Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

Pure hotness, Dani!  You look amazing!

Hi ladies!

Glad to see it's been a bit busier in here the last few days!!

Since Saturday I've pretty much spent every spare minute I had reading Twilight. There has been so much "hooplaw" about it, I decided I better read it. Really didn't think I was going to get into it, and to my great dismay, I did! Lol. Now I'm off to Chapters after work to buy the next book in the series.

Had a terrible weekend of eating (blogged about it on my weightloss blog). But, to my surprise, I was down to 233 on the scale thismorning. I'm going to aim to see 229 by the end of the month. I've been in the 230s since July/August now and it is time to get out!! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

dani - damn girl, looking HOT

dani, gorgeous dress, skinny!

Hi ladies!

Boots, major congrats on the 4.2 lbs, chica!  I'm glad you found something that works well for you! Keep up the good work! :-)

Dani, OMG, you are SMOKIN, mama!  I absolutely LOVE that dress! Have fun in Cali! :-)

Sonini, I've been fighting the urge to check out Twilight, mostly because I feel like I'm a little too old to be into it when everyone I see that's excited about it is under the age of 17, lol!  But since you say it's addictive, I just might have to give in to the temptation... Maybe I'll order it online so no one will see me buy it in the bookstore, lol!  Although seeing as I pre-ordered all the Harry Potter books and went to pick them up at Borders the day they came out with hundreds of little kids, maybe I'm being overly dramatic!  And I've most def got my fingers crossed for you!  You'll be in the 220s in no time! :-)

Dalma, I second McYummy!  And maybe the bf title is coming in the near future?  Hmm?  Has it been addressed again?  I'm curious/nosy! :-)

Qt, I SO get the fitting into old clothes!  That's probably a better feeling even than buying new clothes that fit!  Keep up the good work!  And feel better soon! :-)

As for me, I'm doing well... I think I should be good to work out again after Thanksgiving, and I'm SO excited!  I'm putting together a whole workout plan for myself so I can really go into the new year doing well!  I've got 27lbs more to lose, and I really, really, really want to hit that by my birthday in April.

I'm excited for Thanksgiving, though... I'm going with the BF to celebrate with his family, and it should be pretty fun.  It's our first holiday thing together, so I'm feeling especially sappy, lol!

Happy Tuesday, everyone! :-)

Hey everybody!!!

So I've decided to try out the gym that my membership was transferred to. It's not too bad, but I still felt a little uncomfortable there last night. Hopefully I can learn to ignore that, especially now that I have a major goal to work towards. Which brings me to my next question...

Should be I be all gung ho about losing a bunch of weight over the next 10 months for the wedding, because I don't want to purchase the dress lets say in January-March and it be too big come September for the wedding. And have to fork out tons of money to have it altered and taken in for it to look right on me. What should I do. I've been pretty good about have a salad at least once a day for one of my meals. I've stopped drinking my diet sodas all together, so now I only drink sugar free juices and water, mainly water.

We have our hall reserved, a date picked, a tentative ceremony site planned (going to look at it on Monday to deside for sure) and see if they have the date we have picked available. We bought Shawn's wedding band on Sunday. The party is picked out (at least on my side, Shawn hasn't decided who he wants as his best man yet, but he's got a few people in mind for his side of the wedding party). I'm going dress shopping January 3rd with some of my girlfriends. I can't wait!!! I've been shopping online at a few places, and found a dress that I really like. Check it out! www.davidsbridal.com Style #: 9BR1035. Let me know what you all think! We both want a simple styled wedding, and don't want anything too fancy. I really like the look of this dress. Plus it looks like it'd be somewhat sliming looking? The girls' dresses I'm thinking of Style #81544, in Marine color.

Before I forget, Dani you look great in that dress! You've done a great job, keep up the great work!!!

Ally, go ahead and see Twilight...who cares what others think about you seeing the movie, if you're really that interested, go see it girl. Or wait till it comes out on DVD & rent it.

