Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

I want to be able to watch my booty shrink without having to jump up and down to see it in the mirror above my bathroom sink. :-)

LOL!  That is too cute!  I think you're ready for the full length, allydan.  You've been doing so well!!!

oka so i am about to head to the second interveiw. ima  be praying it goes well.  yesterday i was at my grandparents making a sandwich for school and i had been complaining all day to my aunt about how i had no choice but t o eat bad food cuz of the no money thing. when i was at my grandparents, my aunt showed up with 3 bags from jack in the box.  all kinds of good greasy stuff. she hands me  a bag and says "i got you a present"  a chicken club salad. OMG!!!! those are so freak'n good!! i had no idea jack made such good salads. and there is a crazy guy running around my moms office building with a gun. maybe i WILL go for a jog at memorial park

hilwe: just know that the truly healthy ppl at the gym actually think it's so great that you're there getting healthy and fit!  and what dalm and safa said about the nudies is soooo true!!  i figure if they got over feeling self conscious about it then the least i can do is to not feel self conscious about them walking around naked!

watchme: yay for getting sleep your body needs!  and for not eating the pasta :)

ally: buying a full length mirror is on my agenda for the wkend as well!

I'm not working out today... but I have a good reason.  I sat down to dinner last night and promptly ran for the bathroom to throw up.  I was running a temp of 102.6 and it finally broke around 7am.  I feel pretty crappy in general and have been sleeping and drinking water and sleeping.  but i wanted to get on here and see what everyone was up to!  hope you all have a great wkend!!

PC -- i DID eat the pasta.  and then slept instead of working out.  LOL.  OH WELL!  going to dance from 6-7 then dinner with a friend then maybe work out some more.

O'dear pink--I hope you feel better! Not good!

Hello ladies! It's snowing here Frown Not fun- I went to the gym and worked out for 40 minutes with weights & cardio--I will go back tonight to go to spin class-- I didn't go to spin class last night

Fallon-Great job on the chicken sandwich--that was soo nice of your aunt! Let us know if you went for a jog or not...

allydan: I used to have a full-length mirror--good luck! Let us know what kind you got--I always seem to break mine--Hey by the way are you still going out with that guy?

watchmeshine: Wow, nice with all the sleep,, I love love my sleep--I got like 10 hours of sleep last night and I feel good--keep getting your rest girl!

Dalmal: I can't stand people who walk around in the locker room nude--I just don't get it--it bothers me but that's just me---I just don't understand why they can't wait until they get home and I don't want to see other people naked--I understand it's a natural thing--but it still bothers me

Ok ladies, I'm off to run some errands, school starts again on Monday Frown--Anybody got any plans this weekend?

 are you serious? really?

that's nuts, and scary. i hope your mom's okay! and not to sound bonkers, though i totally think i'm a little psychic, but i had a dream last night that a guy was terrorizing people in my office building with a gun. he followed one of us off the elevator and slid in the door behind someone (you need to swipe a badge to get inside). that dream was way too real and terrifying, b/c he had the gun on me. i hope everything turns out okay.

weight loss pace.

hey guys, i'm a little confused on this whole healthy weight loss pace.  i know you are not supposed to starve yourself calories wise -- that is obviously unhealthy b/c it means your body isn't getting enough energy intake to do its bodily functions.

but, what about exercising causing weight loss?  i've heard about people losing weight on the biggest loser, for instance, who lose a number of pounds a week by exercising.  why is THAT okay even though it's more than the "healthy 1-2 lbs per week" rule?

i don't know that it is okay. it all seems crazy and dangerous to me. i think i'd have a heart attack if i were on that show. or at least severely pissed off at exercising so hard and eating so little.

pinkcobra- Thanks!  I'm already much busier than I was a couple of weeks ago.  Now I'm working 2 jobs, going to night class one night a week, 3 days of church related activities, plus spending time with my son!  Phew!  I can't believe I get a workout in there 6 out of 7 days too!

niehma- Welcome to the group!  You're going to fit right in here.  Just remember that exercise is only a part of losing weight.  Starting just with the nutritional eating will definitely make a huge difference to how you look and feel too.  Exercise when and if you can, but that will be a bonus to getting healthy!

fallon- I love hearing that you have little cheerleaders at the gym!  That totally rocks!  Is it mostly younger people, female, or what that give you props when you're "going to town" on the equipment?

danibelle- Congrats on the personal training session kicking your butt.  I would be intimidated by someone guiding me through everything I think.  I'd be too worried about how they thought I was doing or if I was too much of a fatty or something.

