Girls 5' and under

Quote  |  Reply

Hi!

I was wondering if we could start supporting eachother.

I'm very short, and unfourtantly all of my weight goes to my stomach b/c it has nowhere else to go/

I want to know if anyone else has this problem and if we can support eachother.

those quesadillas sound delicious...I'll definitely be trying that one soon!

Hi Girls! I'm about 5' too and feel your pain. I shot up to 120 by my senior year in college, and now I'm working my way back to 100. I've got about 8 lbs left to lose. It's frustrating because every pound shows on my petite frame. I work out 3-4 times a week, mostly cardio (eliptical for 40 minutes in intervals), and strength for my arms. I eat about 1000-1200 calories daily-- sticking with high fibers in the morning, and only drinking water through the day (or green tea). Having a full time adult job makes it tough to fit in the exercise and cooking healthy meals. Sometimes I want to be lazy :(

Do you guys know there's a 1500 cals min for teens?

Yea, there is a 1500 min. You should always eat that many or you could potentially stunt your growth and it could lead to other health problems in the future. I keep to 1200, because I am 24. This just happens to be the only group for people 5' and under :)

jbean13 -- that sounds great!  that's exactly what i did last summer and was able to get down to 110 from 135 just a few months earlier.  i went back up to 123 over the course of the year and have been trying to get it off since coming home from school (i'm down to 119 now).  i also had an office job over the summer (same one this summer) but this year i just haven't had the same motivation to go to the gym/be as careful about what i eat.  what do you usually eat/what do you do to work out?  any information would be super helpful!

4"6, 80 bs, and not roud. I have chubby thighs and stomach. I'm always bloated when I eat or drink. HOW CAN I STOP THIS?!? also,....I have a tendancy to eat when I'm bored, it's the worst thing ever.  But I support you all. I'm hoping to lose ten pounds, and yes, in less than 2 weeks. I ATLEAST want to lose 5, but 10 is ideal.

seriosuly.....CRZY! I can't do that, I'd be fat if I did that. and always full. I probably on a REGULAR basis eat 800, unless I'm splurging at a party or friends house or something. I CANNOT manage to eat 1500!!

By the way, I hope I'm not being offensive! I was just looking at some old posts.  I mea, I really am chubby. Everone gains differently. also, because I'm exceptionally short. Alot of guys in my school call me fatty, or short. I have a very loew self confidence. I just, urgh. Don't know how to manage my weight. I'm disgusting, Also SHH! I tried throwing up today, NOTHING came out! I was soo frusterated.

Emily-- It is hard having the office job. The 2-4:30 strech is the hardest for me-- I get tired, hungry and unmotivated. Here's my daily diet (roughly)

-In the AM, I have a bowl of cereal (usually something high in fiber, although I switched to Special K Protein Plus for this week.) I carefully measure things, so it's easier for me to use CC. 3/4 cup of cereal and 1/2 cup of skim milk, and I'm only at 145 ca. for the morning. Sometimes I drink a cup of Tropicana OJ too (get the 50% less sugar kind) and that's only an additional 50 ca. I usually have some hot green tea at work also (or coffee if I'm cheating a bit)

-I eat a snack around 10-10:30-- either fruit or some oatmeal (again, get the 50% less sugar kind-- eliminating as much sugar as you can from your daily diet will help you keep off the lbs.).

-At lunch, I've been drinking those Campbell's Soup at Hands (only 70-80 ca. per cup!) or bringing a homemade salad with lots of leafy veggies and the spray italian dressing (only 5 ca. per squirt!).

-I eat another snack around 3 to keep me going-- usually some carrots or an apple with peanut butter for more protein and fiber (try Smart Balance brand.)

-Then I head to the gym (m-w-th-sat) and usually do the elliptical training for 35 minutes on the interval setting (I find that it burns the most calories in a short period of time and it buffs up my stumpy legs)-- then I cool down on the treadmill for another 10-15 minutes. Twice a week, I mix in light lifting (arm curls) to tone up my arms.

-Dinners vary for me-- I try to grill some chicken or pork with some long grain brown rice and a veggie, or make a wheat pasta with turkey meatballs. I keep my calories low during the day, so I can have a good dinner after a work out.

I hope this helps you out-- this is a good and HEALTHY way to keep calories down and lose the weight the right way. (So I find anyway-- if anyone has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them!)