Dalma, I 3rd McYummy!!! Sounds like it'd be a good name for the potential bf.

Happy Tuesday everybody!

dani, you really do look amazing in that dress... as for the bay area... i had fun visiting alcatraz.  the farmer's market boots mentioned is in front of the ferry building.  pier 39 is a lot of fun, esp shopping on the stores around there, going to ghiradelli square, eating clam chowder in bourden's (sp?) sourdough bread bowls.  north beach area is fabulous... washington sq park.  lots of fun stuff to do; just wander.  the parks are amazing too.  don't know if they do free plays at this time of year but they do in the summer.  it's a fabulous city.

boots, congrats on 4.2 lbs!  i somehow missed that post.

ally, i'm sure you can get down another 27... you've come so far!

sweepie, very cute dresses! since  you know what you want, why don't you wait till say, 2-3 months before the wedding, see where you are, then get a dress maybe a size bigger than what you think you'll be? that way you won't need a huge alteration if you lose all the weight you want. buying it now is just asking for trouble, since there are so many variables.

you lost 4.2 lbs, boots? i missed that, too! way to go!

ally, i feel the exact same way about twilight, even though i've seen all the harry potter movies in theaters! i don't know why this one's different. maybe b/c the targeted age group isn't that much younger than us, so maybe it'll look like we're trying to act like teenagers. like when you see 30-somethings dressed like 18 year olds. eww!

have fun w/ the bf over the holiday! i know you've already met the parents, so it should be terrific!

as for mcyummy and me, he keeps hinting about being my bf. sometimes it feels like he's the girl, because he's basically reminding himself all the time not to rush anything (he likes to leap into relationships. me too, but i think i'm a little more cautious than he is). i'm pretty sure it'll be "official" before xmas. he's so sappy! but it's cute. it's nice to be with an actually good person for once, not just someone who comes off that way at first, then pulls a 180 and shows his ***holery. he's pretty great.

really, i'm the once holding the reins on this, b/c he was in a ltr just 3 months ago, and i'm not sure he's completely over it yet, and i don't want any  blowback from that. for my part, i like that i'm not all googly over him, and can actually think about my own life when i'm not with him--very unusual for me. but that means he fits in there without me having to compromise myself. that, right there is the biggest thing. he accepts everything about me; the weight, the weight loss, the hair issues, my friends, job, personal space, insecurities, dreams, everything. so awesome!!

Sweepie, I love the dresses!  They're so pretty!  I would say wait for a while if you plan on losing weight, though.  The BF's best friend's wife was just telling me over the weekend how when they got married last year she lost 60lbs between buying the dress and the final fitting a week before the wedding.  It was too big a loss to alter it, and even though it hadn't been altered, David's Bridal didn't want to take it back.  She had to go through this whole song and dance with the corporate office and then she had to pick a new dress with a week before she was supposed to get married.  A major headache during an already stressful time.  I agree with Dalma, that you should maybe wait until 2-3 months before the wedding to buy anything.  I'm super excited for you!  I'm sure it'll be a beautiful wedding! :-)

Dalma, that's EXACTLY why I don't want to see the movie or even be seen buying the books... I don't want people to think that I'm trying to recapture my teen years or something!  And McYummy sounds wonderful beyond just being hot!  I'm glad he's not an a-hole! :-)

Thanks for the encouragement, Watchme!  :-)

Okay, so the scale was being extra nice to me today, and I have reason to suspect that next Tuesday when I weigh in again, he won't be nearly so kind, but I saw 164lbs today, and I'm going to rejoice in it while I can! :-)

164? crazy! you have come an incredible way this year, ally!

I had seen that book and wanted to read it at some point.  For some reason lately, I've been all about the paranormal romance.  Dunno why.  But, was incredibly excited when I saw the 3rd book in the Eragon trilogy (well, it was supposed to be a trilogy) was out finally!  Another teen book that some of us adults read.

Ally, you can totally lose 27 lbs by April!!  And omg, 164???  That's craziness!!  Congrats!