Couch to 5k'ers- This 3rd week has kicked my butt!  I think I'm going through the days too quickly (1 on, 1 off- already completed day 3 week 3).  I'm shocked that the jogging intervals keep increasing by almost double after each week.  Eeeks!  I haven't cheated or shaved off any recommended jogging times though, and actually add on 1-2 extra minutes by the 3rd day of the week, just so that the next week intervals aren't quite such a jump for me.  I like the way my running has become more controlled.  Before starting this program I used to feel like a cow, pounding my feet into the treadmill, but now I feel more graceful or something??

allydan- Good job finishing week 1 of couch!  It's such a good feeling when the 2nd or 3rd day feels easier to do!  The same thing is true for me.  Keep sticking with it and continue to amaze yourself!

safantasia- Your family is going to be so proud of you!  I hope you can accomplish your next size down before seeing them, but even if you don't, you're definitely going to continue getting smaller and smaller eventually!

alibuch- Thanks for the links to eating on a budget.  I definitely fall under that category and need all the help I can get!  Lately I've been buying whatever healthy food I want and decide, to heck with it!  It makes for problems with the hubby, but I figure it's going to be so beneficial in the long run, who cares!  I need to do my part and try to keep within reason at the grocery store.

feddiechick- You MUST go to the prom!  As a high schooler, I would have thought that was the sweetest thing ever, and you and your husband will be good examples to all of the teens in attendance.  Have fun!  The dress is gorgeous!

watchme- I like the way you continue to adjust this process for yourself.  Keep mixing it up (smaller goals/bigger goals, dance/cardio, etc.).  You're body is going to thank you for keeping it guessing all the time!  The cravings are very normal and healthy.  Just be happy you're craving protein and not sugar!  Your new pics are looking good!  You continue to impress me :)

meltingaway- Thanks for your testimony.  It's a relief to know that others have succeeded on the same path that we're on.  What an encouragement that you don't have too much skin issues!  That's one of my biggest fears is losing the weight but still looking horrible because of sagging.  I'm definitely sticking to my exercising!

dalmalama- You're theory on cravings is really interesting!  I never thought about it that way.

watchme- you've got me wanting chocolatey popcorn now! :P  I was doing so good with drinking enough water, but within the past couple of weeks I'm back to maybe 40 oz. a day.  Shame on me!

alibuch- You're water story is too cute!

Boots- I also heart walking outside.  I was doing really good with this when my bud and I would go out nearly every night for a 3 mile walk (including hills), but then life got busy.  I miss my nightly walks!  You're doing awesome with your spin classes, by the way!

pinkcobra- You're plateau is just your body trying to stick to what it knows best.  Keep strong, and it will eventually come around and be ok with the changes you are submitting it to.  I think switching it up at the Y is definitely going to help!

watchme- This whole journey has felt like a roller coaster to me too.  One day I'm feeling all smaller and cute, and the next it's like a horrible reality check.  I know I'm in better shape physically and mentally than I was before starting, but I still just want to skip all of the ups and downs and be my happy self at my goal.  The harder we work at it, the better we will feel at the end, right?

fallon- Way to go for jogging on the 26th!  Jogging half of your time is much better than jogging none of it.  You are going to improve by leaps and bounds.  the beginning is the hardest.  I'm looking forward to your growth!  I'm sorry about your parent drama.  Sometimes parents can be so selfish and foolish.  You're going to get through this!

dalmalama-  Oooh!  Switching to tennis for exercise sounds like fun!  I've never really actually tried it, but I think I should!

sroscoe- You're friend's theory about emotions tied to stored fat sounds right on the money.  I know that most all of my extra weight is there because I have turned to food in times of stress, sadness, happiness, etc.  When I think about those squishy parts of me, I get down,  because I took the easy way out of my emotions instead of working through everything.  Now I am reminded of all that hurt and what not as I watch it shrink.

allydan- He's an idiot if he's even thinking about passing you up!  I know we are all just internet aquaintences, but I see so much in you!  You are genuine, positive, spunky, uplifting, and sexy!

fantasyflight- I hope your test went alright.  Don't worry about the candy bar or the one day missed of exercise.  It all evens out eventually!

