Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

Dancing, the first thing I did when I started (besides counting and limiting it to the amount I determined) was started using measuring cups to actaully figure out what 1 serving of cereal is.  Or one tablespoon of peanut butter, especially since it has a ton of cals.  So, sounds like you're off to a great start!

Free, ok, then what about making tea with a substitute sugar and bringing that?  That should be no more expensive than the soda you're drinking.  Haha, or how about diet?  Didn't even cross my mind.  I don't really like soda, so this isn't my calorie challenge.  Now, if we talk about cheese or chocolate...

Sweepie, take care of yourself!  I hope you start feeling better soon!  And the Rememberance Candle sounds really sweet. Smile

Ana, I have had pants that are all but falling off.  That same trip to the store, I actually had worn my size 28 jeans cause all my others were destined for the washer and the pants I wore that day were a bit chilly.  These were easier...well, as I'm walking, I'm pulling it up around the waist all over.  And they fit so poorly, probably looked horrible.  Won't try that again!

Watchme, welcome back!!  And you can totally be wearing a medium next year!  You need to remember how much you've already accomplished and give yourself credit for that.  And you did that all while having what seems to be a fairly stressful year!

Ally, and once you do move in together, you'll find all these things that you automatically do that he just does not do the way you like.  Like putting the toilet paper on the thing.  He doesn't do it.  And when he does, it is always the wrong way.  Stupid, I know, but sooooo irritating.  Just all those random little things that aren't super important but matter enough to get to you.  And then you either get over it, fight over it, or fight over it and come to some sort of compromise.  Eh, just what I've found with hubby.  And yes, I HATE that he squeezes the toothpaste from the middle.  I mean, do you know how irritating it is for me to try to get all the rest of the toothpaste back onto the right end so that we don't waste it?  I know, stupid, but ahhhhhh!

Oh, and the big thing about telling them a story is having a lot of detail worked out beforehand.  Remember 2 truths and a lie?  Well, people never get mine unless they know me well enough to figure out exactly what I would and would not do.  But, I always make the lie something that's not a huge deal but give a lot of detail so people believe it.  So true with life too.  I'm not one to lie, but when I do, I'm good.  Think it goes with the therapist in me...not that I lie to clients, but sometimes, you absolutely have to control whatever emotion is inside of you and not let it bubble out when you are told something.  Because to laugh at certain things would just so not work at all...and I can keep the straight face.

I put an update on the daughter situation in my journal for friends only.  It's the paranoid side of me that doesn't want just anyone to know just in case somebody I know (not likely, i know) finds it and somehow messes up the process.

topeze, I've been doing the same thing! With every meal or snack, I've been getting out the ole' measuring cups or scale to measure ounces of meat or veggies. It's time consuming at first, but it's really helping me determine what the correct serving of food looks like.

Hopefully, I've got food in check. I'm trying awful hard to eat the proper foods, I drink water and water alone, I portion control...I just don't exercise still! I have yet to convince myself that exercise must be a regular thing. I think that mostly stems from my lack of interest in any exercise. Sports don't really interest me because they're too time consuming and I'm always too busy to set aside several hours to golf or play basketball.

And as far as regular exercise goes, I need something that can be done quickly like 15mins-an hour tops, isn't completely draining, is effective, and can have different difficulties as I advance. Preferably something I can do from home. Walking around the neighborhood just annoys me. lol Anyone know anything interesting? I don't have a treadmil or I'd use that...

watchme, glad you're back! You did an awesome job this year, you went down an average of two sizes and you're halfway there. Amazing, congrats!!!

ally, hopefully you'll be able to break off the lease soon. And I agree with boots, you never know a person until you live with them.

dancing, how you considered rope jumping or yoga? You burn tons of cals in rope jumping and is a really short workout, just remember to warm up and start with 30 seconds of nonstop jumping and increase the time gradually.

Went to Sears today and I could wear the normal sizes in the dresses' department! Well the XL and L ones but considering that I could barely fit a XL back in August... :D Still I didn't like that most were halter dresses, I have broad shoulders so halters are hard to use for me. So I went to peruse around the mall and found a really really cute skirt that matches a blouse I have. I checked the size and it was a 16, so I went to try it on but it felt loose  so I asked for a smaller size... I can't remember when I asked for a smaller and not a bigger size. But they didn't have one! So tomorrow I'll be checking more stores but I really liked that skirt, so maybe I'll buy it after all.

Posted new pics in the gallery by the way.

ana, you look amazing! way to go!

watchme, did i miss the journal post? who doesn't love guy drama?!?

so far so good on my detox. as of this morning, i'm back down to my lowest weight, 223, which i haven't seen since november 4th. woohoo!

no boy post yet.  but, i'll post a pic of him ;)

watchme, very cute! and he looks tall; definite plus! hurry up and post something!!

