Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

Hello Suzanne, I'm 27 and weigh 224lbs. I have 65lbs+ to lose and would love to join the team you have going here to exchange motivation!

Melissa Smile

Hi, everyone.  I'm Melanie.  I was just saying to my friend that I'm very discouraged with the forums around here.  I was almost ready to give up reading the posts, because sooooo many of the posters are on their way to anorexia/exercise bulimia (or already there), and I just don't really fit in or relate (though I'm sorry for them that they don't love their bodies).

Anyway, I'd love to keep up with you all (dalmalama, it's nice to bump into you here Smile).  So when I started on the 2nd I was 225, but yo-yo'ed from the mid 250's before joining.  I'm happy and a little shocked to say that I'm now down to 204.  Oh yes, and I'm nearly 27, 5"5', married, and have a 2 year old son.  I have been working very hard at not cheating myself.  When I do blow my daily intake, I fess up to it, log it, and try to make up for it the next day.  I also have 2 work out friends that come at different times of the day 5-6 times each week (I walk outside for about 45 mins., up and down hills with one, and spend about an hour on the treadmill and 10 mins. arm lifting with the other).  Exercising this much has been awesome for my muscles, but I have to eat a TON to keep less than 1000 deficient. Yell

So I'm in this for the long haul (61 pounds to go!).  Congratulations on everyone's success and determination thus far!  By the way, to those of you who have pics up, none of you look to be the weight you are.  Such pretty women!

Hi I'm 26 223.7 down from 233.7 on jan 1st. I'm 5'5 am have about 60 more pounds to lose.
Good Morning girls!

Well, I went for my second night at the YWCA! I did 20 minutes on the bike and 20 minutes on the stepper thing as well as 1 minute on the eliptical ( that thing is hard....and I give credit for anybody who can do it for more then 1 minute!! LOL)

My birthday is on the 9th and I am hopeig to be closer to 290...I am at 298 now, so we will see!

Hope everyone is having a good morning!

You are right about the eliptical I was on it yesterday for about ohhhhhh 3 minutes! I was near death and climbed off that thing!

Hi everyone!!!  I just joined this site last night & hope it will help me on my weight loss journey.  Here is some info about me:

I am 27 yo and am a mommy to 1 - 17m old little boy who is into everything.  I joined a gym 3 weeks ago and drasticially changed the way I eat.  I am not on a radical diet, just watching what I eat.  I started at 281 lbs on Jan 7th...I am now down to 265 as of yesterday the 28th.  So, 16 lbs down...a LOT MORE TO GO.

Wow. You ladies inspire me! You work hard, you're honest and truthful and you're doing so well! Good for you all!

morning ladies!!!

i'm glad we have some new joiners to our forum!!

i know what you guys mean about the elliptical. but don't give up! start slow, start on the LOWEST setting, and just work your way up time-wise. i could only do about 5-10 mins when i started, but now i can do 60 minutes at a stretch. i'm still on the lowest setting, but 60 mins at low is better than 5 minutes at 10, you know?

for those of you at the Y, do they have this machine that looks almost like an elliptical, but it doesn't go in a circle, just up and down, and it REALLY works your thighs? my Y has that, and i think after the stepper, it's the hardest machine i've ever used. i love it!!

Hi everyone!  I'm in the same boat!

I'm 26 years old and currently weigh about 227.  I'd like to weigh about 140-150.  I've lost about 10 pounds since January 1st but am currently in a mini (hopefully!) plateu - no loss for the past 5 days =/

It sounds like everyone has been doing a great job and I'd love to join the ranks :)

First of all, I would like to welcome everyone who joined the forum last night and this morining! We are all in it for the long hall and I believe if we support each other, we will be able to conquer our goals.

To alle0299 Congrats on losing 10 lbs in less then a month! I wouldn't worry about the last 5 days to much because maybe your body is just trying to catch up. Good luck though!

To the elliptical users: When I used to go to the gym a few years ago, and I was in somewhat decent shape, I loved the elliptical because it always made me feel like I was really working for it! After a while, I was able to do 25 minutes on level four without feeling too much like I was going to die! Lol. Oh and dalmalama, I agree that the machine like and eliptical is second hardest to the stepper. I think it is actually called a treader. I miss going to the gym so much. Another excercise that really puts the burn in your thighs (and this is surprising) doesn't require a machine or any other equipment. Just lay flat on your back, raise your legs to a 90 degree angle, and open them as wide as you can very slowly, then just as slowly close them again. By rep 10 you swear your thighs will just fall off from the burn.

