Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

lol with "circle of friends" rule, dalma! do you already know what your costume is going to be?

yeah, i have an idea, ana. that party's on the 25th, but there's another one i'm going to on halloween (that he for sure won't be at) that i was invited to first. so earlier this week i was looking at costumes, and i saw this totally hot stewardess one. i wasn't gonna get it b/c it's 65 bucks and i figured why blow 65 bucks on one night?

but now it's two nights, one of which i really wanna look super hot, so i can rub that jerk's nose in his flaky ways. so i'm gonna pick that up this weekend. although, i'm going w/ a couple people, and the guy asked me to think of a costume for the 3 of us. but he doesn't know the deal, so he doesn't know i have no desire to walk in there like the 3 stooges.

hey everyone, well, i've been MIA for a while but still skimming posts from time to time so i'm pretty much caught up.  glad to see everyone is doing well.

sweepie, hope your hand is getting better.

ana, what's your major?  what's a "production house" exactly?  little confused by that.

liza, i remember being really happy to be under 300 lbs as well... and, each new decade brought me increased confidence, in fact.  i've been in the 250s since may which is EXTREMELY frustrating but i've gone from being a super tight size 20W to a normal size 20W so i'm trying to just revel in that.  went home over the weekend for my religious holiday (my equivalent of easter/christmas) and had a lot of fun with my family.  got a lot of compliments from friends who hadn't seen me in a while who marvelled at how much weight i had dropped... they hadn't seen me since my 290s days so for them, it was a big deal.  it's funny but, as much as i think of dropping weight in 30-40 lb chunks, that's about how much it takes for me to drop 2 sizes which is when i think people notice most.  every 2 sizes or so.  i'm trying to focus on 16W by the end of the year, 12 by the end of may, etc. etc.  it makes it easier to think about.

dalma, glad your work out routine is going well.  i think i'm fully comfortable with the 250s now and being a size 20W and have reached the point where i'm just ITCHING to get so many facets of my life on track.  losing more weight and hitting the 220s-230s by the end of the year is one of the major goals.  hope i can still do it.  salad and protein, here i come!

boots, i hope that your job offers come through.  why are you taking time off from exercising though?  i can understand time off from swimming or the gym but maybe try to fit in some walks and stuff.  even when i can't make it to the gym necessarily, just walking 30 minutes outside clears my head and makes me feel so much better.  i strongly encourage you to keep doing that sort of stuff.  it will definitely help.

ally, i'm really proud of how far you have come to be seeing the 160s even.  hope i can look to you for some inspiration as i struggle to get out of the size 20Ws.

sonini, the BC is definitely helping with my hair loss cuz it has more estrogen (YAZ) but on my off week (this week) when it's supposed to be my TOM (which hasn't hit yet, for some odd reason), i start losing hair again cuz i'm not taking the pill.  it's frustrating.  almost makes me want to just keep taking the darn pill!

dani, sorry that you haven't lost much lately but didn't you have a HUGE loss the week before?  that might be the reason why.  i tend to lose 5 lbs all at once and then nothing for a while.  it's uber frustrating but just the way our bodies tend to let go.  keep on trekking.

as for me, i've got personal training tonight.  did my body fat percentage check yesterday and it's down to 42%.  am really happy with that.  i've got a whole lot of muscle though (close to 150 lbs) and it only seems to be going up!!!  that whole gain 1% of muscle per month estimate has been pretty gosh darn accurate for me.  scary! if i can maintain this muscle weight and just lose 50 lbs of body fat, i'll be at 25% body fat at 200 lbs.  that seems unreal and weird.

thanks watchme: your right I need to do something...You know what I am just totally bummed that the pool across the street closed--and girls I swam because I wanted too, I didn't have to force or talk myself into going swimming but with every other exercise, I have talk myself into going--of course I'm fine and do feel better once I do it but it's just hard doing it, your right if I can at least take a 30 minute walk I should do it, thanks---uh--life is tough.. Good to hear from you ..Congrats on the bodyfat!

watchme, i know you can do it!

where is everyone?

