Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

I'm trying to think in terms of 10 pound per month increments. Unfortunately, I seem to have stopped at a six pound loss and haven't lost anything for two weeks. It's really frustrating! I am trying to watch what I eat as much as possible, but when you're a broke college student that can be difficult. I haven't had the money to go grocery shopping for a long while now, and so I have to rely on what is in the cafeteria. However, I always try my best to make healthy choices there. Like cottage cheese and fruit for dessert instead of a cookie. :)

I think my problem is that I don't exercise enough. I just sorta work out whenever, which usually ends up only being about 45 minutes once a week. It's really tough for me to get motivated. I also have a hard time knowing what to do once I get to the gym. I know I should do weights and cardio, but the weight room is so intimidating. I bought some 3 pound weights so that I can do that portion in my room, and I also have pilates and tae bo on tape. What do you guys do to get motivated to work out?

Hi Amy!

I actually think I may have it a plateau now too. Boo! I lost 4.7 pounds from Thursday to Monday, and no weight since.

I have tried Yoga once, and I really did like it! My friend and I had a fee one month pass to the gym and so we went to Yoga every Monday. It was really difficult for me at first, but I definately noticed some results, especially in my midsection so you should give it a try!

dalmalama- Thanks for the posts about deficients.  I need to look at the simple picture and not try to get caught up in worrying myself about it.  I personally think 1200 is just not enough for me, so I just try to burn up about 600 cals exercising a day and up my intake to between 1600-1800.
Hello, everyone! Just wanted to check in!

I am having a bad week! I came down with strep last week and then this week I seem to be stalled at 298-299 lbs!

It is disheartening to look at the scale and it not move; logically I know it is because my body is healing and I did not exercise for 1 1/2 weeks! But still!!!!!

A girl's gotta vent once and a while! and with all this deficiet talk I am more confused than ever! I exercise and eat good but I do not count my calories or log my exercise, so I have no clue about any of that! For me counting calories would never work, been there done that!

Hopefully everyone is having a better day than me, I am just down in the dumps.

Well tomorrow is a new day!!!! :)

elfkittie22- I remember my favorite exercise in college was kick boxing.  There was an upper class-man on my floor who was going for an exercise science major, and just loved to exercise in general.  She led about 20 of us with really upbeat music, moves that were adaptable to your own level, and lots of encouragement and praise for even trying it.  Maybe you could find someone with interests like that and lead a group of gals on campus??  Otherwise I would just find a friend that needs, or even doesn't need, to lose weight that you can talk with while you leisurely walk together.  I get together with 2 such friends and separate times, and I don't even really know I'm exercising since we just talk the whole time.

ennazus520, aflowler8 and elfkittie22-  I'm sorry to hear that you've hit plateaus.  I've read some forums that say to evaluate what you're eating (plenty of fiber and protein).  Maybe your body just needs a break from the work it's been doing?  Could you eat at a maintenance intake for a week and then go back to having a healthy deficient?  I've heard that this works wonders (and doesn't cause you to gain), though I don't have any first hand experience (This is what I have planned if and when I reach that wall).  Just be sure that you don't try to up your deficient, as this will cause your metabolism to slow even more.

kelcie05- Your baby (and you) are gorgeous!  She has such a cheeky smile and bright eyes!  What's her name?

tgegogeine- I'm sorry to hear that you've been under the weather.  I'm sure that with all your body is going through - healing from illness and adjusting from exercise/eating - it's just a little confused.  Just stick in there and it'll be back on track soon.

Thanks for the advice mladdy! But I think that, simply because I've only been at this a month or so, my plateau is due to lack of exercise. I'll try upping that and see what happens. :)

Don't be so down. I am sure that it is just the getting over being sick that is holding you back. Unlike me, I don't have any excuses! Anyhow, I once read that your body needs more calories when you are sick. Something about how it stores everything instead of burning it, but if you shock your system and take in say an extra 300-500 calories for a day or so you will start burning them at your usual rate again. Good luck!

I would just like to say that I LOVE grilled asparagus. YUM. And organic chicken feta and spinich sausages aren't bad, either!

Hope you ladies are all doing well this evening. Good luck for tomorrow!

Hey all! I hope everyone is doing well. I'm getting back to my regular exercise regime. I slacked it the last week and a half because of the stupid flu! Although, I did do a kickboxing class last thursday (yeah I'm crazy).

Good luck to everyone on their weight loss journey!!

<3 Jenn

Hi to everyone! This is such a good forum like many of you I was a bit fed up with all the 130-ers thinking they needed to lose more... Um well I'm 26 5'6" SW260 CW253, this is the heaviest I have ever EVER been!  I use to stay around 218 then I lost weight and got down to my lightest of 177 then got married and shot up to this catastrophoric weight over the last two years.  Sigh losing it this time isn't as easy as it was last time for a lot of reasons.  I like reading everyone's stories and successes and everything very encouraging and all that well, toodles.

Hello to all the ladies on a mission! I justweighed myself and I weigh 220.9 which is down from my starting weight of 233.7 on Jan 1st! I am so happy. This month has been full of ups and downs. I have learned alot about myself and my health. I hope I can keep this up. Smile

angiecakes- That's awesome!  Nearly 13 pounds in a month is quite a feat!  Are you exercising along with counting?  If so, what are you doing?  I KNOW you can keep this up (hope, ha ha)!  Laughing

Where do you get your sausages?  What's the nutrition content?  They sound interesting.

Hey all, I need to reallllly stop doing 3 posts in a row and just including everything to all individuals, I know. I'll work on that! Undecided

elfkittie22- A little exercise does the body good. Smile  I apologize if I came across sounding like a "know-it-all" before; I'm faaaar from it!  If I could give you a tiny bit of advice about starting to up the exercise, don't push yourself.  Man, my knees and legs are killing from Monday's 1000 cal burn (I think the 20 mins. of treadmill jogging is what did it.).  I'm going to fore-go jogging until I am either closer to my goal weight or on some super cushy, shock absorbent surface. Frown

Jenn- Glad to have you back in the exercising ranks! I'm glad you've been able to shake that bug. It's good to listen to your body and take breaks when you need them.

ceeceem- Nice to meet you! I read your bio, and you seem like a really cute gal. How's that Aussie hubby treating you? Is it hard to live away from your family like that? My husband has beaten around the bush about someday moving to his home country, but I can't see myself doing it anytime soon. I already feel displaced in California! Is your pic from your wedding? You have a beautiful smile. Anyway, glad to have you here, and pop by often!

Well technically I wouldn't call it exercising but I have increased my activity. I does stairs 4 flights several times a day, instead of using the elevator. And to be honest I'm a slob. So I just stopped being lazy and started cleaning my house...like constantly ( I have 2 kids). And instead of having my kids do stuff for me I just get up and do it myself. So it's not much "exercise" but it's definite improvement.

Thanks for letting me know about your experience!  I think that I'm going to go buy a cheap mat at Target and give it a shot.  I think it would be good for my body to change it up a little and do different type of exercise.  Maybe mixing the yoga with my regular cardio will keep my body guessing (AND LOSING!).

Best of luck to everyone!
