employed by your government and military, eh?
You're american, right? So, you agree with all the actions emplyed by the US government and military? Based on your other posts, I'll make the assumption that you didn't mean this the way it sounded. It's obvious that the OP is extremely biased and it's a losing battle to engage in....but Shalom is not the OP.
I found Shalom's post very informative, showing a mostly unbiased viewpoint from an Israeli.
I agree with Debbie, I even brought out a link from Yair Lapid on the soldier/ terrorist situation.....#251
Israel drafts soldiers---Israel holds responsibility for the soldiers, even if it goes to the limit of association of Terrorists--noit "terrorists" as some individuals stated.
