Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds
As far as weight loss goes, I really have no clue! I'm sorry :-(
As far as clothes go, I'm only down one size, but I've already donated most of my clothes to Goodwill. I kept my favorites, and I'm going to alter them down so I don't have to buy more "in between" sized clothes than necessary. (In general, I have a bunch of clothes in various sizes since I gained weight over several years, but some are so outdated, I'll probably never wear them.) In any case, if you know how to sew at all, I think it's worth keeping some things and altering them yourself. I bought an old sewing machine off of Craigslist a year ago for $20, and it works way better than any new one I've used, and it's totally worth it! Getting clothes professionally tailored can get pricey, so I'd say only do that with clothes you absolutely love. There are some stylish/trendy second hand shops that are good for "in between" sizes as well. (I found a pair of size 18 Seven jeans for like $30!).
dalmalama, mostly I ate bad 'cuz my dad was in town visiting me for half the weekend, and that's what we do: eat! But you're right; I don't care because I'm still on a high from the date! :-)
allydan, i WISH there were some vintage shops around here that sell plus sizes. i'd be there in a shot. there are lots of boutiques around, but they're only for "regular" sizes. which is dumb, b/c more than half the chicks in this city are fat.
ALLI: has anyone tried this?
clothes: going to do a grand sort tonight then. my problem is that i bought a bunch of really nice clothes for work and am having a hard time letting go of them. cute tops and blazers... but they are TOO big on me. to the point that some of the people who work with me have said i should get smaller clothes. i am now at my college weight (2003) and all those clothes are khakis and sweater sets from The GAP. not exactly law firm appropriate clothing -- here's it's a black and gray slacks, fancy tops kind of place.
would appreciate more feedback on the whole "more than 2 lbs/week" thing too. i haven't been keeping track except for the last few weeks... it's only month 2 of my "re-vamping" schedule and i'm working out like 6-8 hours a week so i think that more than 2 lbs is to be expected for that reason alone. don't want to do any permanent damage though!
Hello All,
I just wanted to let you all know that I was once in your position. I was 22 and 228 pounds. but a year and a half later, I am at 158-161 pounds (depending on time of day). I lost the 70 pounds in about 10 months and I've been holding steady at this weight for awhile now. it is hard work but it is SOOO worth it. I still have the last 10 pounds to go so my work isn't done but I just wanted to let you guys know that it is possible to lose the weight.
Wish you all the best of luck on your journey.
Oh, as for ALLI
I have heard some mixed things about it. It works if you follow it to the T. for some people who cheated, they were left with a pretty embarassing stain on their rear. Click on the link below for an article.
And as for Alli, ew! No way I'd ever try that stuff. I've heard too many gross horror stories, and I think losing weight the old fashioned way (eating less, working out more) is the most sure and safest way there is. As far as other diet pills, aren't they just legalized speed? No way.
As far as clothes go, I kind of gained this last bit of weight unexpectedly, so I have all of my clothes from much smaller sizes. (Plus... I don't get rid of things I like... *sigh*) So I guess lucky for me I don't have to buy any new things, at least for a long while. (Though, I do admit, one reason why I decided it was about time for me to get off my lazy ass and get healthy was because none of the clothes I had were fitting comfortably any more!)
I don't know about a healthy weight loss pace because my scale never budges at ALL, until, unexpectedly it just drops 5 lbs over night it seems! It's totally weird. I know it's physically impossible, so I think my scale is broken. (I'm saving up my tips for a new one!)
But I hear, 1-2 lbs is the safest. So I'm okay with aiming towards that. Though I have heard of bigger people losing a lot more a lot faster. Anyone experience this?
and finally, what is PCO? Sorry for being ignorant... I was just wondering.
Hope you all are well and have a great week!
Haven't written in a while, hope everyone is doing well.
I have also heard again and again that the slower the better, and that's pretty much how I've been going, anyone else find the slow pace discouraging though? That you're working hard should't it be moving faster!! That happens to me sometimes. I'm under 1 pound away from losing 60 lbs with about another 100 to go, though I try not to think about that part of things.