Sweepie, I'd say wait a bit until you buy the dress.  Have you tried it on?  That was my favorite part of the whole wedding planning.  I'd say try it on now to make sure it's what you want, then wait to buy it.  David's lets you just pick off of what's on the floor, so you should be perfectly able to wait until you get closer to get it.  I'd talk to the people in April to check to make sure how much time you need.  Oh, and it's very pretty.  You'll look so beautiful!

Dalma, so glad that mcyummy is starting to turn into the right kind of guy and not all of a sudden showing you the hidden nasty side that shouldn't exist.

So I should be working out.  I wound up getting home later tonight.  I had stopped to get groceries for my Thanksgiving dessert (Chocolate Lovers' Cake with a Chocolate glaze and chocolate covered strawberries to decorate...yum for my cheat day!) and also at Walmart.  I need a new set of dumbells cause the ones I have are about to be too light for me.  Well, a set of 20 lbs costs around $40!!  So, I'm debating if instead I should get a set with plates in order to reduce the long term cost.  I mean, 25's will be $50.  So that right there can buy me a set for the black friday price of $70.  Just frustrated that weight loss has to be so expensive.  I know a gym would be better for weights and things, but I know I wouldn't use it, not right now.  And I don't want the contract.  Anyone else get to this problem?

Have a good night everyone!

topeze/liza, that's why i opted for the gym, b/c they got the stuff i'd need as i progress.

omg, it's taking all my willpower to not pick up a chocolate raspberry cheesecake for thanksgiving from the cheescake factory. yummo! but i think i can resist. on my way home i stopped by loehmann's to see if i could fit anything there yet. and i could! not a lot, but some stuff.

there was this calvin klein dress (sz 14) that made me look so skinny! until i turned around, then all you saw was my big ol' booty. my butt also prevented me from fitting this gorgeous carmen marc valvo cocktail dress. oh well, they'll fit perfectly in 20 lbs or so. but i did fit this 14 skirt perfectly! it may sound conceited but i gotta say this: i am getting an incredible body. i couldn't believe i was looking at me in that mirror. seriously! i don't remember being shaped like this!

oh! mcyummy's spending thanksgiving w/ me and my fam. kinda last minute. i thought he was gonna be w/ his parents, but he told me tonight they're gonna be outta town, so i kinda had to invite him over.

wow dalma--thanksgiving?? kinda of fast to already meet the family Wink Just playing, I really didn't expect to hear that yet, lol....took me off guard....Hope everyone is doing good..I'm looking forward to my 4 day weekend and I get off early tomorrow, so that's nice!

boots, please don't make me think it's a big deal! i've been trying to convince myself it's no big, just dinner. i'm totally tryna be casual about it; this means nothing, or so i'm telling myself. i wasn't gonna invite him, but i didn't want him to spend the holiday all alone; how sad would that be?

and yay for 4 day weekends!

ok ok , i'm sorry--i take it back...so sorry ....not a big deal ...Sealed

sweepie - I LOVE the dresses!  I especially love the blue color!!  I would wait a little bit on getting your dress... go ahead and look, but I wouldn't actually BUY it until you are certain what size you will need.  I LOVED planning our wedding... I didn't get to have it exactly how I wanted, but it was beautiful... we got married Sept. 2005... right after Hurricane Katrina (his family lives in south Louisiana... we had just bought a house down there!!!  and the wedding was in north Louisiana!  it was crazy!)  We had to make some cut-backs and weren't able to go on our honeymoon because they were using our cruise ship to house people in New Orleans... but it all worked out and at the end of the day we were still married!!!  I posted a pick of me and my brides' maids and flower girl... it was great!

dani - I also agree, McYummy is a great choice!

ally - congrats on 164!

I'm feeling a little better today, sore throat is better, but my ears are still bothering me!  Stupid sinus stuff and allergies!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!!!!

