Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

I haven't had pasta in quite some time and today it just sounded good.  So I had some for dinner.  Shrimp, kalamata olives, fresh artichoke hearts and grape tomatoes cooked up with a little white wine, evoo, fresh garlic and spices over thin whole wheat spaghetti.  Mmmmmmmm!!!  It was so good and when I entered it on the recipe creator, it only came up to just under 400 calories (and a B+ grade)!  Yay for yummy pasta!

that pasta dish sounds yum!

i was just sitting here, wishing and hoping i could get out of town on an awesome trip this year. i can't do it any time soon, but i've decided to plan a trip to buenos aires this winter since i had to cancel my birthday trip to thailand. anybody been to buenos aires? any suggestions, advice?

i haven't traveled out of the country in years... i keep putting it off cuz i don't wanna see myself in the pics.... but i'm gonna plan a trip for the end of the summer now too cuz that should be when i hit my 100 pounds lost moment!!! =)  i'd like to go to spain!!

so got an email or two kicking my butt into gear telling me to go to the gym and such and so i did.... thanks guys!! :)  1 hour 40 mins on the elliptical, moderate effort, 1200 cals.  phewwww.  gonna go to bed now!!  thanks for picking me up when i'm down though.  gotta keep my eye on the prize!

anyone know of any good smoothie recipes?  i've got some bananas that are starting to turn brown :)
Hi girls! As damalama said, Black bottom cupcakes are cupcakes that are yummy milk chocolate and cheesecake. But my Mother in Law swirls chocolate chips into the batter and the cheesecake, and instead of having the cheesecake be on top only, she swirls it through the cupcakes. Oh So so so so goood and soo sent from hell! I am proud of my self though, I am down 2.3 pounds this week, even with the hell sent black bottom cupcakes! Yay!

Watchme: a good smoothie recipe for bananas...well there is no such thing! I hate bananas! Actually, my cousin always makes a tropical smoothie....she puts bananas, strawberry yogurt, and orange juice in together. She really likes it so I would say it's good. Just be sure to use frozen orange juice! Yay for going to the gym!

damalama: I have never been out of the country except to go to Canada, but I don't think that really counts. If you go to Buenes Aires though, you will have to take pictures of something Evita, because my mom is a huge Evita fan. Oh, and maybe you should hint a little that you are interested in this guy???

By the way..Yessi... I don't think I congratulated you on your five pounds! Way to go!

Allydan: I can't complain about the person who does the scheduling because that person is our new manager! Boo! She is an awful tyrant when she wants to be, and their is so much favoritism going on here! Just because I am not a butt licker! (Well, the other girl who got that week is an extreme butt licker, and a drinking buddy of the manager. I do neither) Thanks anyhow. It's all good though. I put in my resume for a Customer Service position yesterday, where I would make twice what I make now an hour, so wish me luck!
I've been away from the forums part of this site for quiiiite a while but is it okay for me to join you ladies? I'm 23, 5'8, about 240? (I think haha). I'm currently living in South Korea and will be here for several more years. I'm going on a serrrious diet. It sucks being surround by 90lb Korean girls. haha

Anyway... I've lost about 25lbs so far and want to keep going. My goal weight is 145-150 but I want to set 10lb mini-goals until I hit my goal.

FATS ("good" ones)

What are you guys getting your "good" fats from?  Mine are from oil and nuts and peanut butter... Was just curious wha else is a good fat.  I apparently don't get enough according to my food log (says my WW person) because I only tend to do one of the above things a day.  I just don't cook much so oil is tough.... It's usually either pb on a piece of bread or almonds with my 100 calorie snack pack.

FRAME SIZE

good morning ladies!  i've found some helpful information on how to calculate frame size and then found a calculator on the same page that calculates healthy bmis taking frame size into consideration:

Body frame size is determined by a person's wrist circumference in relation to his height. For example, a man whose height is over 5' 5" and wrist is 6" would fall into the small-boned category.Determining frame size: To determine the body frame size, measure the wrist with a tape measure and use the following chart to determine whether the person is small, medium, or large boned.Women:Height under 5'2" Small = wrist size less than 5.5"Medium = wrist size 5.5" to 5.75"Large = wrist size over 5.75"Height 5'2" to 5' 5" Small = wrist size less than 6"Medium = wrist size 6" to 6.25"Large = wrist size over 6.25"Height over 5' 5" Small = wrist size less than 6.25"Medium = wrist size 6.25" to 6.5"Large = wrist size over 6.5"Men:Height over 5' 5" Small = wrist size 5.5" to 6.5"Medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"Large = wrist size over 7.5"  (http://www.healthcentral.com/diet-exercise/id eal-body-weight-7181-146.html)

hey suzanne, i will drop a hint that i'm interested, but i have to see him! Smile i've only met him/hung out with him once, but i've "casually" asked about him, and everyone seems to think he's the best thing ever. so, it's not really anything yet. and i was checking out some stuff to do in buenos aires last night, and saw that you can take a tour of the peron's old house, the one where evita did the song. you know, "don't cry for me argentina." if you can take pictures there, i'll definitely snap one of the building and one on the balcony. and good luck on the job search. i worked customer service for four years, and it can be a pain. but more money does make it better!

