Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

OOOHHHHH!!! Trapeze class sounds awesome!!!  I wanna go too!

It's crazy since I want to go sky diving, but OMG, trapeze classes sound scary! That's a totally awesome idea, though! Way to come up with two great rewards for yourself!

And I think it would be totally awesome if we all could vacation together, sonini! Maybe I'll start saving money too, just in case. :-)

Way to get back on track, safantasia! :-)

wow... helicopter lessons sound amazing! that's a great idea! especially considering there is a "weight maximum" so it's something you really wouldn't have been able to do before!

lasering your underarms is a good idea safantasia.... and it reminded me of something. I'm definitely getting a brazilian when I'm under 200lbs. Embarassed My friend and I are going to get them together once we are under 200 (we weigh the same right now). It's way too embarrassing to get something like that done now... so I can't wait!

I wanna come too for trapeze class!! what a great idea!

Sonini, I'm so with you on the brazillian thing, that's like for my 125 lbs or more goal!!

And what a great idea to put away money too...I should start doing that too!!

Thanks ally.

My goodness you guys are active today!  The reward thing is such a good idea.  I just decided I am getting a massage for reaching 220 (6 pounds to go, I think I posted this already) and then I will give myself a new reward to work toward.  I love treating myself to that kind of stuff so it is perfect for me.  I love the save money for every pound idea.  My husband and I were just talking about going somewhere for our 5 year wedding anniversary next year but I don't want to take a vacation until I can wear really cute clothes and be comfortable in a bathing suit.  So that gives me motivation to get thin by next May.  Trapeze class does sound fun, but too scary for me.

Watchme  - congrats on the 5 pounds.  Every pound is a huge accomplishment!  You may have been building muscle while you were burning fat, so you might have gained muscle weight while you were losing fat.  That's what happened to me last month.  I only lost 3 pounds, but my body fat went down 2%.  If you have a gym membership they may have a way to measure your body fat every month or so (my gym has this little hand held thing that tells you your body fat and they let members use it for free as often as they want).

Suzanne - I am also surrounded by people having babies.  I think I know of 9 people who are pregnant right now and most of them are at work, so of course everyone is joking that there is something in the water and asking who will be next.  There aren't a lot of women where I work, so there aren't very many left to be getting pregnant, so of course everyone, including my boss is joking that I am next.  I have been starting to think about having a baby more and more and now when I see other people's kids I'm not so repulsed (I was going through a stage where the thought of having kids made me sick), but like you I am not ready.  I don't feel I am healthy enough to have a baby.  I don't want to have major complications during my pregnancy just because I am fat and unhealthy.  If/when I ever get pregnant I want to be very natural and healthy about everything.  That is part of the reason I started on this weight loss journey.  I even told my husband that once I am healthy I might want to have a baby, so he better watch out!Tongue out

m_c_85: Hi, welcome to our group! I gain/lose weight everyday too! Up two pounds down three pounds up one pound down 2 pounds up 3 pounds....Wow, a girl over 5' trying to get down to 85 pounds? People are crazy! Here you will find girls seeking healthy weight goals! A few posts back, watchmeshine posted a great article about why our weight goes up and down. Check it out! Good Luck! I too am still at the eat too much stage, although I have cut back a whole lot!

bootser: It's ok if you skip a workout once in a while. You are already pretty regularly achieving six hours, and thats good in itself! I am sure your one weekend of bad eatng won't hurtyou too much!

scarter1: I think it's better to give yourself a day off if you are very sore, only because you can do damage to your muscles. You won't get as sore after working out say 3 times a week for an hour each time, because you will be building muscle. But I think working out 2 days in a row if your sore might be less beneficial? I like your goal treat!

alibuch: I read on a few sources that you need to give your body four hours to digest before going to bed because other wise your body stores what you ate. The average person goes to bed at 10pm so that is why they say after 6 sticks. I think you could use that four hours around the clock though, so if you go to bed at 4 am, don't eat past midnight etc.

