Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

Happy Monday, ladies!

Everyone post their workout challenge totals so far, and I'll post a comprehensive list tomorrow!

Dalma, I'm lovin' the old school pic!  Way cute! :-)

Sweepie, did you end up having the bridal make-over?  I hope you did!  It would be a bummer if you had to cancel it. :-/

Welcome Akela! I agree with the other girls that LCs are a good starting place, but over time I've found it to be heathier, tastier and more cost efficient to learn to cook healthy meals for myself.  I grew up on LCs, as my mom wasn't a huge cook, so I tend to stay away from them now, lol!  They're definitely not a waste of time, though!  Also, what I did with my BF before he joined me in healthier eating was to make a "normal" meal, but find ways to make it healthier, and change the sides/toppings I put on mine.  Like, I'd make tacos with super lean beef and 2% cheese (he won't know the difference!) and make myself a taco salad with salsa as the dressing, while he ate his tacos.  One meal, two variations, and no extra calories in my day! It's way easier if you can find ways to work with the meals you're already cooking! Good luck! :-)

scrletbgnias, how did the shred go?  I've heard great things about it, and I've been knocking around the idea of getting it myself, so I'm super curious as to what you thought about it!  Let us know! :-)

Boots, way to go on the 10 hours!  I'm only at a little over 4.5... Guess I better kick it up a notch, eh? Keep up the good work, chica!

Ana, those cupcakes sound delicious!  I might just have to try those! :-)

Ash, good luck on house shopping!  That's so exciting!  And really, don't be bummed about losing your free gym... I've found that the aerobics classes at my gym are what have saved me from boredom, and made me keep working out.  Plus, once you start getting to know people in your classes, there's a kind of accountability that comes into play, and helps keep you motivated.  It's good stuff!  As far as my deficit goes, I'm definitely including exercise... I think I'm just at a plateau of some sort.  It especially sucks because usually right after I come back from a period of slacking off on eating well/exercising, I lose 1-2 lbs water weight and another 1-2lbs of fat right off the bat.  This time, not so much.  Oh well...

So after this last week or so of eating well, the BF has lost 10lbs!  Which is awesome!  I'm so, so proud of him, and happy for him!  As for me, I worked out for almost 2 hours each Saturday and Sunday, and have had huge deficits everyday since Friday, and even though the scale only rewarded me with a 1lb loss (I'm back at 164), I have more energy, and I'm feeling more positive, so that's a good thing.  I figured out that I was eating a ton last week because I was PMSing, so hopefully when TOM is gone, I'll get even better numbers on the scale.  I just really, really want to see 161lbs again!  164 isn't that different, I know, but I'm dying to be in the 150s!  Oh, and in even better news, I started running again this weekend, and so far, the knees are doing pretty well!  I'm trying to keep myself healthy so I'm only going to do it Saturdays and Sundays, but I'm hoping that having something I look forward to so much will keep my butt in the gym on a permanent basis!

Have a great evening, ladies! :-)

Whine time: I'm new, so I'm sorry to do this, but I need to, today.

Last Monday I started my light (for now, starting out) exercise program. Did 30 minutes of aerobic stuff. Was excited to be getting started on something.

And then I fell-down last Monday evening... Nothing horrid just stepped wrong on some poor quality concrete. Hurt my ankle (which I turned as I fell) and my left elbow (where I landed my 260 pounds) quite a bit. So I was in a lot of pain last week and it kind of shot everything to heck for a few days. But I was feeling well enough to go walking Saturday. Nothing too strenuous, and I'm not sure what's happened to me (physically) but I've done two 30 minutes sets of walking in the last two days and the way my body feels, you'd think I'd done something impressive. I can barely walk.