Hi ladies! And hello/welcome to the new girls!

Happy Hump Day!

watchme - I'm here, just been lurking lately! Been posting more on my blog. And I'm still waiting for this journal entry re: the boy! Get'r done!

dalma - nice going with the detox! I wish I had the will-power to actually go through with a detox... I just gotta have the bad stuff haha.

ally - moving in with the bf?! awesome news!! Hope it all works out with the lease and such.

dana - you look great!! sounds like a great Sears shopping experience!

As for me... well, I've been "trying" again the last couple of weeks. Last week I worked on the food, this week I'm attempting to incorporate some exercise into my life again. Just have to keep reminding myself that the elliptical is my friend, and that I always feel so much better when I work out. Did 45 minutes on the elliptical last night, and can kind of feel it in my legs a bit today. Feels great! I'm taking tonight off from exercising and the boy is taking me to a movie, but I will be back at it again tomorrow! I love seeing the scale move down a bit, I'm so close to the 220's!!

he's 6'2"  :)  i think he's hotter than he who shall not be named.  whaddya think?  hahaha.  will write something in the next few hours, i swear!

oops, double post!

hon, he is way, WAY hotter than whatshisface. believe it!

Ally, The ceremony site...oh boy where do I start?! It's amazing looking. Even though it's a small place, it's perfect because we're having a small wedding. I wish I could invite all of you girls on here. If you google Otsego Park Stone Hall, Bowling Green Ohio. You can find it there and see pictures too.  It's a stone hall, so inside and outside the walls are stone, which in a neat sense...inside it looks like the inside of a castle. It also has 2 fireplaces which we plan to have lit if it's not too warm out, and hand candles on the mantles. Then out the back door of the hall, there is a patio and steps that go down to a grassy area, and then the river as well. In September, the parks around here are absolutely beautiful!

Oh gosh, I'm so excited! I CAN'T WAIT!

watchme,  that boy is a hottie!!! you have to tell us more about him ;)

sweepie, the site is gorgeous! I just googled it and it looks simply amazing!

dalma, congrats on  reaching again your lowest weight! yay

sonini, glad you're back in track! You can do it :D

So I told my mom about the Sears experience and she wanted to return there today. She was kind of skeptical that I could actually wear stuff in the "normal" section. So we went there and I tried on a red halter dress and my mom looked surprised since it fitted ok. So I got the dress! even if it is a halter, I look good in it. I will post pictures of it on the weekend.

Dancing, the weighing thing was huge for me.  I've come to realize, I very rarely get full.  And by that, I mean I just don't get that full feeling, I just feel either less hungry or not hungry, but not full.  Every once in a while, but overall, that's how I am.  So, weighing stuff out and allowing myself only a certain amount in the first place was key.  Presized things are good (unless I eat 4 of them!).  But, it amazed me and made me wonder exactly how much I used to eat before the weighing and measuring.

Ana, you're looking great in your pics!!

Watchme, I checked for the post too.  He is hot!!  Not too happy looking in the pics, but some people are that way.  So, McHottie?  And I haven't seen whatshisface, but I know this one is hotter.

Dalma, I respect the detox.  Keep up the good work!

Sweepie, I couldn't see all the pictures, but what I did see looks really pretty.  But, when you get a photographer, I'm going to recommend one that has digital photography, cause a lot of them post the pictures for viewing online with the right login for guests (like all of us!!!) to see.  So, it's like we'll almost be there, sort of.  So excited for you!  I LOVE weddings.  There's all the extra crap that goes with it, but still, love em.

Ok, daughter update.  Basically, we worked out visitation.  It's about the best it can be.  It's alternating Thanksgiving/1st week of Christmas break/2nd week of Christmas break/spring break.  And then 8-10 weeks in the summer.  But, there's no way that's really enough.  It's realistic, but just so totally sucks.  And I'm back to the crying again.  Not like last time, but still, it makes me so sad to even think about.

