Girls size 4-6 - please help with jeans sizing!!
I am finally going to break down and buy some jeans now, even before I reach my goal weight, since all my other size 12s are falling down. But, OMG! the sizing is so weird! I fit into size 4 jeans really nicely (when they are marked by size, not waist) but the problem is the length of the legs! If you go smaller in size, do the legs get shorter?? I do not in any way have long legs (I wish i did), but the size 4 and 6 jeans I tried on in a number of stores were just a little short. I bought a pair of 6 but I am going to have to return them since they are still a bit baggy, but I'm afraid that if I go to a size 4 they will be even shorter...
do you have any recommendations as to brand, etc. of jeans that will be longer in the leg and in the smaller sizes? I would love it if anyone knew of a jean style that would give a bit more of bum definition as well since I have a really non-existent butt and always have..
any help will be appreciated!
Thanks!
Sadly, my experience for jean shopping is similar to bra shopping--you have to try on a million pairs, you hate them all, but eventually you find one that doesn't make you cry (either metaphorically, or in my case, literally) and you buy those. Once you wear them a few times, you'll either come to love them dearly, or despise them with a passion. But then again, I'm extremely picky when it comes to clothes. Good luck in the search!
i feel your pain...i'm 5'9" and a size 4/6. i like gap jeans, which come in long and slender fits.
I am not a size 4 or 6 but I do have problems with pants being too short. I'm about 5'10" so my legs are relatively long I suppose. I've had many pairs of jeans of many different sizes, they really all do fit differently. I love Express, Gap, and American Eagle jeans. I'm pretty sure they all come in "long" lengths but I usually try on regular and long, depending on the cut of the jean one or the other will work. As for adding shape to your butt, look for jeans with back pockets with like a top flap if that makes sense. And avoid jeans with no pockets at all.
I hope this helps, but when it comes down to it you really just have to try on a bunch and find out what works best for you.
Try Seven for All Mankind, Citizen for Humanity, Rock and Republic or Paige. All come with waist sizes and super duper long legs (and great toosh definition). R&R are probably the longest. Not cheap though.
Try Jr sizes
I had good luck with Old Navy. I mention it because not everyone can affort 7s or the other fancy jeans nycgirl mentioned (which are fine jeans might I add). I'm 5'7" and the long sizes are awesome, not to mention inexpensive.
And like so many people have noticed, what is up with their sizing? I practically had to go to their infant department.
Try this website. It will ask you a series of questions and find the best brands for you.

I have to agree with spirochete. I love my 7's, and citizens but it breaks my heart, and my bank account to buy new pairs. Now I'm not tall, infact pretty much the opposite(5'2 yay!) But they fit extremely well in the waist, but and thighs and come in short/regular/and long.
I love Hudson jeans. The flap pocket makes my butt look like it is there. I have long legs and they have different lengths. I also like Taverniti So Janis jeans. Both are pricey though.
Thanks so miuch everyone!! I am going to try Old navy .
I'm not sure where i can get 7s or other kinds here in Calgary, but I'm going to look!
Thanks!!
You also might want to try Delia's, I'm not sure if they have them where you live, but if they do, they usually have a pretty wide range of sizes. I have the opposite problem you have, but I notice places that carry sizes for very petite girls usually carry them for longer legged girls as well. Good luck, I know how frustrating jeans shopping can be!
Old Navy is owned by the GAP, which also owns Banana Republic. So if you like ON but want something in higher quality, try GAP or BR.
GAP sells jeans in ankle, regular and tall lengths. (Ankle is a funny way to put it... but let's say on me, with my stubby 26" inseam, they are the perfect length.)
You might also try Ann Taylor Loft - they sell longer lengths online only. They have only a few styles of jeans each season, but their clothes are particularly good for women who don't have much in the way of hips. I.e., more of a junior cut. And less expensive than the parent store, Ann Taylor.
JCrew makes very nice jeans too, for narrower shapes, and I can vouch that the length is very long. They are pricey though. But if you try them on and like them, then wait for a sale online.
As for the no-butt issue, pay attention to the size and angle of the pocket. I don't have a butt either, and the bigger the pocket, the worse it makes my butt look - makes it look flat and droopy. So you want a jean with a slightly smaller, angled pocket, something scaled to your butt. Flaps work too but personally they drive me crazy because they inevitably flip out all funny.
And do try pocketless jeans, like a trouser cut jean. Pocketless jeans can do wonders, IME, although YMMV. I personally think pockets are designed to minimize a wider, bigger butt - it's an optical illusion, the extra lines interrupt the eye. Without pockets, there's no such distraction. Who knows, maybe you'll discover you actually DO have a nice butt... it's the pockets that were making it look non-existent? It's worth a try.
And try something like Marshall's or TJMAxx... take all the 4's and also hit the junior's section because you never know. I see 7's and all those other brands at places like that occasionally, drastically discounted. That's how I know they are all waaayyyyy to long on me, and something about them just doesn't work right with my figure!!
I'm surprised no said Ebay. I find that most everyone who lists clothes on ebay will list the actual measurements, so you can find the exact ones that will fit you. If they don't already list the measurements you can email them and ask. You can get brand new clothes there too if pre-owned bother's you.
levi's. you can get them in tall.
If you willing to spend the extra cash going to The Buckle is the best place. They match you with jeans that go with your length and the size of your waist!
I wear 27s and 34 long and I wear size 2-4
I have long legs, so I have a hard time finding jeans. I like Delia's or American Eagle for cheaper jeans, Sevens if you're willing to spend some money.
I definitely recommend Sevens. I wear a size 25 in them, and they fit perfectly all over, but they are a little long for me (I'm 5'3'' almost 5'4'') I just roll them up. It only sucks if you plan on losing more weight and then you have to buy another smaller pair! About 2 months ago I bought 2 pairs in size 27, and I don't know what to do with them now! I guess I could always use them on my fat days. :-D
I feel your pain nicolek6, I have a closet full of 29s, then 28s and now 27s as I am a new 26 (of which I only have one pair). It's awful. Some still have tags on. It's an issue, but hey, I lost weight so no complaints ;)
Try American Eagle...they have the true size in jeans. They also come in short, regular, long. I love them and they are always a perfect fit. Oprah swears by them.
Aeropostale and Old Navy fit really well. The 5/6 Long in Aero would probably be just about right and old navy 4 Long the same...