Mommytohayden: Congratulations on the big drop in weight this month. That is so inspiring. I would love to lose 10 lbs by the 13th of Febuary...and since Thursday, the 24th, I have lost 4.7 so I guess it's something. I wish there was a gym close to me. I would love to join again. Meanwhile, my husband and I have been going for walks over the last couple days (as long as it is above 20 degrees!) so maybe that will help.

Anyhow, I am starting to run on a little much, so to everyone I didn't greet individually, welcome to our group, and congratulations on reaching the goals you have set so far and also for having the will to be determined to see them through the rest of the way. I promise to try to be more involved in responding to everyone!

PS To trying to eat more than 1500 calories a day: I would try to eat some healthy high cal foods to boost your intake. Peanut butter is a good one because it is high in protein and omega somethings! Smile

P.S.S. Can anyone tell me how to set up an about myself entry? Or does that have to be a journal entry? Thanks!
My Y does not have that other machine, but it sounds hard!

Other than the gym, what does everyone do at home to exercise?

I put in Richard Simmons video's ( hey don't laugh they work...LOL), and I walk on the treadmill.
Right now I'm doing the National Body Challenge from Discovery Health. They have free video workouts on line every day. They're great! I also take walks in the evening with my husband.

When the Body Challenge is over, I'm going back to my own dvds and tapes - Tae Bo, mostly. I also have some ANCIENT workout tape from the 1980s (omg pink spandex!) but I turn the volume off and turn my music up, and it's great! I also do belly dancing, yoga, and tai chi, but those are more for stretching and fun and flexibility. I focus mostly on tae bo for areobic exercise and to get my heart pumping.

Also, long walks are great. It's quiet bonding time, and a chance to enjoy nature.

go to your profile, and under your picture, hit the edit link. it'll pull up a bunch of stuff you can fill out. you can add your bio at the bottom of the page.

Lol I had Richard Simmons Videos (well they were my moms) when I was like 8. They are fun! I used to have this Barbie aerobic video too. That was lots of fun.

I kind of want to try Carmen Electras workout videos. I figure that if nothing else I will get a good laugh out of it, but I think I am too afraid to even try it.

I really haven't got to many out home excercises in but I am registered for the discovery body challenge too so I will check out the videos. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks dalmalama!!!
I've tried one of the Tae Bo workout videos and it was great!  Usually I just go to the gym 3x per week and do 25 minutes on that ellipitcal-like machine and 25 minutes on the bike.  My boyfriend and I are looking to buy a BowFlex machine (hopefully this week).  Once we get that I'll try to do that 3x per week (on the days I don't go to the gym.  Luckily, my boyfriend is a former Marine who is smart about physical fitness - he's gonna kick my butt back into shape :)

lucky you alle0299 for having someone who knows enough about physical fitness to help you get into shape!!! I actually tried a tae bo video once and I thought it was great too. But I just don't have the room in my apartment to do that kind of workout anymore. Litterally, there is like 3 inches of walking room!

I think I might get an eliptical tonight. Walmart has one on sale that Golds gym makes. We will see!

Has anyone else read the journal posts by lizshuler entitled 1200 cal/day is bull and 1200 cal/day is bull part 2? I'm kind of confused. She's stating that the "daily goal calculator" is bogus and that we should never eat below our BMR's, but instead up our exercise. -furrows eyebrows- I don't know if what I'm doing is right... I just exercise enough, so that when I subtract 1000 from my burn meter, it's at least 1200. If I exercise a lot that day, I may eat around 1600 or 1700 calories, just to make sure that my deficient isn't any more than 1000. lizshuler is making statements about losing lean muscle and not fat if you don't eat your BMR number (after subtracting exercise). What do you all think?

I'm 24 and currently 216. My eventual goal is 130. And I know what you're thinking, but I'm not one of those girls that wants to weigh a crazy amount, it's just that I'm only 5'2"...and that's on a "tall" day!

I'm doing the Couch to 5K program, and while it's been really good at making me go to the gym, I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere. I decided not to weigh myself until the date when I should be at my first mini-goal (February 31st, 199.9) because I figured it would feel better to see a big number jump, but now I'm worried that I'm not actually losing, but gaining. I just feel heavier, ya know? Maybe it's perception, I'm not sure.

Congratulations to everyone who has already made it so far, and good luck to everyone just starting their journey. Cheers to being curvy!