I will be glad when my body gets used to this new life-style. I think my hunger is 95% psychological, but I'm trying to be fair about my body not being used to any of this, either. Maybe once I get a little more situated, I won't feel like such a grump. I sure hope so.

hey ladies!

well today I indulged myself and I ate a cup of sweet potatoes with syrup. I didn't ruin my day, but I felt so pressured to just give up and overpass the limit. I guess my trigger foods still work after all!

ally, congrats on the weight loss! you're such an inspiration. And congrats on the BF weight loss as well :)

akela, exercising for the first time hurts like hell afterwards. I thought I was over that but then I tried weight lifting last week and it was painful too. Muscle fibers have to get used to the work I guess, and they do after a while. I did my lifting today and it doesn't hurt at all. Remember to warm up before doing your walks and stretch your muscles. My warm up is to twist each foot for 20 times (10 inward direction, 10 outward). Then I try to reach my toes for about ten seconds (do not force yourself to reach them) and then I start a five minute warm up walk, starting from 0 velocity to the velocity of the rest of the walk. After the exercise I do a warm down walk and that's it.

Ally: yeah I had to cancel due to the weather, we got 5 inches of snow just on Friday alone...and then another 3 inches on Saturday. Most of the girls were coming from about 20 miles away, so I needed to think of them, and didn't want them driving in the horrible weather. I'm going to reschedule it though for sometime in February as the rest of this month is booked.

Shawn and I sat in on Saturday night (he got off work early) and made homemade semi-healthy pizza...the only unhealthy things on it were the cheese, crust. While he was at work, I browned up some ground turkey and sprinkled italian seasoning in it for flavor, ended up making it taste like sausage, it was really good. cooked up some turkey bacon and crumbled that up. cut up some green peppers, black olives, mushrooms, and onions. Man that pizza was really good. We cheated with the crust and used the pillsbury pizza crust that you just put onto the pan. Brushed that with olive oil to help make it golden, and then sprinkled a little italian seasoning it for added flavor. We made it onto one of our cookie sheet pans so it was a rectangle pizza (i get tired of round pizza!) so our slices were little squares about 3". Then we got really bad and made some cheesy garlic bread. Used our country crock spread, 1 tsp minced garlic and melted that in the microwave, then brushed it on the crust, and then baked in the oven, and about 5 minutes before it was done, we took it out and topped with cheese...I was so bad this weekend!!!!

I'm up to 241.5...grr...that makes me so mad! It's my own fault though.

We went to a bridal show on Sunday, and were tasting some of the cake samples that they had out so we could get an idea of what kind of cake we would like...I think I had maybe 3 1" squares of cake...but I'm still mad at myself for that. Then went to my parents' house for dinner that afternoon and had pork loin roast, with mixed veggies (unsalted- I hate salt!), and some garlic red potatoes (had some other seasonings on it too). It was so good, I know I had more than what I should have.

But I still went to the gym yesterday and worked out for about 30 minutes, I started getting a headache while I was on the treadmill so I had to stop & skip doing my weights. But Monday morning back to the normal routine, 2 HB eggs & 2 slices of toast for breakfast, progresso light soup for lunch....failed at dinner had 2 slices of left over pizza and 1 small slice of cheesy garlic bread, with 1 cup of milk. Try again tonight...salad for dinner.

Back to the gym after work today, I'm really going to push myself hard tonight. I hope the weather doesn't ruin it though. We're supposed to get more snow today about 1-3 inches and another 2-4 inches tomorrow. BLAH! I actually want to work out so hard that it hurts...I want to feel the burn...no pain, no gain or loss however you see fit. I will do it as a punishment to myself for gaining over the weekend....eventhough I had tons of water to help with the salt (cheese & crust) of the pizza.

hi all!

i've been busy @ work (so wierd for me!) so i only have a second to pop in and list my exercise hours: 4.5 hours. that's 270 minutes, right? b/c i've been counting by minutes. see you guys soon!

iwilldoit2

I am in Elmira, right on the border of NY/PA about middle of the state.  The shoveling is a pain, but what a work out and its free and productive, so while I bitch about it, i'll take it :)

