Girls: How Much Do You Eat at Dinner?
My general "rule of thumb" is around 300 for breakfast, 500 for lunch and 700 for dinner.
More or less, depending on the meal/occasion/whatever.
I know lots of people eat medium breakfasts, big lunches and light dinners because of metabolism reasons.
But I grew up with meals getting progressively larger throughout the day, so I still eat that way.
So anyway; my question is what do you girls normally have for dinner? My mom would always prepare a vegetable, a grain and a protein for every dinner. She's old-fashioned.
Like I said, I get about 700 calories at dinner and I go on a walk the hour before I start to prepare my dinner; I've read that pre-meal physical activity aids in digestion. I, like my mother, eat a big helping of veggies, a protein (normally fish or soy protein) and a grain; potatoes count here.
Typicaly Day:
Breakfast: [8AM] Orange Juice [I cant stomach food/dont have enough time.]
Snack: [11AM] Apple
Lunch: [1PM] Baked Potato With Cheese
Snack: [4pm] 1/2 A Peanut Butter/Jelly Sarnie
Dinner: [7pm] Veggie Stir Fry
Snack: [10pm] Cereal
So mines more same size meals throughout the day.
Well, my breakfasts vary very much, from 120 to 400 cals. If Im not going to have lunch at school, then I eat muchmuchmuch, but if I will, then breakfast's usually just a bowl of cereal. Im not that much of a breakfast eater.
So, some days I skip school lunch. Yes, I know what you're thinking now, but please dont bother giving me a lecture. But if I do eat, it's anywhere from 80-350 cals. My after school snack is usually around 200 cals.
I more like eat snacks throughout the day, I dont usually eat big dinners. If I do, it's 200-500 cals. Before bed snack is 90-250 cals.
My daily totals vary, too, from 1200 to 1600.
Hmm well I upped my cals/day to 1600. Now it goes soemthing liek 500 for breakfast 400-500 for lunch, and whatevers left for dinner. I never actually like to hit the number 1600 though so i usually go to 1580 (retarded I know). My lunch is actually spread over many hours though because I'm in school and break it up over a few classes & my actual lunch. But I don't want to not eat enough during the day because I have XC pratice at 3 ish. Which sucks because my favorite time to eat is at home, alone. (for disordered reasons) and by the time I get to I feel restricted in how much I can eat.
I've noticed that on school days (I get home at 5:45/6) The time i wish I could eat a ton of ice cream and junk is from 6-9pm after that the craving kind of goes away and i'm like eh.. sleep <3.
i am a total night eater and take after my mom in eating a lighter lunch and breakfast with a big dinner.
breakfast=about 300-400 cals. usually multigrain cheerios with skim milk/cottage cheese and some fruit
lunch=again 300-400 cals. usually its yogurt or cottage cheese with a luna bar or kashi bar and some fruit
snack=200 cals. usually some dry cereal, cottage cheese (yes i eat loads of cottage cheese lol), or a bar, and some fruit.
dinner=400-500 cals. i love savory oatmeal with marinara sauce. or soup and lavash bread. also sweet potatos are basically life so i eat those a lot too.
evening {meal?}=usually 400-500 cals of cottage cheese with pb and fruit. or some cereal or granola bars.
total=about 1800
i love eating my night meal b.c i have calories left over to eat pretty much whatever i want and i dont feel like im depriving myself. i also eat tonsss of fruit and yogurt/cottage cheese. i <3 eating healthily.
I usually am not very hungry during the day...something about being at school is stressful for me, and I just don't work up much of an appetite. :P Plus I like eating the majority of my calories at night because I don't worry about not having enough left over at the end of the day. Usually my day will end up like this:
Breakfast: 100-150 calories
Lunch: 300-400 calories spread out over several periods
Rest of the day: 1,000-1,500 calories, basically snacking whenever I feel hungry
I don't know whether this is healthy or not, but it's just the way my body works. I always exercise in the evening as well, so I end up needing extra calories after that. :)
I try to limit myself to 500 calories before dinner, which leaves me enough calories to eat a full dinner with my family at night, plus something for dessert. I can't go to bed feeling deprived.
I don't eat breakfast except maybe pretzels/some cookies because I'm always late ^^;;; I usually eat around 250-500 for meals though. Then with my remaining calories.. I snack out! I really shouldn't. I should stop buying snacks! darn!
at school, i usually have about 300-500 for breakfast, a 50-150 kcal snack around 10, 300-500 lunch, another 100-150 kcal snack after classes, 500 for dinner, and 200 while doing homework. so, similarly sized meals through the day =]
Wow, my meal plan's kinda different from everyone else's.
Breakfast is my smallest meal, usually about 200-300. Lunch is bigger, maybe double that at 400-600. Dinner is like double lunch. haha. I burn a lot in swim practice, so I tend to eat at 2000+. Swim practice for me is 5x a week for 3 hours, one hour out of the pool running or other exercises and 2 hours in the pool.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that seems like so little food to me...i'm 5'4 110pounds...but i run everday.....i eat my highest caloric intake at breafast since that is when your metabolism is getting it's jump start...usually i start with a bowl of allbran, milk, a banana, and some protein (Eggs, flaxseed etc) usually around 600 calories...and a bottle of water....for lunch i generally eat around 450-500 calories.....and then for dinner usually about 500 calories....i don't eat any non complex carbohydrates after i go running in the afternoon since your metabolsim gets slower and you won't burn them off later in the day. i also usually have about 200 calories for snacks one after dinner (usaully fruit or yogurt)
my intake is 2800-3000calories... sometimes 3500calories.. i have breakfast, midmorning tea, lunch, afternoontea, dinner, supper and snacks... everymeal ends with cake or icecreams as desserts... yummy huh??? haha...
I guess my dinners are about 300-500 calories. It all depends what I've had for my snacks for the day.
I arrange my 'feed-times' the way that my granparents would plan out their day:
breakfast - used to be cereal and a piece of fruit, now its usually ground rice/gluten free porridge and a banana.
11s's - coffee time with a biscuit and piece of fruit.
lunch - a salad with some kind of cold fish, or soup.
4s's - coffee/tea time and another kind of snack, like a toast or fruit.
dinner - well, this could be anything, my diet has always been very varied.
supper - when we were younger we always got a snack before bed which was usually cereal or toast. These days it's when I just have some sort of snack in front of the tv or computer.
I never have these snack urges because I have 6 small meals. Keeps my energy up all through uni and the gym. I suppose I eat between 1600-2000 cals a day.
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
