Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

Count me in on this challenge... I'ma say 20hrs for Jan. I've  done extremely well with working out...(i'm sore as hell from that confusion I created earlier!!).. Usually when I get pissed off, I channel my anger into some form of work out....and I'm a very pissed person majority of the time..LOL..So I might go over 20..

Okay, I guess i'll go do some work or study or something...Work is SLOOWWWW tonight...

Dalma, I love my exercise ball!  I really only use it for crunches, but still, it's awesome.

Ana, good job on resisting.  I still have some left that I haven't thought about.

So, I did work out tonight, about the same amount as before, but down a level or two.  No big deal.  But, back doesn't hurt, so I think I'm good to go.  Although, I did make brownies, so the temptation is there to take what I used to take.  But, only one and I logged it higher than what the box claims it should be.  I've been really hungry lately, think cause I'm going back to my healthy eating.  But, I'm always hungry the day after lifting.  So, I'm thinking that tomorrow I'll be super hungry, which isn't so good.  Lots of healthy snacks.

Happy Hump day everyone!! (I know it's a silly term, but I love being beyond the hump towards Friday and the weekend!)

liza - my hubby and I have a very strict budget.  I have to plan my meals out each week so I know what I need when I go to the store and don't spend too much money!  I agree that it really helps me eat better!  I'm not as tempted to buy junk food if I stick to my list!  Glad your back feeling better and you were able to get your workout!  And I totally agree about hump day... downhill to Friday!

dalma - congrats on the goodies!!!  it's always nice to get presents!

feddie - good job on the walking!!

dana - you are a stronger woman than I am!!!  I admire your ability to eat one piece of candy and get rid of the rest!

cbdat - I do the same thing!  I find some of my best workouts are when I'm mad about something!  :)

I am SO exhausted.  My hubby has been acting as personal trainer this week and has worked me pretty hard!  We go to the gym in the mornings to do weights and a 30 min. walk.  Then I go BACK to the gym after he goes to work and walk/run on the elliptical and treadmill 30 min. each for a total of 60 min.  It's been pretty nice out so we've actually been taking our 30 min. morning walk outside.  I'm just worn out... but I know it will totally be worth it... right?

Day 3 of detox is over... YAY!  Only 3 left...  I have to say I'm very proud of myself.  We went to Walmart today to get more grapefruit and turkey, and as I was standing in the fruit section all I could smell was the fried chicken at the deli.  BUT... all I could think about was how much I wanted to eat some of the fresh pineapple I was looking at!  I was so happy!  I know it may seem a little silly, but for me it was a big step - wanting fresh fruit instead of fried chicken!  LOL!  Anyway, I'll be happy when I can have cereal and milk again.  :)  Mmmmm Captain Crunch!

MMMM captain crunch.. I haven't had that in so long.. All I eat is Special K...

Ash- that work out will pay off girl, when you get tired thats when you push it to the limit! or u can just pass out...lol.. Also, What type of Detox are you doing?

Hello I am new to this site as well, and after the first week of my new years resolution and starting to wonder if this would realyl be the time I actually do it, I have to say finding this site was a big plus.  I am sure that I am ready now.

I am 27, 5'10" and 309, I amlost died when I stepped on the scale saw that my worst fear had happened I hit 300.  NO more!!

My goal is to lose 50 by my birthday in  the end of May or at least by vacation in mid-June, and ultimately I think I would like to be around 160.

Any thoughts from people near my weight/age?  What are you all doing?  I have not started exercise yet other than walking the dogs and the yoga ball at home, one week of coutning calories and Im down 6! (I was 315 on Jan 2) I am eating about 1400 calories a day, and doing good with it so far, but worried it wil not be enough once I get in the gym... I plan to renew my membership next week (payday...lol)

Definitely interested in having some buddies on here to chat and encourage each other!!

Good Luck everyone :)

Thanks for all the welcome backs :) it's really good to be back too!!