thanks for the encouragement, guys.  i'm feeling really frustrated.  i'm just stuck, ya know?  stuck in the 250s and stuck in size 20Ws.  seem to be gaining muscle and losing some body fat, definitely losing some inches but, still not enough to get me into size 18Ws.  trying to focus on the GOOD --> no longer being a size 28W.  BUT, that only makes me feel MORE tired.

i'm here..just lurking..

i think i need to reset my brain.  that is what i did back in january.  i had been a size 24W for a year basically and so it was like my "new" starting point.  putting aside the whole once being a size 28W thing.  so, again now, i need a reset.  i'm a size 20W.  i'll say it again to convince myself, I'M A SIZE 20W.

I'm not a size 28W.  Or a 26W.  Or a 24W.  Or a 22W.  I'm not a "tight" size 20W either.  I've tried on even my "tighest" of size 20Ws (basically, my capris) and they all fit me.  I tried on tons of suit pants and suit skirts and the size 20Ws fit me.  I'm a size 20W.

I probably sound a bit nutty but realizing that I'm a size 20W has taken me about 2 months to adjust to.  Realizing it AND NOT FEELING like i'm a size 24W (beginning of the year) or size 28W (2006) and how very different a size 20W LOOKS from a size 28W has been another thing to grapple with.

SO, now that I've established that I'M A SIZE 20W, it's time to focus on getting me to a size 18W (hopefully by the end of this month!) and then a size 16W as soon as possible but most definitely by the end of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!  then i'll reset again and focus on getting into a size 14W, then a regular 14 and from there, any new targets will just be gravy :D

good thinking! I can't wait until I can reset my thinking! Laughing

Hey ladies - another day done, over the hump, right?

Watchme - how close are you to 18's? Have you tried any on at all? That always gives me an idea of far I have to go (can be good or bad news)...Like last weekend I got a pair of 16's on and zipped up. Now they were comfortable, and I wouldn't be able to wear them in public, but I got them on! I still consider myself an 18, but will hopefully be to the next size down soon.

Had to take my cat to the vet today. He has a skin disease that we're now trying to treat, my vet said he's at the early stages at least....so I hope he gets better...

hey dani,  hope your cat is feeling better!  hope teaching is going well too!  i fit into one pair of 18Ws from lane bryant but very uncomfortably.  have fit into them since last month.  i don't fit into 2 other pairs that are capris (and always seem to take me longer to fit into) that are also from LB and are size 18W.  don't have anymore 18W pants.  do have a whole bunch of regular size 18s though so i'm hoping that i can skip over the 18Ws and jump right into size 16w/18 regular pants :)

I got offered the JOB  and I'm going to think about it tonight and then let them know tomorrow if I want the position.....Yikes..I was so nervous on the phone..hopefully I can gather myself for tomorrow so I can negotiate some salary.....

WAY TO GO BOOTS!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!

hey ladies!

Today was totally in control, and I walked for an hour. GO ME!

CONGRATS BOOTS! I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!

dalma, you can still dress up as a stewardess! :D Just sell your friend the "flight crew" idea, he can dress  as a pilot and the third one can dress like a co-pilot or like a flight attendant or "the" obnoxious tourist (with a gym bag full of stolen pillows, empty bottles of tanning lotion and bugspray and Holiday Inn towels, lol!). Tell your friend that the outfit for a pilot is very simple, he just have to wear white pants, navy hat and a navy jacket. Your costumes will rock the party, believe meCool

watchme, I'm glad you're embracing the fact that you're smaller that you used to and I'm even more glad that you showed your friends and family the success of your effort. By the way, I'm majoring in mass media studies which includes visual (film/TV), print (journalism/internet) and audio (radio/podcasts). A production house is a company that makes media products (from any of the three major divisions) for companies and individuals. A production house is not a network (like CBS, A&E, etc) because it doesn't have studios or channels. Right now I'm a video archive assistant which means that I look for shots in film/tv productions the house can use as backup images in its own videos. For example, today they asked me to look for something that showed "urban violence" so I got a bunch of action dvds and "scanned"  them, which means that I skipped the parts I wouldn't use and wrote down the ones I would so later someone loads those fragments into the computer.

yeah, i was thinking that, ana, but i don't know if they'll go for it. the other girl going is his girlfriend, and i'm sure she's gonna wanna go in something trampy, and i don't wanna compete w/ some other chick in the same outfit as me, especially when she's a size 8. besides, i don't wanna spend more than the ride there with them; i wanna mingle and meet new guys people.

that stewardess costume was a waste of money, so i've decided to go as freddy kruger, but the girl version. i just found the red striped dress, which i'll be able to wear way more than twice. now all i need to get is the fedora and the knife glove. and i'm done! it should be cute.