And so, I looked at what I consider my current weight and my next goal.  I have 10.6 lbs to go to meet that goal by Jan 3rd.  I can totally do this, I just need to get my lazy @ss off the couch.  It's all the stress I tell you.  And the fact that I've been so sad.  But, I did get the dumbells from Sports Authority, which is cool cause I'll be able to add weight as I increase.  I want to try them out, but no point in opening it til I need it.  So, who wants to kick my bum until I start working out way more than I ever had in order to fit into those damn jeans and reach my goal in Jan??  Any takers?  If I don't fit in those pants....grrr.  Here's to Jan 1st people!!

i almost don't want to go with it, but i weighed myself on sunday and i was at 297. i weighed myself a minute or two ago and i'm at 291. my scales always been a bit wonky, but i'm gonna go with it.

free, totally accept that weight.  In April, I was 367 at the dr's office.  I started almost a month later, so I use this as my starting weight.  Well, 10 days after I started counting, I got my scale and weighed in at 348 or so.  So, 10 days, 20 lbs or so.  Granted, I weighed in the middle of the day while sick with the starting weight and in the morning with the other, but still.  In the beginning, you'll drop larger amounts.  I evened out at 10 lbs a month after that and then got lazy and my loss has slowed down (last month was bad for me...2.6 lbs).  But, totally take that weight as the right weight and remember that feeling when you get stuck or aren't dropping like you want to.  It helps to get through the slow times.

i definitely hope it is, my scale is wonky, so i'm skeptical =/

hello all, i'm just lurking today... not feeling too well... almost that TOM!

dalma - congrats on the detox and weight!

watchme -  so what about this boy?!?! :)

sweepie - OMG that place is awesome!!!  absolutely beautiful!  how romantic!!!  i love weddings!  :)

sonini - enjoy your movie!!!!  and congrats on 45 min. on the elliptical!  i'm exhausted after 30!!!!

ana - can't wait to see your new dress!!!

liza - i'm glad the visitation got worked out... and i'm so sorry you're sad and stressed!  you should take those emotions out on your workout equipment!!  you can totally lose 10.6 pounds by Jan. 3rd!  I have to lose about 9 pounds by Jan. to reach my goal (199 pounds), so we can kick each other!!!!  LOL!

free - i hate scales, i always seem to weigh more when i go to the doctor than i do at home... it totally sucks.  and i agree with liza/topeze about remembering that feeling... it's great motivation!!!  do you go to a gym or have somewhere else you could weigh to compare the numbers?

hope everyone is having a great week so far!  i can't believe it's already december... crazy!

Hey, everyone (new and old).  I've been reading about you all over the last several days, but haven't had much to share.

I celebrated Thanksgiving on the beach this year.  We've been going to my husby's coworker's family get together for 3 years now.  It's nice, feels like an adopted family.  We had all the traditional chow, except I skipped the meat (veg still, going on several months).  We built rock people on the sand, hula hooped, made a bonfire, sang songs and played instruments (think Kindergarten where everyone picks one).  The desserts killed me...  I made a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie that everyone begged for the  recipe and a "candy bar" bar with oatmeal, caramel, cashews and chocolate.  YuMmY!  I also indulged in adult beverages.  Someone made an alcoholic drink that tasted like apple pie (whipped cream and all)!  Ok, so enough about the food and drinks, and back to reality.  I gained almost 3 pounds over 2 days, but am finally back to pre-turkey day weight.

I went Black Friday Shopping (first time ever!) at the Disney Store, Target, and a few stores in the mall.  Saturday I put up my tree and Sunday I decorated it.  This is the first tree of my own (almost 10 years since moving after HS).  I think I've tried to ignore Christmas all together, because I didn't want it to be Christmas without my mom and family.  Well, my son is old enough to appreciate it now (almost 3), so I went all out... tree, stockings, pointsettia, angels.  Now I'm HOMESICK as homesick can be.  I haven't felt this bluey blue for a while, and even though I'm happy to be creating traditions for my son, I just don't feel like it's truly going to be Christmas.  Feel free to send some hugs my way...

My goal is to drop 10 pounds by Dec. 30th (the day I leave to visit family).  Anyone want to join my 10 lb. challenge?  I'm also going to pledge a 2-3 mile walk daily.  Any want to match that?  I also need to eat more green things, so do you want to join me in eating 2-3 servings a day?  This is GOING to happen!  Let's do it together!

mladdy((((HUG)))) I know what you mean...This is my 4th year having christmas away from family and this is the 1st year that I really came to terms with it.....I'm not even celebrating christmas this year--but it's a good thing for me. I hope you find some positives in it--your son of course --learning new traditions......

watchme: you said you had a question in your journal about something? didn't see it! I want to wait to post my weight loss until Saturday or Sunday---i'll give an update then 'ok' then it will be 3 weeks on track going on 4.....yay...

Hope everyone else is doing good, sorry I've been very busy, i hope to catch up soon. Today I've been at the job for 1 month now----man time flys by....

mladdy: has going veg helped you lose weight or was it just a personal choice? has it helped you lose weight?

ps. i bet i know whats in that apple pie drink. i tried it a few years ago and i hated it. the lady that made it put way to much cinnamon in it! yuck.