I think I will wait a little while to buy the dress, just so I know what size to get as it gets closer to the special day. Thanks for the great advise girls! You are all wonderful! But I'll still go to my appointment on January 3rd, and try on a few, see what I like there. The dress that I found online isn't sold in stores, but I could at least get sized at the store, and then order that dress when the time comes if that's the dress I truly want.

Hope everybody has a great Thanksgiving!!!

Edit: added journal entry

Twilight talk - I read the book in 2 days. Couldn't put it down. Lol. I originally bought it because friends of mine loved it and I had read a terrible (but hilarious) review online so I decided I would see what it was all about. When I started I definitely thought I was going to be on the side of the review girl (who said it was teenage, stalkerish, poorly written), but then I found myself getting totally absorbed in it! lol. Just couldn't help myself. I even almost cried at one point. I started the second book today.
I also want to go see the movie, but I've heard that it's horrible from a friend who really loves the books. So now I have to go see it to see if it is actually terrible or not lol. I definitely recommend reading the book first though!

CC talk - I had forgotten how good it feels to make progress. I haven't made much, but I've been counting calories again the last few days, and had a deficit all week, and finally the numbers on the scale have gone down a bit. I think it's just because TOM has ended and I have lost some water weight, but it still feels nice. It's getting me motivated again! I'm definitely hoping to see the 220's by the end of the month.

sweepie - love the dress! It's gorgeous!

dalma - no big deal at all! That is, as long as your family doesn't think it's a big deal.... ?

liza - you'd love Twilight then! Read it! :)

ally -  Have fun with the bf for thanksgiving! And 164 is awesome! Yay!! I definitely think you'll lose those 27lbs by your birthday.

Dalma, I wouldn't worry at all about the boy going with you.  I mean, so what? (although it's cool he's ready to meet the family without freaking out.  My hubby was so cool, I was the one freaking out and nervous for both his and my family)

qt, sounds like you had more than the average amount of problems!!  Although, no wedding goes perfectly.  But that's what make them unique and memorable a lot of times (like the fact that my grandmother got to the wedding 1/2 hour late because they got lost....so, we were all waiting and waiting...then she came down the aisle like a queen waving at everyone)  Just looked at pics, you look so beautiful!  And I love all the dresses.  I love looking back to my pics too...hehe, I have one of myself in my pics.

Sweepie, if you do wait and it has to be ordered, make sure to talk to them about how long it will take to order the dress.  Depending on the dress, it can take 5 or 6 months, based on if it needs to be made or they have it made already.  So, just as long as they tell you the absolute latest you can order it, you'll be fine.

Sonini, grats on the progress again!  And I do plan on reading it at some point when I get the chance.

Looking forward to Thanksgiving.  It's a cheat day, so I know my sat weigh in will be a bit higher (2 cheats days from the prior weigh in).  But the week after will be better since I'll have no cheat days.  I'm sooooo close to fitting into the damn pants, I just need to get into them.  Besides, my current pants are just ridiculous in the waist.  I walk around constantly fussing with them all day long.

Alright have a great Thanksgiving everyone!!

topeze (this is going to take some time to get used to your new name!!!) I checked online at the dress, and there had been peoples' reviews that stated they received the dress within 3-4 days. But I'll definitely be sure to ask somebody at the store. :)

ah, dresses....my wedding dress was order, but there was some mistake, so they had to remake it.  And I ordered it like 6 months before and it got there a little bit late for what I would have liked.  But, you'll figure what's best for you.  It's funny, one of my friends is getting married so I've been talking about dresses in RL too.  The one she picked out we were all like, really, that??  It's a nice dress, but I can't imagine it on her body (she was looking at a style that looks best on tall women...she's lucky if she's 5'1").  She tried it on and didn't like it at all.

And loled at the name...you can all still call me Liza, that's fine.  And the new one is fine too!  I don't know if I said it here, I play games, MMO's.  That's one of my toons names.

So, I'm making this chocolate bundt cake...there is no way I can bake without tasting.  Oh so yummy so far...hope it turns out well!