watchme: that smoothie recipe suzanne posted sounds yum. you should add some ice to it, though. and i eat a lot of salmon for my good fats, like 2 times a week. and nuts 2 or 3 times a week. and i have a mayo that's made w omega 3 fats. i don't cook with oil either, because i don't cook, but olive oil's good. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i think any oil made from seeds/nuts is pretty good.

and hi, alibuch!

edit: watchme, i just did the wrist measurement thing from the link you posted. according to that, i'm large-framed. i never thought i was large framed! you totally blew my mind with that. i mean, yeah, i knew i was a big girl, but i thought there was a dainty little thing hiding underneath the insulation. well, at least now i'll be prepared when the fat comes off. thanks for the link!

edit edit: wait a minute. i went to the other link, and it asks for your body frame and tells you how to get it, but w/one hand my fingers overlap my wrist, and with the other hand, my fingers touch. now i'm confused again!

i know what you mean about frame size.  i'm a large frame too.  i'm 5'3.5" and my wrist size is like 7.25"  i don't know if i'm happy about that or what it means to have a large frame anyway!  all i know is that according to the bmi calculator, a "healthy" weight range for me is actually about 10-15 lbs than i have thought my whole life.  weird.
will have to try the smoothie recipe.  a lot of ppl seem to use frozen yogurt too.

i'm sorry to keep posting, but i just dug around that site watchme posted and i came across this body fat percentage calculator. here's the address.

http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/home -body-fat-test-2774-143.html

i don't know if i can trust it, though. it says at my weight, 269 lbs, i only have 37.7% body fat. that's still 100 pounds of fat, but 37.7%? and 167.6 pounds of lean body mass. really? come on. what am i, an amazon?

it says it's supposed to be right within a range of +/- 3-5%, but still, that's a low number. and if it is right, that's crazy! i just measured myself a couple nights ago, so i knew my measurements. if you wanna try it you need to know your measurements. this is crazy!

I don't think that's right.  It told me that I have 32% body fat.... 86.7 Pounds of fat and 184.3 Pounds of lean (muscle, bone, body water).

Ladies, on the wrist measurements, just know that they will get smaller as you lose weight!  Crazy enough, we have fat there too!!  When I was smaller I used to be able to almost overlap my fingers, now they are about .25 inch away from eachother.  So you may have a smaller frame than you think...or maybe a bigger one!

Suzanne: good luck with the new position!  You deserve better than what you have right now!!

Welcome Alibuch!  I hear you on the 90 pound Korean girl thing...I am a Korean girl but nowhere near 90 pounds!  It's frustrating when everyone else of your ethnicity is TINY!!  Makes me feel that much bigger!  lol.

Watchmeshine: I get my good fats from pretty much the same things as you....oils (olive, flax seed), nuts (sunflower seeds, almonds and walnuts) and olives and avocados.  As far as smoothies, I just dump all kinds of fruit in with a frozen lowfat yogurt and either some juice or milk.  I also add benefiber.

I did this one (height/weight/neck/hips/waist) and that was closer to what my nutritionist got more recently.  http://www.linear-software.com/online.html  55% body fat.
pinkcobra: thanks for the welcome! do you know any low-fat, healthy korean foods? Sadly, I don't like kimchi so anything involving that I probably won't like. haha I'm going to try soon-doo-boo tomorrow. haha
that calc gave me 59% body fat. WTF? i think i'll ask my doctor to track this for me. b/c i really wanna keep track of that, and this is driving me nuts now!

after this i'm gonna stop posting for a while. i just found a quick little research study that tested the accuracy of the navy circumference test, and it showed it's pretty friggin' accurate. and using that test, i do have roughly the amount of body fat that original link said i do.  here's the link to that. use the second navy measurement. it's strictly for the ladies, although that first number gives me pause:

http://www.gymgoal.com/dtool_fat.html

this sucks. i'm gonna go obsess about something else for a while.

that's got wayyy too many questions for me to do :)  i'm just gonna stick to my lose inches plan.  gotta get to 41 around my hips to be a comfortable size 14.

I think dalmamama and i have taken over this forum.... sorry :)  but i will keep posting anyway, hehe.  need to do some work though eventually!  sooo the next topic....

anyone have a day when they are just RAVENOUS?  i'm HUNGRY.  like physically hungry (not crazy rumblings in the tummy but definitely hungry) today.  wondering if it's cuz i did a big workout last night after having taken 5 days off cuz of all the work.  have eaten a big bowl of raisin bran/super k combo with skim milk (450 cals), 2 100 calorie snack packs mixed with almonds (370 cals), a piece of double fiber bread with tons of turkey (210 cals) and a jello sugar free pudding (60 cals).  and it's only 1 PM!!!!  1090 cals already; yikes!