Dalma, so often I relate so well to your posts, it's so encouraging!! I too had such a similar year, I was in the 250' not I'm a 14/16 top which is still shocking to me that I fit into a normal size!! Because I definitely still feel huge and have lots of work to do, but I'd love to see a 10 this year too!! It would totally be a dream!  Also every year I look back at the year and think, nothing much changed this year, and this was one of those years were I took a look at myself and thought are you kidding...look at you, look how much you changed!!

Enjoy the new workout stuff...I have a fitness ball at home too...love it, sometimes just sit on it while I watch TV so have to concentrate on sitting up straight and balance and all that...a thing I like to do is lie on my back with my knees at a 90 degree and put the ball between your knees and straighten and bend your knees..you really feel the burn in your thighs, I enjoy that one..:) hope that made sense.

My sister is coming to stay with me for 10 days from tomorrow and she too loves her chocolate and ice cream, she struggles a lot too with weight, but now she is busy at work so things fly a little, so just asked her a favour to please not bring too much into my apt, or leave it around, cos yeah I'm weak when it comes to chocolate or ice cream and I'm so back on track and in the groove and don't want anything to mess that up.

It's so amazing to hear about the people BF's or DH's that are supportive, so often I've seen the other way around, where they just make hurtful comments and don't try to help at all....

Ash, good job on losing the chrismas weight, I think I also finally lost all of my holiday weight...it was closer to 8/9 :(

Welcome to everyone new.

I'm still alive and kicking ladies!!! This wedding planning is really tiring!!! But I've been trying to get to the gym when I can...seems like 1-3 times a week...things are so hectic. I'm so glad that that holidays are finally over! I hope everybody had a great Christmas and New Year. We had our engagement party on New Years Day...Shawn fried a turkey...man that was awesome!!! I made darn sure to stay away from the dark meat and the skin...I only had the breast meat, which I read is only about 70 cals for 2oz. I had maybe 3-3.5 oz at max, but it was really good!!! The left overs I've been cutting up and putting in my salads for dinner. Oh man things have been great. For breakfast I eat 2 hard boiled eggs (NO YOLK) just the whites, and give the yolk to the dogs, and also have 4 oz of 1% milk (or just a bottle of water), and 2 slices of whole grain wheat toast with 1tsp (between the two pieces) of county crock spread with calcium & vitamins. Then I've been having healthy choice meals for lunch. I love those things!!! Then have the salad for dinner when I get home from the gym or just home from work.

Last Saturday I went dress shopping and found my perfect dress...and funny enough, it's not the dress that I picked out originally. I picked different bridesmaids dresses to, I'll have to get you guys the pictures soon!!!

Shawn has started dieting with me, he wants to bulk up muscle wise, and lose his belly fat. He meets with his trainer (a close family friend who owns a co-ed gym and is the trainer there) 3 times a week to start with and then will get up to meeting with him 6 days a week. He says he's been pretty sore, but I keep telling him to drink more water and eat more proteins. So he's been eating tuna, shrimp, and hard boiled eggs plus his salads too and lots of water (he can't drink plain water, he has to put those flavor packets in them) which is fine. To each their own right?

But in the last week he's gone from 209 to 203.5. In the last week I've gone from 244/245ish to 241. I haven't gained any weight from the holidays...Thank goodness. Somehow I've managed to watch what I ate carefully.

But back to my dress, I tried on 5 dresses total that day, felt good in 2 of them...but my #3 dress was the dress that I chose. I think I tried that one on at least 3 times. The final time coming out of the dressing room, my mom, my future mother in law and one of my bridesmaids started to cry. I looked in the mirror and started to cry a little bit myself. I knew then, that was the dress. We had alot of fun. What's even better (to a point) the dress fit me perfectly....right now it doesn't need any alterations whatsoever. But I do know of a reasonably priced seamstress incase I do need it taken in before the wedding. WAHOO!!!

I then treated them to Applebee's for lunch...I was a bit bad, ordered the smothered chicken...man they really loaded that up with veggies!!! But that's fine, I love veggies. I only had 2 pieces of toast that morning for breakfast and by 2pm I was starving!!! I thought my stomach was going to cave in. Had a light dinner that night....salad with "taco" chicken on it.