Boots- Thanks for the encouragement!

watchme- I agree, higher intesity and shorter time can still equal higher burn than low intensity and longer time.  Keep up the great work!

pinkcobra- How funny!  I was about to look up how to calculate my target heart rate!  Thanks for doing the work for me :)

fantasyflight- Contrats on the first 5 down!

danibelle- Wowsers!  60 minute a day goal for cardio is massive!  I think it's totally fine that you cut it short for the day.  Way to go on finishing week 2 of couch!

alibuch- How was the Indian fare?  I'm craving some chicken tikka marsala. :D

hilwe- I feel so bad about your fall!  I did that once when I was moving apartments.  I landed on my elbow and ended up chipping it.  There's nothing they could do for me though, so I was just really sore and bruised for about a month.  Give yourself plenty of time to recover, just eat sensibly in the interim.

sonini- What a beautiful picture you've added!

watchme- You are a fount of knowlege!  Way to go on the research!

yessica- I agree, this place is THE place for my motivation!  Thanks for always looking at the bright side of things and for keeping us positive!

dalmalama- Yikes!  That cardio class sounded like it was sheer torture!  I think I would have left after the first 10 minutes.  Give yourself a pat on the back for trying to stick with the whole shebang!

watchme- I used to work at Curves in college.  It's a great atmosphere for newbie strength trainers, but it's easy to slack and not get a good work out.  The machines are all hydrolic, so you have to put a lot in to get results.  I pushed myself when I worked out there, and felt it the next day too, but some women just went through the motions and expected the machines to do the work for them.  Naturally they didn't see results or really build any kind of muscles.  Give it a try though!  I'm sure you could get a free weekly trial if you stop to check it out.

dalmalama- Fly a kite for me too!  I remember being so winded as a chunky little kid, trying to run to get the kite off the ground.  I wish I would have been more active when I was little.  I sure am paying for it now!

Boots- I hope you're feeling better today.  That's a trek you have to take to get to the gym!  2.5 hours away is massive!  I thought that I would die before I saw 200 on the scale, but it came and surpassed that number and I'm still here.  I felt like, geez, I've let myself go this far, what's the use!?!  I'm glad I've become driven to change my current health.  I also agree that the recommended number CC gave me seems nearly impossible.  I'm still going to strive for a BMI of around 23, but if I get to 160-170 and feel awesome, I may just stop there too (even if that means I'm still overweight).

hilwe- I'll have to wait for everyone else's comments about overcoming gym fears, because I'm in the same boat as you.

dalmalama- You're naked locker room bit made me blush and laugh...  I can't wait for the day that I think my body is just as "good" as most.  I'd probably be the one that changes in the bathroom stall just to avoid anybody accidentally seeing me.

allydan- Yeah for kickboxing!  That sounds like so much fun.  I did some of that in college when a gal from my dorm randomly led a bunch of us in the basement of our dorm.  It was phenominal!  You're going to do great with day 1 week 2 couch!  I might suggest doing it first though.

fallon- Interview #2; that's awesome!  Yeah of salads from fast food chains!  I would have been so scared for your mom.  Did the guy get arrested?  Have a good jog at the park!

pinkcobra- I'm sorry you're not feeling well.  Best thing to do is slow down and let your body re-coop.  You're not preggers, are you? *That would be soooo exciting!*

Boots- Good to see you again :)  I love reading your posts!

dalmalama- I detest those types of dreams.  I wake up not knowing if it's really happened and I'm reliving it or what.

watchme- The only reason it's ok for people to lose like that on Biggest Loser is because they are being monitored 24/7 by a team of medical staff.  It's not something you could do on your own without possible serious complications.

Watchme---ya it's still a healthy weight loss weight of 1 to 2 pounds a week even in you exercise---And to do with the Biggest Loser--I love that show for motivation but I would never do it--I currently have a nutrition magazine where an ex-contestant said that she was eating under 1000 calories a day and exercising 6 to 10 hours in the gym and her hair was falling out and she was so un-healthy--and after she left the show she gained like 15 pounds just to try to get her health back and now she's on a new weight loss trying to do it a healthy way--So it's just really unrealistic---for us (or me I would never want to go on that show) to have those kind of numbers--they are monitored by doctors and nutritionist but the ladies hair was still falling out--The Biggest Loser is just a competition and should never be seen as a realistic weight loss show----

WOOHOO WOOHOO & WOOHOO!!! so yea!!! i got the job at starbucks!!! i  am so excited and my mgr seems freak'n awesome. this feels good all around. and the feeling i am  getting from them is that i will be a 4:15am to 12:45pm. oh god!! i am so not a morning person!! i usually go to sleep at 4am. eh.. oh well. it will be good for me. thank god i am so happy!!! no i havent jogged yet, but as soon as i finish this i  am going. how could i not? i am stoked!

