Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds

Quote  |  Reply
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

hi akela, i have been living off lean cuisines and kashi off and on for more than 3 years now so i feel like i just cannot take it anymore.  i really miss eating fresh food and seem to eat out 3-4 evenings a week just to get it.... that is on top of getting a sandwich or pizza (or a salad when i behave) at least 2-3 times a week for lunch, monday through friday... i very rarely have the time to make a sandwich for myself in the morning so i usually just grab a frozen meal or a can of soup and go.  i really want something fresh each day and i just don't know how else to get it without taking a few hours out of my day to cook.... and i have also tried the whole cook on sunday and freeze thing and it just doesn't work well for me.  sigh.

boots, i did look into amy's kitchen but it seemed really high carb... probably b/c it is vegetarian.  i do like some of their stuff and kashi so i will try to get some of that to tide me over for the next month or two.  i also have a bunch of lean cuisines that i have not had the desire to eat that are still sitting in my freezer.

as for prepared meals, i decided to try seattle sutton for a week starting on monday just to see how it tastes and b/c i got a good coupon.  i do think that if i use a prepared food place, i will end up going with alter eatgo though just based on the reviews and what i have read about it.  i will start that either the week of november 16th (based on when a project at work wraps up) to do my test run or else in the second week of december when i get back from thanksgiving (i will be gone for  a week and so i will miss their deliveries pushing me back by a week.)

thanx for the prayers ladies. we got some news. not exactly the best news, but nor really the worst either. i am just praying it will all work out.

wow, this place is so slow lately.

watchme- I understand. I just didn't realize you were already doing the frozen stuff. Sorry for rambling. :) I just DO that.

Well, despite my incredibly shaky start, I somehow managed to lose a pound this week, girls. Does't *really* seem possible, but I'll take it. I DID get my exercise in, and that's awesome for me... Only rest day was on Monday. Been out for walks every other night this week. The weather has been AMAZING for this time of year.

I'm off to do some dishes and Dan booked our honeymoon suite for tonight so I'm super excited! One of those VIP rooms with the hot-tub and all. Because of our schedules being so crazy, lately, we haven't actually got to see each other much since the wedding. My mom volunteered out of the blue to watch David tonight, so I think we're going to get to actually have some alone, alone time away from home. Really looking forward to it.

AND I get to go swimming, so life is SO good at the moment!!

Akela- Congrats on your night out! I am so happy for you guys- it's hard to find time to spend together with such busy schedules...

Anyway, after tonight I am back to my normal routine- my out of town guest is gone and I get one and a half normal weeks before it's off to Thanksgiving land :-p Good luck everyone!

ana-how exactly does cottage cheese with cereal work?  That sounds awful and wonderful at the same time.  Details?

akela-congrats on your pound!  I am so jealous!  I'm hoping to see something tomorrow!  Have a great time on your honeymoon!

watchme-I have never met a frozen meal that I actually liked.  I like my food really simple and I find that frozen meals put a whole mess of stuff in a dish that I don't like.  If I had the money I would do the delivery.  If the food is fresh and good that would be awesome!  Let us know how it works out.

ladies-I finally got in some exercise this week so I am hoping to FINALLY see some movement downward!  Cross your fingers!  Only have 3 more days till I can leave for home!  Can't wait to get some much needed time off!

Hi guys my computer crashed and I havent got a new one yet but will soon. I just wanted to stop in and say hi. Have a good day all

Well, im not in my 20's yet, im 18, but i started out having to lose 107 lbs. I've conquored 62 of those pounds already, so im more than halfway! 45 more to go =)

Hi i'm 26 and i have to lose about 50kgs. i'm just starting out again after losing and gaining the same 10kg over and over.

hi all!

i'm switching stuff up with weight watchers starting tomorrow, so i'm hoping, PRAYING to get the hell out of the 180s by the end of the month. my body's a bitch; i was 181 this morning but i can almost bet i'll be 183 tomorrow. i did manage to work out 5 times this week, but i also overate on 2 or 3 occasions. so i can't really be mad at the scale tomorrow.

anyhoo, what's really awesome is that this dress fits!!! well, technically. my measurements match up with the size chart. it's not in stores, and i have neither the money nor the need to buy it any time soon, but it's just awesome to finally be able to fit incredible dresses.

...and i lost almost a pound. i was 181.8 yesterday, to be exact. i was 182.something all last week. this morning i was 181.0. i knew that'd happen. i did kick up the exercise, but i also had a full serving of general tso's chicken, a slice of butterfinger cream pie, about 10 mini snickers bars, a few cups of godiva hot chocolate, and a ginormous chipotle steak burrito. and i lost a pound.

i knew my body wanted me to eat more. okay not really; i was just sick of eating so few cals and seeing almost no results. but if i'm honest with myself, i would've probably lost at least 2 pounds if i'd eaten properly. oh well, at least the numbers are going down again. i hope, now that i'm back on the eating wagon, to FINALLY see 179 next week.