I think we're going to come in under budget for our wedding. Still have to price a few things out yet, but so far everything is going great!

Hope you are all doing well. Take care.

I'll try not to stay away so long from now on. I'll keep y'all posted on the weight loss progress.

hi everyone :)  work has been really busy and i haven't been doing too well exercise wise, eating has been at maintenance with the occasional 500 cal deficit day.  still trying to get used to being back at home and need to get groceries still.  the damned snow and living in a city (as opposed to the burbs) makes that an even more tedious task.  argh!  just wanted to check in and say "hi" to everyone though.  will journal post eventually.  SO much to tell since like dec 22nd onwards.

fayny, i am so there with you! ALL my extra weight is chocolate and ice cream! (and mac & cheese Laughing) and the ball is awesome! i've been using the one at the gym for a month or so now, so i was already in love w/ it. i have a few exercises i do with it that are hard as hell, but now i can do them at home while i'm watching cartoons (that's pretty much all i've been watching lately. don't ask why....). and it is great to hear about so many SOs being supportive. you're right; it usually is the other way around.

sweeps, when can we see a picture?

hey, watchme! journal already! i wanna hear what happened!

dalma, Go to davidsbridal.com and put in style #9T8076, that's my dress that I bought.

Style #F13287 is the bridesmaids dress in Marine

Style #S1038 is the flower girl's dress with a Marine sash.

sweepie, those dresses are gorge! and i like how you and the bridesmaids are both wearing sleeveless dresses. AND that you didn't put them in something ugly! why do some women purposely screw up the look of their wedding by choosing nasty frocks for their wedding party? those kind of chicks are nuts. and probably get divorced a few years after their dumb-looking weddings.

What type of Detox are you doing?

Well, I found a book at the library "6 day body makeover" it's from the same guy that does the "6 week body makeover"... the purpose of what this guy wants you to do is lose a lot of water weight over 6 days because you very little if any sodium.  BUT... we are just using it kind of as a guide... there is a meal plan and grocery list.  Ultimately, we're eating baked turkey and chicken, canned tuna, rice, GREEN veggies, grapefruit and berries.  No pasta, bread, or sugar... just splenda.  We are only going to do it a week and then we will slowly add things back into our diet, but trying to get all of those cravings for junk food out of my system.  I don't know how much of a "detox" it is, but so far so good!

hey ladies!

today I had a great lunch. Salad, vegetables, a lot of salsa (I love it) and a little piece of chicken and a little bit of rice. I think I'm starting to really respect food and not eat just to eat but to eat for the pleasure of it. Knowing that you can only eat a certain quantity forces you to slow down and simply enjoy a good meal.

cbdat, it's great that you channel your emotions through exercise. I can't do that yet (at least conciously) but at least exercise improves my mood.

topeze, I'm hungry just after lifting weights. I hear my stomach loud and clear which is funny.

qtpie, congrats on now craving fruit! It's a good sign that your body is adjusting for the healthier stuff. And Captain Crunch is yummy... but still I rather have healthy cereal + snack than just a bowl of cereal.

hi, scrlet! I find that 1400 is too little calories for you. It may help you to lose weight quickly in the first days but then it will slow down and you will start hitting plateaus. I recommend you to check out the calorie calculator available. And drink plenty of water! If you don't like water you can mix it with flavor packets. That helped me until I got used to drink plain water again :) Good luck!

fayny, congrats on losing the christmas weight!

sweepie, good to see you! Loved the dresses, they're amazing! And I think you're a great dieter as well, it's great that Shawn is joining the healthy club as well. Keep us updated.

watchme, SO much to tell? that sound mysterious... I hope you journal about that mystery soon!

dalma, if your weight is all chocolate and ice cream, mine is chocolate and chips (lol). I also watch tv while I workout, it feels shorter and less exhausting ;)

welcome scrlet!

fay - good luck with your sister!  i'm sure she will be supportive of your efforts!

sweepie - congrats on the dress!!!!!  absolutely beautiful!!!!

hi watchme!

