Not too sure about the nutritional info, so I searched around the net and there wasn't too much out there. It seems like 1/6 of a small pizza is between 470 and 550 calories a slice, depending on the toppings.
Hey there, im not sure about giordano's, but i would imagine Gino's East is quite similar calorie-wise.  One peice of Gino's deep dish cheese is 410 cals.  A peice of pepperoni deep dish is 450.  Hope this helps!
I agree with Shanlu.  Are you getting the deep dish?  If not, ask them to cut it into pie slices because most pizza here on CC is based on pie sliced pizza.  Since you can't weigh it at the restaurant it's harder to tell how many square pieces would make one serving according to CC.  I usually weigh anywhere from 3-4 squares is comparable (weight-wise) to what's listed here in one pie slice.

As an FYI, Home Run Inn (also a famous Chicago pizza place) does have nutritional info in their "frozen pizza" section of their website.  Their frozen are VERY close to their restaurant pizza.  They're not interchangeable with Giordano's though because HRI uses wheat crust.  I never knew that until I looked it up one day but I actually prefer HRI's crust over Giordano's...always did, ever since I was kid.  Both are great pizza places though...ENJOY!!!
i didn't get the deepdish, but i did eat 2 pieces (square) of just the cheese, mmm was it good :)

thank you all so much for the responses, i will keep them in mind for the next time i go! :D
Giordano's has got to be the sickest pizza ever.  It's so gross I feel like throwing up just thinking about it.  I went there once and we had the deep dish and the cheese (which looked fake) was just pouring out the sides like liquid.  I'm never going there again.  Lou Malnati's pizza is good.
I can assume this place is not in NY because NY pizza is no way like that!

Several years ago I took 2 guys from the south to Giordano's and we stuffed ourselves.....one of them remarked, "dunno if I can eat anymore, this is going to swell on me".  So true.  If regular pizza is 200 calories per small slice, Giordano's deep dish has to run at least double that, and I'd expect a big slice of sausage would run 500-600 calories.
Just looked at their menu online, and they do have other choices like sandwiches, salads, pastas, and thin crust pizza.   Modify them the way you want to get a healthier meal.

You don't have to get deep dish just because it's Giordano's....
Next time I am in Chicago I will check out this Lou Malnati's...Until now, Giordano's is the Best Pizza I have ever had...
I don't go to a pizza place to eat a sandwich, pasta, or a salad.
Wow, cheese oozing out of the sides...yeah, I'd complain about that too....NOT, I so love cheese (unfortunately) the more the better...which is why I stick to light cheese and lots of veggies, need to substitute for flavor (missing cheese)
Mts, if you don't like deep dish why didn't you get a regular pizza?  Giordano's regular pizza is also very good.  I've never heard of Lou Malnati's pizza.  IMO, the best in Chicago are:

  • Home Run Inn
  • Connie's
  • Giordano's
From a Chicago native, born and raised.

PS-nygiantsfan56, pizza IS a Chicago thing which is why NY wouldn't have it.  ;)
I like Giordanos OK, and I like Connies, but I love Pal Joey's pizza. They're out in West Chicago, but wow! It's so worth the trip! When I went to Loyola there was a Carmen's pizza near the campus. Positively sinful!

Lately I've also discovered a local pizza joint called Salernos which is pretty good also, though they don't do deep dish or stuffed. They have a very tasty hand-tossed crust though.
Chicago born and raised and haven't heard of Lou Malnati's??  Very very strange.  You can go to their website.

Oh, and no one mentioned Uno's pizza (Chicago, but I'm pretty sure they're all over) but I don't really go there.
Uno's are all over the place.  I love Uno's pizza.   However, looking at Uno's nutritional info one night was an enlightening experience.  I can't conceive of going there more than once a year for their 1700 calorie per serving pizza.

Well, if you're not going for deep dish, forget Giordano's Gino's et. al. and go for Pequod's in Lincoln Park.  Just a note for out of towners!

Back to the top again....

Lou Malnati's takeout spinach and cheese pizza for dinner tonight.  Their pizza is claimed to be lighter than Giordano's, reputedly 300 calories for 1/6 of a small cheese deep dish, or about half the calores of 1/6 of a Giordano's small cheese stuffed.

To be dressed up with some fresh basil, sliced roma tomato, a few bacon crumbles and a side salad before eating.

I could be into this for a couple of pieces if it's any good....

So I googled it and a Cheese Stuffed Pizza - 7 ounces is roughly 550 calories & 25 grams of fat! The Spinach Stuffed Pizza at 7 ounces is roughly 500 calories & 19 grams of fat...

Perhaps you can order a nice large salad and cut a piece of pizza in 1/2 so you only get 1/2 that amount of calories... I mean at least you get the pizza but just not as big... and fill the "rest" with a nice salad (free of dressing, croutons & cheese).

It was a good one, and it didn't swell on me this AM.....

Total pizza weight was 24 oz, so I quartered it and counted a piece as 420 calories, and will eat the leftover quarters for lunches.  It would've been bland without the home toppings. Compared to a Giordano's stuffed pizza this one is scant on toppings, especially cheese. The best part is Malnati's butter crust - not too bready, not too crispy - like a well-baked butterflake roll.  Hope it doesn't get spongy reheating in the microwave.