mladdy: You will always have a place among friends here. I am glad your jobs are going well! I really have to plan what I eat for the day. When I am home, it's not as bad I don't think, but when I am at work, I usually have to plan. I usually bring a turkey sandwich, a yogurt, and an apple to work. That's all stuff you could probably put in a lunch box with an ice pack if you can't access the fridge. I hope that helps!

dalmalama: How about an all about you day??? (For your reward) Stay home, in your pjs, watch your favorite movie, read your favorite book, do your favorite hobby, etc? Another idea is a night on the town! Get dressed up, go out and PARTY!

thanks for  the suggestions, suzanne! but i already do all that stuff...i'm totally trying to make up for all the wasted years between 18 and now, so i've done a lot of the things i used to think i was too heavy for, including speed dating (which wasn't half bad!), and that's why i needed to pick something super, extra crazy.

hey guys, a friend of mine told me that kickboxing is really, really, really tough and that she decided to pick up with those classes again when she's a little fitter.  do you think it will be too much for me then?  she said it's tougher than running for her.  i don't want to do too much damage... the classes are $15/class so they aren't cheap compared to my dance aerobics classes and regular dance classes (about $8/class).  any thoughts?

by the way, since we are on the topic of treats and i am not quite as ambitious as dalma, any ideas for me? :)  i guess i have the "tame" stuff like getting my hair layed (again) and streaked and a mani/pedi worked into my smaller goals but what else?  i want something for each size down and i already have plenty of goal clothes for my next sizes down and my ultimate size down.... and i already have like 30 designer purses (have a Coach fettish).  not sure what else to do!  the big vacation is at 100 down.  but my 36 down (now 31 left) goal should be something more significant than a mani/pedi and less significant than a dream vacation....

dalma, i looked into helicopter lessons here too a few months ago (it's my dream to be able to fly one day) and wussed out and decided to do horseback riding instead.  i figured i'd do helicopter lessons when i also would like photographs of myself flying :)  i think it's a totally fabulous idea!

somebody mentioned new undies earlier. that's a great idea, especially new bras, especially cute sexy ones! that could be a mini-goal, watchme.

Suzanne - I ended up not giving myself the day off from the gym but I didn't do the hardcore workout I was planning.  I just did 30 minutes on the eliptical and then some abs and a lot of stretching.  I felt like I would be a slacker if I took today off from the gym.  I was sore from the spinning class I took on Sunday, which was only my second time.  I have been stregth training for almost two months now so the soreness from that isn't bad any more.  When I first started it was aweful though.  I have never been as sore as I was back in Feb.  I seriously almost couldn't walk after I started the workout routine I am doing now.  I love this workout that I do though because my heart rate is up the whole time, I am constantly moving, there is no wasted time and it doesn't feel so repeatative so I don't get bored.  I have gotten so much stronger.  When I first started I could only do 12 push ups (girl style) and now I am up to 30.  I could only do 30 seconds of wall squats and now I can do 90 seconds!  I know I am so much further a long than when I first started even though the scale hasn't changed that much.  I just have one of those types of bodies that gains muscle easily (unfortunately I have my fathers frame, not my mothers - she was very petite, not me though) but the burning the fat part is still really hard for me.

Watchme - what about a whole day at the spa or a half day?  If you like pampering yourself like I do that would be a fun way to reward yourself for a mini-goal.  I think for my 210 pound reward I am going to do a hot stone massage (I have always wanted one of those but have never gotten one) and for my under 200 goal I am going to treat myself to a day at the spa.  I want a massage so bad right now! Too bad i can't jsut get up and leave work and go get oneCry

alibuch: Where is your confidence! Come on you know you are gorgeous!

ximena: Good luck on your wedding!

Sonini: I agree, when I know I have on pretty underwear, it's like I have extra bounce in my step! I like your idea! We can all go to some tropical island together! That would absolutely rock! We could go all inclusive for like 700 a person!

watchme: Disney works for me too!

pinkcobra: Now you will know how to use them, and you will really benefit!

dalma:Those ideas sound soooo awesome!