Hi everyone!

Ash, When I go to the gym what I do really depends on my mood, lol!  I'm not very consistent because I get bored so easily!  The only thing that I always do is weight training since it helps me so much.  I usually do squats, lunges or single leg squats, deadlifts, dips or rows, benchpress, shoulder press and some other arm exercise.  After 30-35 minutes of lifting, I do 10-15 minutes of abs if I feel up to it.  Otherwise I go straight to the cardio, usually just whatever machine's open, but my usual order of preference goes treadmill, elliptical, stair stepper (the one that looks like a mini-escalator), then MAYBE the stationary bike if it's the only thing open.  I pretty much hate them, though, so I'll usually wait around for anything else to be open if I have time.  If I happen to hit the gym two days in a row, then the second day will be all cardio.  I'll usually do 30-45 minutes on two different machines, or HIIT on the bike or the elliptical followed by 40 minutes on some other machine.  And probably once a week I sub in an aerobics class for one of my cardios.  I'm especially partial to kickboxing, but there's a new hip-hop class that looks like fun, and I'm still trying to work up the nerve to try spinning.  I hate step with a passion, so I'll never do that, though.  In general, the course of my workout is decided as I'm working out.  And yay for SOs being supportive!  I wish mine would go to the gym with me, let alone work me out like yours does!  Lucky girl! :-)

Liza/Topeze, I'm glad you got to talk to your daughter!  I'm sure April will be here in no time!  And as far as the BF goes, he eats junk food all the time, but he definitely DOES gain weight, and I know it's wearing on him.  I'm hoping he sees some results and keeps with it! Thanks for the encouragement, and I'm so glad your back is doing better!  Oh, and I often log things higher than they probably are, just because I'm sure there are things I eat that actually have more cals in them than the packaging says.  In the end, I think it evens out. :-)

Dalma, Jay sounds super sweet!  Yay for good gifts!  And it's funny, but as much as I love chocolate, all my weight is pasta, vodka and deep-fried anythings!

Hi Feddie!  Way to go with the walking!  Keep up the good work!

Ana, good job getting rid of the candy!  I'm sure the clients will enjoy it!  I've found that the work place is the BEST way to get rid of excess goodies... If your co-workers are anything like mine, anything bad is gone in less than 3 hours, lol! :-)

Cbdat, I'll add you to the challenge list!

Welcome, scrletbgnias! I agree with Ana that 1400 is probably a little low for you... You might want to up the cals just a little, or at least cycle calories a little higher, a few days a week. :-)

Sweepie, congrats on picking a dress!  It's beautiful!  And I love the bridesmaids' dresses too!  Your wedding is going to be SO gorgeous! :-)

Watchme, where's this journal?  Inquiring minds are DYING to hear the news! :-)

As for me, I'm finding it hard to keep a deficit everyday.  My body just likes to have around 1400-1500 calories a day, and something as small as a skinny cow bar can push my cals about to maintenance (1750ish).  My goal has been 1200 cals a day to keep a 500 calorie deficit everyday, but it's just NOT happening.  I get so hungry, that I can't help but to give in and snack.  It's usually healthy, but a calorie is a calorie.  I can't get to the gym any more than I already do without killing myself or my social life, and as a result, I'm worried that I'm going to permanently plateau at 160ish, and never be able to reach my goal.  I know that the last 20 is supposed to be the hardest, but jeez... This sucks.  I think I'm going to get Jillian Michael's 30 day shred and do that every morning before work since I've heard that each work out is only 20 minutes long (although super hardcore), and I can fit that into my schedule easily.  I'm hoping that adding in that additional 100 minutes of exercise and expanding my weekend work outs to 2.5 hours each day will help the scale move, but keep my body from feeling too beat up, especially my knees.  *sigh*  I know I'm being a little premature, as we're only about a week into the new year, but I feel like nothing I'm doing is really working and it's frustrating.  Grr... I guess I'll wait and see what the scale says next week before I fully freak out. :-/

Happy Thursday, ladies! :-)

i'm sorry i haven't journaled but work is crazy.  journal will probably have to wait til sunday now, i think.  but, omg, please, my life is so boring compared to you all so really, it's nothing major.  and nothing to do with BOYS :P

qt, I never got into Captain Crunch original....I love the Peanut Butter Captain Crunch.  Don't remember when I had it last.  I'm sure it hasn't been on sale and I refuse to pay more than $2 per box (when averaged if it's a buy one get one).  Probably a good thing.  Yum, now I want some.  And I'm sure you'll see good results from this.  Get rid of the munchies bug!

