...does anyone else have indentations on your shoulders due to wearing your bra strap in the same spot for years? And if so, is it possible to get rid of them with weight lifting?

Mine aren't as bad as they used to be but I'm wondering if they will ever go away completely. I started wearing a sports bra during workouts and walking and the sports bra distributes the weight in a different spot. I wish I had known they made bras like this years earlier. It might have made a difference. I'm just also wondering about how weight lifting might help. I started working out with weights about a month ago.

Anyone out there? Surely someone else has dealth with this problem or am I the only one it bothers?

Hi Beth, I have a sneaking suspicion that it's all going to depend on, well, basically, how much you have left there after you lose all the weight you want to lose.  I'm afraid I lost a lot of fat there too (and my husband is smart enough to not complain), and the indentations have gone away.  I think if you still are bothered by this once you've gotten to your goal weight that looking for different bras might be the way to go.  Nothing better than a good fitting bra.

Maybe you're just tightening the straps too much? I don't know, just a suggestion...

I am rather top heavy myself and was told, when I was much younger, that if you do not where a proper fitting bra it will cause the indentations.  Your bra should find most of it's support around the chest not in the shoulders.  You can be sized for a bra at somewhere like Dillards for free.  You may be surprised what you learn.  As for it being caused from weight I never had that problem even at 280lbs.  so I don't have any advice to give ya there.

Yes, it's probably from ill fitting bras.  I'm betting your band size is wrong.  Most of your support should come from the band, not the straps.   Get yourself fitted at any decent department store.  It will make all the difference in the world.

Just noticed your post about bras, so i will give you my 2cents worth, i too have those indents and have noticed them more since my shoulder problem, oddly i wear sports bras, now that we both have lost weight and some there i don't see how we can change this, unless you build up that neck area with triapezius exercises Beth.  Check that site i posted for those.  Do you need the web address? I was a 38B now back to my 36B  Speaking of webs thought it was free, isn't only the name was so back to the drawing board, well i didn't really need one i just thought it would have been fun to build one.  Take care there are a few online tonight...that iraq war soldier movie is on again. Stop-loss!!

I think the "current wisdom" about bras is b.s., personally, because nothing is more uncomfortable than bras that get all their support from the band. On the other hand, try to find a bra with good support built throughout it anymore; it's almost impossible (except for in the humongous sizes; they are not counting on the band alone to fight gravity, which should tell you something right there!)

I'm old enough to remember when daily-wear bras were for support, and there was not this advertising-driven assumption that ALL bras should be sexy. In those days, your daily bra was good enough to wear AS a sports bra; those babies were built for support!

Sorry to ramble on this, but it's one of my pet peeves. As for the indents, I've never had them so I can't help; sorry about that, too!