Scarter 1: I too told my husband that maybe next year we can talk about babies! Here is the thing, I love kids, and kids love me. But I am 23, and I really am not ready for the constant "mommy mommy mommy" that comes with having kids of your own. I have a five year old step sister, and whenever I see her she crawls right up my bum and stays there! She wants nothing to do with anyone else, and I adore her, but it's always such a relief to be able to give her back!

Is anyone here in the boulder/lafayette/erie CO area?

hey guys - so i am probably crazy but i just added a journal post that analyzed me month-by-month.  i've been marking my work outs/dance classes on a calendar so it took all of 30 minutes to do but it's sort of eye-opening to see the breakdown of time spent versus return on weight loss... not what you would expect.  if you're on my friends list, check it out.  Laughing  i welcome feedback and ideas.  i'm going to keep this up.

Watchme - that's a really good idea.  I started one to track how close I am to getting my next reward.  Also kickboxing is fun and an awesome way to get a whole body workout.  I used to do Tae-Bo and I lost a lot of weight doing that and it toned my core so much!  $15 a class sounds expensive, but I'm a tight-wad, so who knows...

Hey ladies! I am glad I found this group! I am trying to lose about 80lbs. I realize this is a group for 100 lbs or more, but I need support too. I cannot deal with chicks who need to lose 5 lbs to fit into their size 0 bikini or something. Hopefully, I will gain some ideas.

welcome perskii!

thanks for the info scarter.  i think it's kind of steep too.  if i take it 2x in a row it comes down to $13/class (still pricy if you ask me).  i'm not a member of a gym since my building has it's own fitness center (gym, pool, sauna, and hottub).  hence, taking classes like kickboxing or spinning isn't an option unless i go out and sign up for it.  most of the gyms around here charge like $15-20 for a day pass to take a bunch of classes but the only day i really have time to take advantage of that would be saturdays and even then there are never more than 1-2 classes that i want to take.  i'd much rather just stick to a set of classes at the community center then that forces me to be disciplined about going, ya know?

did you think kickboxing was too intense?  i'm still very heavy (266 lbs) so i don't want to over do it or get injured....

dalma: I love your ideas. Seriously! Maybe the reason I am not doing as well as you is because I tell myself I can have stuff like a day at home or whatever when it's stuff I already do too! Your ideas are way more exciting!

watchme: I used to take boxing/kick boxing when I was more fit, and I loved it! Try a class once, and if you don't like it, no worries, you can try something else! I too have a coach fetish! I love coach! You can buy yourself designer luggage for your next goal! That way you will have it on your vacation! I will check out your journal

scarter1: I am broud of you for going to the gym! Way to go! It's really good that you have a great routine that really works for you! Once upon a time, I was able to do 50 regular pushups, but I will never be able to do pushups again because I don't have a left tricep muscle. Way to go on getting so far though! Also its awesome that you can do 90 seconds of squats! I doubt that I could do that many! Building muscle helps to burn fat, so keep it up!

perskii: You are definitely welcome here! The 100 or more is really a concept, so we don't end up talking to a bunch of girls like you mentioned who just really wouldn't understand. Good luck! I am sure you can lose your 80 pounds!

watchme - Well, when I did it last I was probably about 215 and I was doing the beginner Tae-Bo workout and I took it at my own pace so I didn't think it was too intense.  Most classes allow you to go at your own pace so if you need to take a break you just do.  I didn't think the moves were especially hard, they're all do-able it just might be kind of hard to do all the reps in the beginning.  I know what you mean about the classes though.  The gym I go to doesn't offer any classes, but that's why the membership is so cheap ($9/month) so I started going to the rec center once a week for a spinning class.  Maybe you could see if you could just go observe a class or get a free trial class to see if you like it/can do it before you have to start dropping money to do it.  Or if you are into working out at home then try to find a Tao-Bo work out and do it at home and see if you like it.  That would be cheaper than continually paying for a class (classes are better though if you're into the group atmosphere thing).
