Do girls like traveling?
Read on since I know it seems like quite an idiotic question but it was a basis on a discussion I was having yesterday with a friend. The conversation began on the basis that my one earthly passion (above all others) is to travel. So now having recently come out of a relationship and with the newfound freedom to exploit my own desires, im in the process to begin studying gastronomy with the ideal of traveling to every country possible in the aftermath and become a culinary anthropologist of sort.
Then came the question... "hey. dont you ever want to find a wife; settle down and eventually have children?". To which I answered that of course I cannot say for certain what I will or will not do in the future... it would be lovely to find someone (who besides falling in love), would also be someone who loves traveling. My friend of course faithfully taking the other side in the argument responded by saying that girls do not like to travel. Its hard enough to get them to change houses (we are speaking about Chile here and about 80% of the population lives in the capital.. so its not even that big a change) and much less likely that she would constantly enjoy switching countries, cultures, friends, languages, traditions, etc. To which he continued by saying that men have much more of that nomadic instinct than women do.
So now my question is. Do you (women) like to travel.. or would like to travel constantly or would you rather be more centered and feel more comfortable in your cosy home base? Again.. I dont mean going on vacation. I mean full fledged, 2-4 years in some foregin country in which you may have to learn a new language, make new friends of course, get aquainted with different customs, etc... and afterwards travel again somewhere else repeating all those previous steps.
yes.
Nope, women are hardwired to just want to cook / clean / have babies....
....sure women like to travel! :P They come in a diverse rainbow of flavors just like men o.O
i hate to break it to you, lorik, but think you're becoming a reasonable human being. this is the second post i've read in which you weren't completely biased and provocative.
where are we going?
can I come ;O)

you sure you arent just getting used to me? <3
I would love to travel. In fact, I'm losing weight to join the military in hopes that they'll station me in another country.
As far as having a family with that lifestyle, I'm sure you could find a wife to travel with you, but moving around that often can be really rough on children.
Good luck with your "culinary anthropology." I'm actually pretty interested in anthropology. Are you planning to actual anthropological fieldwork, or is this more of just a personal curiosity sort of thing?
I love to travel. Planning on moving to Japan for a year, then another (as of yet undecided) country for a year after before I have to settle down for a doctorate program.
I've also dated/met guys who hate travelling, I don't think gender has anything to do with it : )

I envy you. I wish I could afford to move to/live in Japan. That's probably the one place in the world I most want to see.
Well, I do have to secure a job first : ) I'm by no means wealthy enough to just up and move. But I have an interview in chicago for a position in japan july 6th!!
Crossing my fingers.

I adore traveling, but I can`t see myself doing it forever either. Having a home to miss is a nice feeling. :]
I hate traveling... other than finding new places to eat (like going to the coast for good seafood!).
well, this woman likes to travel. it wouldn't be forever - and i've always told anyone who will listen that someday i want to spend an extended period in a spanish-speaking country to be completely immersed in the language/culture and seriously learn it! (through necessity, if nothing else).
besides, in those 2-4 years in a foreign country, you have time to make a temporary cozy home base.
having said that, i'm sure there are people - guys and girls - who would rather remain domesticated and refrain from traveling - know that, and if you are looking to find yourself someone who will match your love of travel as a companion, drift more toward those souls :)
Definitely, one of my major goals in life is to travel and just absorb all the sensory detail and cultural diversion I possibly can! I get restless easily in one spot (I've been living in the same small town for years so I'm going crazy).
definately travel the world. I have raised my family and am looking forward to a trip to Europe for my 50th birthday, plan on going for at least a year. Who knows, I may become an ex pat.
Wow. I am a woman and I've gotten the same quesitons about my lifestyle. I travel, a lot. I actually haven't really had much of a permanent address for 4 years. When I do come home to visit, my great grandmother asks me, "How are you going to find a husband if you keep moving?". Really, I don't really want one. My friends don't understand it, because they're all getting married and buying houses, having babies, planning retirement. I'm 27! I figure, if that's something I eventually do want, it'll be there later.
I think you'll find that you meet a lot of people whilst traveling. And you'll meet the kind of people you can relate to, and if you want, therefore a girl who shares your passion.
Side note: culinary anthropologist = AWESOME. I studied anthro in university and along with travel is one of my favourite things as well.
Good luck on the travels!
Mmmmmmm, despite a few positive answers, it'd be very hard to find a woman who would want to do that (I think). Although, I WOULD LOVE IT! I'd consider myself very lucky to travel with you, experience all the different cultures and customs, learn different languages, meet different people, and experience so much different food and scenery! I really don't like how many people just travel down to a beach in a warmer country and spend their entire time in hotel or tourist land.. They don't really get to experience the country.
Hmm, but back to your friend, he is right about most women. Why? Maybe it is a hardwired nature, the neccesity of having comfort and familiarity in a single home, being close to their family and friends, and perhaps they would also think about the future children's situation.
um....yeah women like to travel. When you find the woman who will stick her life in a backpack for a few years you will have found the right one.
But dont wait for her. Do your own thing. If you want a woman who likes to travel, chances are she is out there travelling instead of waiting for the right man to carry her duffle bag.