Watchme, awesome about the body fat % going down!  And yes, you'll get there.  Maybe being stuck for a bit helps your mind to catch up with the changes in your body?

Dani, sorry to hear about the cat.  Hope he's doing better!  Hate when the pets get sick (or fleas or anything).

Boots, grats on the offer.  Definitely negotiate price on that, cause I know how that industry likes to pay!

Dalma, good thinking on the costume.  I've never really done costumes and am thinking that in the future, I can actually just buy a costume!  I've never even considered one in the past.  But, sounds very creative.  And I'm sure you'll look great in whatever you wear!

Been a boring and tiring day.  I need to go to bed at a more normal hour.  But hubby goes to bed late, so a part of me just kinda waits a while til he's ready.  Not on purpose, but somewhere in my head...  Besides that, I've had a really good eating day so far!  Just have some yummy snack left, but don't know what it will be yet.

hey guys, logged 1600 calories last night, worked out with my trainer for an hour and then walked 1/2 a mile from the bus to my home.  wearing a size 16 skirt today (it's elastic so i've been able to wear it for some time now) in an effort to enjoy the last few warm days left here.  am going to a dinner party tonight so have planned to eat no more than 900 calories before it.  there will be a fish option which i'm probably going to do but i'd like to have room for the dessert, whatever it is!

ana, your major sounds really interesting.  my little brother wants to major in communications... he is not sure what concentration to specialize in though, but is leaning toward advertising (the other options are journalism & PR).  he might add a bachelors in business administration with a marketing bent as well to that.  we're all about ensuring he's got some job security, even if it takes him 5 years to finish.

I just did my measurement logs (the calculations).  Since 1/1/8, I've lost 9 inches off my hips, 9 inches off my waist, and 6.5 inches below my bust.  Since the way start (9/12/6), I've lost 17+ inches off my hips, 14+ inches off my waist and 11.5 inches below my bust.

I've got to lose 2.5 more inches off my hips and 5.5 more inches off my waist til I'm a REGULAR size 14.  After that, I need to lose an additional 4 inches off of both my hips and waist to be a size 8.

So, grand total of inches to lose to be a size 8 are 6.5" off my hips and 9.5" off my waist.  Notice how much more it is off the waist -- the curse of the apple shape!!!

Oh yeah.  I also think I'm actually a tight 18W.  Even though the LB 18W capris don't fit me, the regular 18Ws do and my measurements line up with regular 18W pants.  the LB capris always seem to be cut a little differently.

ALSO, did the calculations between now through May and lost 4" off my hips, 5" off my waist, and 2.5" below my bust, despite the fact that I only saw a scale difference of 5 lbs.  According to my scale's Body Fat percentage calculation, I've lost a total of 10 lbs of body fat since May but gained about 5 lbs of muscle.  So, I guess the last 4 months have not been completely useless but it's still kind of annoying.  I guess I should keep focusing on inches then, eh?

way to go, watchme! and the optimism looks good on you! Laughing

haha, thanks dalma.  just trying to keep myself from throwing my scale out the window and/or from going nuts.  it's tough to not have a weight goal in mind.  to be 250-something, 5'3" and a size 18W makes no sense to me.  then again, perhaps i have heavier bones plus i know that almost 150 lbs is LBM plus i'm an apple shaped with a small booty and narrower hips but a bigger stomach and chest.

eh.  i need a plan!!  but i have no end weight in mind to get to a size 8 (i had thought 140 lbs but now i'm not so sure that it will take me 110 lbs to get there).