When I get home from the grocery store I tag any items that I havent already, and Im seperating and weighing my chicken, then freezing them in individual portions so I know Im getting my 6 oz or whatever it may be but its ready to go when Im ready to cook.  Also stuff like rice and pasta(whole wheat) I open the container and weigh out the whole box into servings before hand so again I can pull out a baggie and know what Im gonna end up with.  Im trying to stick to more fresh than frozen/canned/packaged veggies, but green giant makes these steamer packs, and health blends that are awesome and perfect to take to work, or when I just want dinner to be done in 3 minutes.  Also Im not a vegetarian but Im a big fan of morningstar stuff, the spicy black bean burgers are delish :)

Also yesterday was day 3 of the shred and wow, Im hurting but in a totally good way.  I think its definitely hard, but do-able and effective, Ill keep everyone updated...and anyone whos done it how long did it take you to up levels and what were your results?

hey ladies!

Today was my weekly weigh-in and guess what? I'm a pound down ! I'm only one pound away from my lowest in CC. I guess my body has finally adapted to my new exercise routine.

Yesterday my parents called me "skinny", lol. I used to be the biggest in size of the family now I'm almost the smallest (just behind my big brother, the athletic bunny). And it feels good :).

sweepie, I'm sorry you had to reschedule :( BTW your garlic bread sounds awesome... I love garlic bread and garlic rolls, I haven't tried them with cheese on the top and haven't had one in months :0. If you can't make it to the gym, try rope jumping and flexibility exercises so you don't lose the practice.

nice to see you dalma! we miss you!

scrlet, way to go with the portion control and the shred! I haven't tried the shred but I read somewhere in the fitness forum that results starts after 2 weeks.

hi, work is nuts.  i'm not gonna be around for a while it seems.  do need to journal about something though (still, i know i said i'd get to it on sunday but i haven't really even had time to shower -- i know, ew, tmi.)

ok, so i cannot really talk but just wanted to say "hi" and let you know i skimmed a bit to keep up.

also, ally, 3.5 hours for me.  will try to get in some exercise tomorrow and thursday evening.  did i put myself down for 20 hours or 25 hours this month?  i'm way off either way, i know.

unlimitedana- Congrats, hon! That's awesome. I've only been good for about a week and two days but it'd sure be nice to see a pound or five come off! I'm jealous, but happy for you. *hug*

scrletbgnias- That's a good idea on pre-measuring stuff... Would make the meal seem "faster" I'm sure! Right now, since I cook for me and the beau it seems easier to do the measuring after everything's cooked, but I can sure see your method having merits!

We have GOT to get a kitchen scale. I miss cheese, but I refuse to have any until I know EXACTLY how much I'm ingesting! It's so unhealthy.

Got to do baby gym with the tot... See you all soon!!

hey ally...so far this month im at 10 hours / 600 minutes. thanks for keeping track for everyone!

i did about 6 hours of exercise last week!

scarlet- I just moved from Rochester about a year and a half ago.  I really miss it but I DON'T miss the snow!  That is the worst part about NYS!  I grew up south of Buffalo in Salamanca and my family still lives near there in Machias.  I know of Elmira so I am sure you are getting all the snow they are too!

That is a really good idea about pre-measureing stuff.  I don't know if I have that much patience!  When I am done grocery shopping and carrying all that stuff up the stairs and unloading it, I don't want to even look at food!  But I bet it comes in handy when it's time to cook like akela said!  Do you think that frozen veggies are still ok?  That is what I eat cause they are already prepared they just need to be steamed.

buxom & qt- good job on the exercise!

Unlimited-good luck on that next pound to get to your lowest cc weight!

Akela, hubby has been eating much better since I started this.  He actually was the one who started it and I joined him.  But, he just cuts out certain things and loses.  I wish.  But, I don't think guys always get how important weight is to us.  They have different issues.  Some are the same, but they are much more solvers.  Women are better listeners and commiserate more.  Generalizing of course.  Oh, and about the being hungry...the first week or two, I felt so hungry almost all the time.  It got so much better after that initial shock.  So, it will improve.