Dalma: You are doing so well and that gold dress is Hawt!

Akela: Glad to hear life is good - you deserve it :)

I keep saying that I'm gonna get back on track but I havent :S My mom's roomate died in her sleep on Thursday night and my mom found her (I'm ok I didn't know her very well) so she's devastated. She had the flu (not H1N1) and was an alcoholic so instead of spending her time off work to get better, she practically drank herself to death. Madness.

I've been trying to talk to my mom and spend time with her which has thrown off the gym schedule... I haven't been counting either - but that is out of sheer laziness! LOL I'm going to see my mom tonight instead of scheduled gym visit #2 but wild horses couldn't keep me away from the gym on Wednesday!

On the plus side, though I haven't been counting or working out I am still 203 :D This is the week I get back on track for sure!

iwill- Don't be too jealous, hon. I'm just covering the same ground I've been covering the last 5 months. Keep juggling the same pounds. It's not that impressive. Really. I know what I need to do, I just need to DO it.

dalma- I hope the calorie increase will help... Zig-Zagging the calories when you stall really does seem to help. In your case, you're getting so close to where you probably want to be that I know it must be frustrating, but it's got to be comforting on SOME levels... I mean, your body is slowing down the loss for a reason. :) You're almost there!! That dress is hot. Hang in there, girl!

akasha- Life is good, and the weekend was great. Our accommodations weren't swell, but it was still nice to get out of the house for a bit.

This is the feedback blurb I sent to Days Inn following our weekend stay:

It’s my understanding that our Days Inn in Emporia is “privately owned”… You might want to send an incognito rep down to make sure you still want to rent your name out to this place. Our story started with a snafu back on the 17th of October… My folks rented my husband and myself a suite as a wedding gift. Due to situations truly beyond the hotels control, our room was not available that night despite our booking. To make amends the hotel manager (Jeremy) offered us a room, gratis, at a later time. Very kind of him. While I truly appreciate the gesture, we were sadly disappointed with our accommodations. The room was spacious enough, but not particularly clean. (Used bars of soap left about the room, hair in the shower, and a big pile of… something… near the air-conditioning unit.) It also wasn’t in particularly great shape. (Little things like the broken heat-lamp in the bathroom, light switches that didn’t turn on any lights, lamps that didn’t work, and I’ve never seen a television running cable that had static like my set did back in the days of rabbit-ear antenna.) We were really looking forward to some time, pool-side… I know that hotels are notorious for keeping their hot-tubs REDICULOUSLY hot, and I don’t mind this… I just avoid them. But I’ve never before gotten into a swimming pool that was hotter then any bath I usually run for myself… I was literally sweating. We brought along our son for some swim time, and I’ll admit, a two-year olds skin is a bit more sensitive then most peoples, but I still found it a bit alarming that he was lobster-red 15 minutes after being in the water. Needless to say, that was the end of our pool time.

There were several little things here and there (like the fact that I was dying of thirst at 2:30 in the morning, but we had neither ice-bucket, nor drinking cups in our room) none of them epic in their own right, but all of which contributed to a fairly unpleasant stay. This is the first negative experience I’ve had with a Days Inn, and I implore you to look into this place. I can’t imagine referring family or friends to our *local* ever again.

Hi ladies...

Fallon, hang in there!  I hope everything turns out okay! (((hugs)))

Watchme, given your time constraints, prepared foods sound like a great idea!  Let us know how it is!

Dalma, I LOVE that dress!  Yay for fitting hot dresses! :-D

Akasha, I'm sorry about your mom's roommate... I'm sure your mom is SO happy for your support right now!

Akela, I'm sorry you guys had a crappy hotel stay, but kudos to you for sending on feedback to the corporate office!  A lot of people don't do that, and I'd like to think it helps! :-)

So, I'm sorry I haven't really been around for the last few days.  Work was hectic at the end of last week, and we spent the weekend at the BF's parents' ranch where I utterly gorged myself. Embarassed

I've decided that my main problem is that even though I've been working out regularly over the past few weeks, and burning crazy calories at the gym, my eating goes off at least once during the week, and generally all weekend long.  I USED to be able to cheat all weekend and still lose a bit, but I just can't do that now.  So here's my plan: 1) buy the damn scale I've been putting off buying.  I haven't had a regular scale in months (since the one I was using at work disappeared), and even though I weigh myself whenever I go to the gym, it's SUPER variable depending on my workout/water consumption.  I need a scale at home so I can weigh myself at least a few times a week to really keep track of my weight. 2) Plan my meals.  When I've got a plan, I do great!  When I play it by ear, my hunger plans my meals, and hunger is not a healthy eater.  Hunger convinces me that Mexican food would be a great idea, or that french fries are really necessary parts of my diet.  So I'm hoping if I can just keep it together I can still be down a few pounds by the end of the month.