Also I know this sounds wierd coming from a female but I find shopping depressing!! Since I'm on a tight budget and clothes don't fit me for very long, granted it's for good reason now, but I still have to go out and shop again and spend the money again, and I do buy inexpensive clothes and have very few clothes because of this.
feddiechick - PCOS is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. The name basically describes it - cysts on your ovaries. I've been diagnosed with it since I was 15... although, I have to admit, I'm pretty ignorant about it. All I really know is that it makes it difficult to lose weight, and very difficult to become pregnant.
dalmalama - I'm heading to Orlando. My parents have a timeshare down there so they go a few times a year (I don't usually go, but this is actually my second time this year lol) I can't wait for some warmth!! Although, I'm sooo worried about eating. But I'm pretty sure I can have some control over myself... and I'm going to try to walk lots while I'm there.
Oh well.... I'll just have to wait and see what the scale says when I get back!
On the topic of clothes....
I can't wait until I can start giving my clothes away to Goodwill and go shopping again! Yay! I also have a bit of a spending addiction to go along with my eating addiction lol.
I LOVE SHOPPING FOR CLOTHES!!! :)
When I get down to my goal weight, I'm going on a HUGE shopping spree!! That will be my reward to myself :)
When I'm in between now and then though, I'll probably try to wear the clothes I have as long as I can, and luckily I also am a pack-rat so I have tons of older stuff from when I was smaller (in public school! lol)
On the topic of weight loss...
I agree that when you first start losing, 3-5lbs a week is ok. But once you've been at it for a while, 1-2lbs a week is safe. I just started and I'm only at 1-2lbs per week. At first I was very discouraged because 2 years ago when I did Jenny Craig I was losing like 7lbs per week at the beginning! But now I know that 1-2lbs is best, and if I consistently lose, it'll be healthier and better for me in the long run. Not to mention maybe it will actually stay off!! And... loose skin... yes, we want to minimize that as much as we can!
Anyways... great progress everyone!
Hope you're all having a great week. :)
oh, and Allydan - congrats on a spectacular first date! I love when first dates go well! I want one!! lol... I think you should give us details so that I can live vicariously though you haha :)
welcome aboard, michelle!
clothes update: remember those jeans i told you i was gonna hold onto until i could fit a smaller size? well, i washed them last night, took them out of the machine, and one of the legs was completely ripped open. not because of the machine, but b/c the pants were so worn. darn it! and i only have one pair of jeans. i had just gotten rid of the rest of them b/c they were either worn beyond wear or too big. and i live in jeans. so now, i guess i gotta go buy at least one pair to get me through the next few weeks. i don't wanna, but i don't really have a choice. i'll see if i can squeeze my rump into the next smaller size. here's hoping! (fingers crossed!!)
i'm kind of afraid to toss my clothes for fear that i will gain the weight back. is that really wrong? i spent a LOT of money on clothes 1.5 years ago because i had finished school and needed a "work-appropriate" wardrobe. at the time, i was a size 28/30 and vowed that i would get down to a size 24 cuz that's the highest size JCP had. now, at 274 lbs, most size 24 and 2X things are too large on me. but it's weird, when i was on my way up, that would be the right size. i guess i must be building muscle from my 5 hours of elliptical/week + swimming routine.
yesterday, i got to put on a size 1X shirt (a beautiful greenish-teal color) that I had bought a year ago in hopes of fitting into and I wore it to work. I cannot tell you how THAT alone made me feel confident/pretty/happy/in control. so odd, i know, it's still a size 1X but man, did it feel good... 1X is just a size away from XL, which is the "normal" women's clothing lines brands. i haven't gotten to shop in a limited/express/ann taylor since junior high!!
Watchme...for me its the exact opposite I don't want to keep the clothes for fear I'll let myself get back there, so i get rid of the, when they're replaced, and if I ever have to go there again it's going to be that pain all over again, which keeps me in check.