Ally, glad to hear the bf is seeing great results!  I think that helps motivate you in the beginning.  And it will make it so much easier for you, I bet.  And better for his health and your mental well being where it concerns him in the long run, lol.

Sweepie, sorry you had to put off your thing until Feb.  But, I'm sure it will still be a blast.  And eh, we all have those weekends at some point.  But, you're making today count.  So that's that.

Watchme, good to hear from you, even if only in passing!

iwilldoit, I use frozen veggies all the time.  I prefer fresh if available, but sometimes, it's just not as convenient.  So, peas are a frozen thing for me.  Never really thought of it as a bad thing unless it came with more than just the veggie...sometimes they'll have those sauces.

Welcome Johanna!

Biggest Loser Fans...omg, can we just vote off Joelle?  Did she really think that she was working out hard?  Does she not realize that everyone else is right around her weight too?  I feel bad that Jerry had to go home, but I'm glad that they picked Daniel.

So, I tried on one of my goal clothes...the Levi's I bought fit!  This is the first time in my life I've fit into Levi's.  Sounds kinda of stupid, but it's just such a common everyday jean that like everyone but my fat @ss has...until now!!

I dont think theres a lot of difference between frozen and fresh, I use a lot of frozen too, but have been trying to do as much fresh as possible and as much organic as possible also.  I am tryign to avoid canned because of sodium and whatnot.  From what Ive read frozen is just as good as fresh, I used to only buy frozen becuase chances were that I didnt use half my produce before it went bad so frozen was easy, but now Im so allover the veggies that nothing is going bad, in fact Im underbuying, so thats a definite plus.  I cant get enough brussel sprouts although that not a new thing Ive always loved brussell sprouts and asparagus, Im just not using butter on them any more LOL

The preportioning is working for me, and Im hoping to keep it up, granted this trend may not continue but for the time being my grocery days tend to be cleaning organizing days anyway and we've been basically snowed in here so aparently I have free time on the weekend :)  Now during the week when Im up at six and emails are blowing my phone up by 7 before Ive even left the door there is no chance of measuring or weighing.  This also means if Ive not packed the night before I will eat whatever horrifying take out someone in the office orders come 3 o'clock when Im starving, then eat again at 8 or so when I get home - usually whatevers quick and easy(read horrible for you) that is if I didnt hit a drive thru on the way.  So that is the motivation to spend 2 or 3 hours once a week getting it figured out, and a lot of the stuff Im eating for lunch or at work is on repeat where I can just kind of scan the frige and grab 3 or 4 things that I know are ok and wont blow my day.  I save the special stuff and creativity for dinner.

iwilldoit2:  I love Rochester, I have a lot of family there, and both my brothers went to college there.  Salamanca I know nothing about other that the new(ish?) casino, but my company has an office down that way in wellsville (which Ive never been to) so those names sound familiar.

morning!

i meant to say, welcome to all the new girls!

also, way to go w/ the levi's, liza!

also also, i've finally started losing weight again! i've achieved a new low, 222.8. and it only took two and a half months to lose almost a pound! i think what did it was cutting back on the strength training and upping the intensity of my cardio.

but i didn't entirely cut back on the strength training on purpose; i re-injured an injury from november 2007 that never really healed, and it was too painful to do lower body strength training. i still feel a little guilty for not going full body anymore, b/c i totally see results from what i was doing.

like watchme, people who've seen me in the last few weeks can't stop talking about how much weight i've lost even though i've basically weighed the same since october.

also, the loose skin isn't as bad as i thought it'd be by this point. i think some of it was more loose fat with just a bit of loose skin on top of it. but i still have 72ish pounds to lose, so i'll see what i look like once i get to goal.

about to journal my heart out.

okay, just finished parts 1 and 2.  part 3 (and possibly a part 4) to come shortly for the core.

part 3 done.  part 4 to come.  i feel like this is spewing out of me.  hard to explain.  like as i'm writing, i'm lifting this incredible burden off my mind, head, shoulders, etc.