Happy Monday, ladies! :-)

I hate it when I am starving and I convince myself to go to arby's because it's the only thing fast enough to make me feel better.  While on my way to arby's (cheater) I hate that I think that one meal won't do.  I'm just too hungry!  I try to convince myself that not only do I need 1,000 cals in one meal but I need desert or an extra large fry instead of a regular one to satisfy me.  Once the cheat train get's rollin, it takes a lot to reign it in!

On the upside, I made an appointment today to get a makeover.  I'm gonna cut my hair short, get it straightened and get my eyebrows done.  I hope the brows have grown out long enough to get them done.  I'm nervous about getting my hair done but excited at the same time :)

yay makeovers! doit, i have a suggestion for the next time you get arby's. get whatever you want, but take it home and eat it in front of the biggest mirror you have, and watch yourself while you eat it. i did that a few times, not on purpose though, and i was disgusted by what i saw. and it helped for a very long time to remember how pathetic i looked chowing down on a ridiculous meal while saying i was trying to lose weight. i really think that if you do that it'll help you avoid arby's and the like for a while.

you can do it, ally!

i'm glad you had a good time in spite of the hotel, akela!

that's messed up about your mom's roommate, akasha. but i'm sure she feels a little better b/c you're there for her.

and hi new girls!

hey ladies!

I can't wait for Thanksgiving to give myself a break. Between work and school, I barely have time just to chill. I'm finally accepting that I need to start planning my meals all the time. Cheat weekends/ days are not making me gain any weight, but I don't lose either. On the bright side, as of today, I'm 193 pounds which is my lowest high school weight. I think I was 182 pounds once upon a time in junior high but my "official" lowest weight has been 193. I want to lose more weight, but I definitely need to come up with a strategy to fix my meals before hand.

watchme, good luck with the new food delivery system! I agree with you that eating out constantly is a big obstacle in weight loss. Most foods are full with fat, yesterday I got a salad at school and eventhough I skipped the croutons and tortilla chips they give out for free, I asked for a small serving of salad dressing. I forgot to say the magic "on the side" words and ended up with a ton of lettuce leaves swimming in italian dressing.

dalma, the dress is amazing! and great to show off your arms. I started Pump classes this week and they're exhausting. How long did it take you to see results while using weights?

fallon, *hugs* we're with you girl!

akela, I had a similar problem in a Holiday Inn once. The water was really hot at the pool, so hot that vapor was visible!

ally, we're together in "I-need-to-plan-my-meals" boat now! let's make it happen!

iwill, usually I pour cottage cheese first and cereal on top, so I can pretend I'm eating yogurt. Sometimes I mix it, and eventhough it doesn't look appealing at all, the taste is crunchy and creamy at the same time. I hate soggy cereal, so the crunchiness doesn't bother me. I also like eating fruit with cottage cheese, and I've used it in enchiladas and as a salad topping.

welcome everyone new!

ana, it took me about 4-6 weeks to really notice my arms. you can't see my awesome muscles in any of my pix but they're a tad noticeable in real life. i do have pretty decent biceps and shoulder muscles. you still can't see my triceps of course, b/c most of my remaining arm fat is on the back.

oh yeah, and i think it only took 4-6 weeks to see the beginnings of results b/c i did the whole heavy-weights-low-reps thing. that's where you do 5-7 reps of the heaviest weights you can lift; 3 sets of each. the second you can do 10 reps with a set of weights is the second you go up to the next highest weights. you should be struggling to get the 6th and 7th reps done during each set.

btw, i started preparing my meals ahead of time this week. i'm eating way healthier, w/ larger portions and lower cals, but i've been spending about an hour a night in the kitchen making breakfast and lunch from scratch. no boxed anything.

i made my own pasta sauce last night w/ tomato sauce, sundried tomatoes, a bunch of seasonings and herbs, and a bit of fat free feta. man is it good! i put it on some whole wheat pasta, and now i can't wait till lunch! i think the whole thing is about 300 cals. i made breakfast too, and that was a potato, egg, red pepper and cheese bowl. that came to about 250 cals and was delish and filling, too.

and yay lowest weight!

geez! no one's been on here in 6 hours? not counting me, 7 hours??!?! nuts! oh well.... i had to come back on and let you guys know that i heard back from the boxing class. they have a spot and i'm in! i have to pick up the equipment i need this weekend so i can start the class next week.

hey ladies,

Just turned 21, and the scale has been hanging around the 300 mark.  Seriously. yikes.

I'm 5'10 with a large build, so 150's - 160's would be about perfect.

I am having some trouble getting on board with a kind of workout routine, and I'd like to know what others are doing.  I am working on having bad knees, so anything that is easy on the leg joints would be best.
