girls 5'5" at a healthy weight?
i'm 5'5" and am underweight. i know how much i weigh and what i want to weigh (more or less), and completely understand that everyone is different. but i still want to ask: if you are medically at a healthy weight, what size do you wear, what is your weight, and are you happy with this? just curious, and looking for some reassurance in weight-gaining. thanks!
I'm 5'5" and weigh between 115-120 (my two scales are very different but I trust the latter a little more). As far as sizes, I've fit into a size one but a 3 is more comfortable. As for shirts, a small or medium (not sure as far as number size).
I'm happy with my weight, per se, but I am doing fitness just to tone my body. So... yeah. Good luck!
115lbs s ounds low.
id suggest at least 125, where r u now? what were u before being underweight? 125 and up sounds good, really, its a RANGE, remember that, were all different.
My lowest weight was.... very low. Haha! Now I'm around 128 pounds and a size 1-3 in [juniors'] jeans. For the most part, I'm happy with the way I look, aside from a little extra tummy jiggle that doesn't worry me much. 115 may be low for some, but I think it depends on your frame size.. It's a healthy weight, but at 115 I still looked reallyyy unhealthily skeeeny [mostly 'cause all the weight was in my ass and my arms were still skeletal lmao]. I wouldn't recommend going under 110!
thanks!
yeah, i TOTALLY understand that it's a range, and i tried to make that clear. i just want different opinions.
before i weighed ~145 lbs, and was a size 9. i'm don't let this get in my way of gaining weight, but sometimes i do worry that i'm going to have to end up like that again. it wasn't terrible and i'd rather be there than underweight, but i just want reassurance that i'm not necessarilly going to have to get out those old jeans again. i was hoping maybe a 3 or something....
Of course luv! That's a valid worry. Based on personal experiences, I can tell you that doesn't have to happen! I too was around 145-150 pre-ED, but as long as you follow your recovery plan and don't fall back into old ways [that is, eating at an ED level OR eating as much as you did when you were 145.. assuming you ate unhealthily, because I certainly did lol] your body should settle nicely on a healthy weight. So no, you're not necessarily going to have to get those jeans out again :p
I'm around 115-117. I hit 119-120 because of ttom.
On a regular basis I wear a size 1 or 3, depending on the make, mostly 1... but on ttom I wear a 3. I wear a s or xs in shirts.
I'm not happy with my weight though. I feel I need to lose about 7 more lbs. I have a very small frame. For example, my sister is 5'4", and she weighs 105 but looks very healthy. Everyone is different though.
But otherwise 115-117 is good. I don't feel bad if I maintain around here. :)
i seem to disagree, i think 145 at 5'5 is fine.
eat a balanced diet, be moderately active, ur a teen? i dont know where u live or the weather but walk when u can, maybe join a school sport, teens r pretty active. 115 is deff too low.
weight is a #, RENEWED, if ur not happy now, ur not going to be happy 7lbs lighter, and then at an unhealthy weight for ur body.
Like I said...I have a pretty small body frame. I don't feel totally comfortable right now. Everyone is different. What is considered unhealthy for some is still healthy for others.
Wow- I guess I just hold my weight poorly. I think I actually have a medium to large frame. It's pretty funny how my stomach gets shaped because I have a pretty wide rib cage (I think).
I put on a pair of 1-2 shorts today. They button well enough but I have a bit of a muffin top and they poke into my hips...
I'm sorry (I don't mean any offense by that), I must be WAY OUT. I see girls (many my age, even!) who are the same height (some have an inch or two on me) and they all want to be 100, 110. This is very ideal for someone 5'3" or under, but when you're 5'5" and up, it's not what you want.
I'm 5'5", size 7 (though I do fit into 9, I don't buy them mostly), buy all L shirts, and always fluctuating between 138 and 140 (trying to get it to 130) lbs. Doctors have told me I don't need to see a nutritionist as I'm already in the healthy range, but I try to jog, bike, and walk at least three days a week anyway.
no, 100 or 110 is NOT ideal for 5'3
Well if you go by the rule of thumb...100 pounds for the first 5 feet and 5 pounds for each additional inch then 125 pounds is ideal for someone 5'5.
That being said, someone recovering from an ED should shoot for a BMI of 20 at the bare minimum, which is 118 at the least. So, i would make 118 your minimum goal weight and 125 would still be slim/slender. Everyone is different though and rest assured that you will be okay when you get to your goal weight.
ive heard that the lbs for each inch is an old wives tail, go for a healthy weight, mid bmi range, for health purposes and the ability to have a flexable, less rigid life.
I specifically stated 5'3" and UNDER, meaning more likely, it'd be people 4'11" to 5'1". 5'3" would be MAX. I know plenty who are healthy at 110 or 120 at 5'3".
But yeah, rule of thumb I also don't find accurate. In that case, everyone 5'0" should be 100 (maybe 105 if you want to stretch it) at the most. You could only be 120 on 5'4". I've seen 140 on 5'3" or 160 on 5'5", 98 lbs on 4'11", 115 on 5'7", and they still manage to pull it off. My sister is 5'2" and 120 but you would never know; most people think she's about 90. It all depends on how you're proportioned and body type, etc, etc — all of the BMI and "pounds for inches" isn't always correct, just guidelines for people. (See here: http://caloriecount.about.com/happy-weight-gi rl-ft153943)
If I were 5'3" and under, I would try to keep it 130 or under, but as has been mentioned and I've said, who knows. Because I'm 5'5" right now, I definitely will try not to go over 150. I think the most optimistic weight for someone 5'5" would be between 125 and 140 (most charts also say something like 127 to 145, so I'm about right).
Wow, so many numbers.
Well the clinical range for a healthy weight for someone 5'5 is 120-150...which is a BMI of roughly 20-25. So there you have it...it's a huge range but depending on your frame size, metabolism, body fat...you could look quite fit and thin at any weight...or perhaps too thin at 120 if your frame is larger.
I don't necessarily completely agree with the height/inches weight thing either...Its a very ROUGH guideline...and I didn't pull it out of the air...
here is an excerpt from the sport's nutrition handbook. it's just used as an estimate.
I'm 5'5", when I was an older teen I weighed 115, and my pants size was 3, with a 5 shorts/skirt size. My shirts were almost always small to medium, but seeing as how different designers have different sizes, I would just pick up two or three sizes of the same item to try on and buy the one that fit me best. If the size tag on your clothes bother you, cut them off.
I agree with PPs, everyone is different. I was by no means unhealthy. I wasn't soft, I was toned. After I had my daughter I weighed around 145 for a while, and I wasn't happy with my love handles and back fat.
On the other hand, my sister, at 5'2", looked stunning at 145 lbs. She's built completely different than I am.
I'm between 108-113, wear a size zero in misses and a one or three in junior's. I'm not happy with my weight right now because my curves are all gone and I don't look all that healthy ):
Tbh, I think I looked much better when I was ~125 and wore a size 5 in junior's, 2 in misses. I'm trying to get back up there!
Cicatrize, if that is you in the pic, you look really good and carry your weight well. Me on the other hand weighs lighter than you, but I look heavier. You look very slim. I have a very small frame, so anything I gain looks huge on me. The only thing that looks wide on me is my waist and that is because I have scoliosis and my ribs stick out. LOL :P
P.S., I really need more muscle!
when i was still at a healthy weight i used to weight 123 lbs. now i screwed up because of an eating disorder and went from underweight to a bit more than my old weight. However i feel really healthry right now and aiming back for that 123 lbs by just trying to eat as clean as possible!
i weight 55kgs at 5,5 not sure what that is in pounds but it is healthy for me and that's all that matters