Welcome scarlet!  I'm 5'8" and right under 300 lbs.  I started with a final goal weight of 180 since that seemed about doable.  But, I've since dropped it to 165, the highest healthy BMI.  From there I'll figure it out.  We're all different though.  I think that since we're all working out and lifting, we'll have more muscle than the average chick which means that we'll look smaller than we are at higher weights.  And I'm alright with that!  Definitely eat those calories back when you work out.  I find that if I don't, it's so much harder to control my eating the following day because I'm so hungry.

Fay, gl with the sister.  Sounds like she's amenable to the healthier eating...maybe you'll rub off on her instead of her junk getting to you!  And enjoy the time!

Sweepie, love the dresses!!!  Although, I will admit that your dress reminds me of mine and the flower girl dress is just like the one my daughter wore.  Actually, might be the same basic one since we got hers there too.  And woohoo to Shawn dieting with you!  I don't know if I could have done this if hubby didn't start it with me.  Granted, I'm trying way harder and have a lot more to lose (one of my goals will be to go under his weight), but still, less snacks overall and other crap.  And wow, you're practically in the 230s!

Yay!  WB watchme!  Can't wait to read the journal!

Dalma, I've had one of those ugly dresses!  The color washed me out, it had flutter sleeves (and you can see my hideous arms!), and the seamstress messed up the dress and forgot to take it in on one spot so my boobs looked pointy cause of the extra material.  My sister did one that had a separate top and bottom.  I always wanted to wear the top again, but it didn't fit.  And now it's too big.  For my girls, I did separates and let them pick (to a point) the tops out.  Partly so they could wear it again if they wanted to.  Hehe, I saw one or two pics of hubby's first wedding, omg...the dresses were so 80s!  And in jewel tones of purple, pink, and some other color.  So the divorced comment made me laugh!

Dalma and Ana, if ya'll are chocolate and chips or ice cream, mine is chocolate and cheese, lol.

And I was right, today I'm fairly hungry.  I think I'm eating less early in the day so I'm getting hungrier for dinner earlier.  And when I get home, I start to munch.  I just need to have healthy things ready for that.  Unfortunately, I'm having difficulty having only a few nuts.  I don't think I can do just a little bit, so it winds up being a much larger serving.  I'm amazed sometimes how things I used to eat are so incredibly bad for you!  And woohoo!!!  Friday's tomorrow!!

so much going on! I can't catch up..but I do have my computer back and it's working! I'll check in more later, I'm off to the elliptical.................

this has nothing to do with anything, like at all, but jay sent me a picture of him from a few years ago. he still looks basically the same, but in the photo he's like, insanely, ridculously, ludicrously hot. so i posted it to show off his insane hotness. enjoy! Laughing

I stepped on the scale this morning and....

Drum roll please.......

239.5!!!!!

I was way excited when I saw that this morning...it's Friday...payday...and a good weight day!!! YAY!!!

YAY!!! I'm on the right track again!!! I skipped my HB egg whites & toast this morning and just had some fresh cut fruit (pineapple, melons, grapes & strawberries). I brought a big bowl in to work for a co-workers b-day. I can't stay away from it. It's so yummy.

Had a salad last night with pan grilled chicken last night...oh so yummy!!! greek vinegrette dressing, fresh tomatoes, HB egg whites, and chopped green onions and a few kalamata olives (my fav), washed the salad down with a glass of milk. But had tons of water yesterday to help wash the salt away. And still drinking tons of water this morning.

Happy Friday Ladies!!!!