and yes the dr called my mama and said "locked the door and stay in the office cuz there is something going on with a gun. the building is surrounded by cops and there are helicopters" so of course my nosey aunt,  runs downstairs to see whats going on cuz they are on the 6th floor. the cops tell her to go back upstairs and stay in the office. when she gets back my mom goes "well? whats going on?" my aunt goes "idk" so my mom called channel 2 and they told her there was a black man with a goatee. he is suspected of something and has a gun. haha my aunt is an idiot. she told her husband that she went down stairs and he b**ched her out so bad. haha. anywho, i dont see any breaking news and my mom and aunt are fine. i assume they found him.

and remember how i am an alkie? so my bud told me to come meet them at thebar. i went and she bought me beer which is fine with me since i only had $4.00.  ( oh oh 2 funny!!  i told my aunt about how you guys were telling me oatmeal was $3 and to go buy some. so when she gave me the salad she put $4.00 in the bag. $3 for the oatmeal and $1 to party with. haha) so i went to get a cup from the bartender and on the wway back saw a $5 bill sitting on the floor under a chair. i love the bar, and the drunks. i always find money on the grond in the bar. i went in with $4 and left with $9. yea me!! and i met this guy that way cute except for his teeth were  gross. i am a teethnut, so. he called me today and left a msg but since i never check my voicemails oh well.  i dont call back either.

see starbucks is gonna be perfect cuz it will help me to stop drinking since i wont have free time and i will have to be up at 3am. cant go to work drunk. ok going to jog nowLaughing

YAY FALLON!!!

btw, can i get a tall, half-caff mocha frap, light, soy whipped cream?Smile

dalma, no whipped cream!  sorry!  it's for your own good, woman!!

i said "soy"!! Wink

mladdy, i think you beat suzanne on longest post.  good god woman!  thanks for all of your feedback though =)  and i'm glad you think my pics look good.... will post some more in a few weeks when i'm in a size 20!  it should be by the end of april the way my 22s are fitting!  (they're already falling a little... wish i had known i could have started wearing them about 2 weeks ago!)  i'm going home on april 10th so i'm going to raid my mom's closet for some size 20s.

ummm is soy whipped cream that much better?

watchme:  the ppl on biggest loser are monitored constantly by doctors and dieticians.  the 1-2 pounds a wk thing is what is healthy and safe to do on your own.  On the show, they know that the ppl aren't starving themselves and are getting all the nutrients and water that they need.

dalma: soy whip is yummy!!!!

Mladdy: whew, that was a crazy long post!  you're so awesome!!!  And, NO, I sure as heck better not be preggers!!!  I have been hanging out with my niece and nephew this week though and apparently half the children of portland have the flu, so I'm blaming it on them... lol.  thanks for all the well wishes, everyone!

oh and one more thing

watchme:  I, too, worked at curves for a year and second what mladdy said.  You have to really try to get a workout!!  but it is a good place to start as long as it's a good curves and the ppl working there don't suck.  definitely check it out, you can totally get a free week!

So I just found you guys.  I know you all have been at this for a while, this message board goes back to Jan.  I have been at this since then, but just joined CC a few weeks ago.  I was trucking along just fine but I fell off the wagon this week and need some motivation.

So I like many of you I have quite a road ahead of me.  I am 27, and my starting weight was 230 pounds.  I am down to 225 pounds now (yeah I only lost 5 pounds but my body fat went down 2 % and I have lost inches, I think I am building a lot of muscle) and I would like to get down to about 140 (I'm 5'3" so I figured 140 would be a good place for me).  I have been trying to lose weight for so long now and it usually ends up with me gaining weight.  I wish I didn't think about it so often but it seems to be a part of everything I do.

My chiropractor started a Biggest Loser competition with some of his patients.  We meet once or twice a month for a boot camp and nutritional seminar.  The biggest thing with this is that I have a few friends doing it with me, but we all seem to have fallen off the wagon at the same time!  So, we aren't being very supportive of each other.  Some of the biggest changes I have made since I started this are not eating as much processed foods (which is much harder than one might think) and eating more organic/raw foods, but the problem with that is having to have good food on hand all the time.  When its available I have no issues, but I hate going to the grocery store all the time so I try to just do one big trip to Costco once a month (btw - Costco has a lot of organic stuff, it's not a bad place to shop if you are trying to be healthy).  The problem with not going to the store more is when I run out of something that I usually eat every day I have nothing to replace it with and then I end up being hungry and then eating bad.  This week has just been so hard on me.  I am normally not so pessimistic, but I feel crappy because i have been eating crappy.  I know how to lose weight I just lost my motivation.  Can you guys help me?