Ali, your comments bother me a bit. How old are you? You might still be a growing girl, and not having the proper intake can stunt your growth. 800 calories is not healthy no matter how short you are. You can increase the calories and still eat healthy-- replace your binge eating you do when your "bored" with healthy snacks like fruit and veggies and your calorie intake will increase in a good way. Your body still needs those nutrients no matter how small you may be. My sister went through the binging and purging as a teenager, and is not stuck at 4'10" and still unhappy with her body. Maybe you should seek treatment froma nutritionist.

Ali --> I'm 4' 10" and agree that at such a short height it seems like you should be cutting back even more on your calories than everyone else, but you CAN (and should) eat more than 800. When I first started on CC I refused to believe that I could drop the pounds at 1200 calories and I restricted to around 1000 or even lower. I lost weight, but was starting to get really grumpy because I was always hungry. I know now that I was hurting my chances of getting and staying healthy, so fortunately I kicked myself in the butt and increased to 1200. I was shocked that after three weeks at 1200 calories I had lost another 3 pounds. I guess that proves that CC knows what they are talking about!

You don't look fat in your profile picture at all. Maybe you would feel more fit if you worked out a bit more? That would tone you up and make you look and feel thinner. Plus, exercising means you get to eat more! Laughing

Purging will never make you happy with your weight, but I congratulate you on having the courage to admit to trying something like that. You'll find a lot of support on these forums and you should continue to confide in the members here if you are having any problems. You may also want to speak with your family doctor or one of your parents if this is something you are really struggling with.

Remember, good things come in small packages, and you happen to be one of them.

Thanks for the support! But the thing is--I know 800 seems like too little, but i'm not, hungry. I would feel wierd trying to stuff my face to get 1500.  Because, I wouldn't be hungry for it. I feel overly full with the 800 I do eat. SO, I know excercizing is super healthy. I LOVE it too! It's alot of fun. Also, the binge/purge thing was just me not thinking and feeling disgusting and was aching. ALso, Thanks for the concern! I am trying. on another ot, I dont think a doctor is required, I've never actually purged, but tohught about it. ANd I  dont think  I will ever get the gutts to.

I know you probably have heard this already, but undereating will lead you to feeling hungry less often because your stomach shrinks. Once you start eating more calories, you'll feel hungry again and wonder what the h%^& you were doing only eating 800 calories :o)

Ultimately you'll wind up doing whatever you feel is best, but maybe try upping your calories to 1200 and see what happens with your weight. You may gain initially, but then you'll level off. I know it sounds scary (we're little, and let's face it, even a little extra weight seems to show more), but you'll feel and look better in the long run.

Best of luck!

THanks! I've been upping my cals. but not drastically so my body can take it in. but also, I can't aford to gain weight t the moment. becase, I'm going to las vegas to be a model i a runway and i have to wear a bathingsuit (ahhh!) so yeah, /I'm doing my best!

hi girls!  who's down for some weekly weigh-ins?

i'm down 1 pound this week, from 120 to 119.  not a lot, but better than nothing!  i figure the weigh-ins are good for me b/c it gives me a goal, and makes me more accountable.  feel free to add in your progress!

I like the weekly weigh in... how about we pick a day like Friday to do it? So then it's just once a week.

I've got the flu right now, so I'm cheating a bit :( Woof.

I confess...I'm not 5'. I'm almost 5' 2". But there are no short clubs around.

You guys should all be in gymnastics, yo. I'm on a team and it's like a short-person club. I'm the tallest. Good luck, Ali!

I don't know what I weigh, because I don't have a scale. I know I'm supposed to be eating 1500 Calories on sedentary days, but usually it's more like 1300...the problem is that according to that one youth calorie thingy, I burn 1700 Calories being lazy. So that's only a 200 Calorie deficit. Which is LAME. Also, when I work out at gymnastics, it says I burn 2800 Calories a day. On gym days, I usually eat 1500 - 1800, so that's better. Although I really don't believe I burn 2800...

I love CalorieCount; it has really helped me to learn to make better choices in my eating, or at least eat less when I make bad ones!

Your BMI is currently 19.6 and according to

 http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html

You are at a perfectly healthy weight for your height, and do not need to lose .You burn anywhere from 1350-2260 calories a day with 1350 being with NO ACTIVITY whatsoever, being that you exercise you are probably nearer to the 1600-1800 calorie range. NO TEEN SHOULD EVER EAT LESS THAN 1500. PERIOD!!

CC and its members cannot encourage or assist you in your goals of losing to place you at an unhealthy weight.  I kindly suggest that you reevaluate your goal weight to a healthier range.

Have you consulted a physician to assess and discuss your current weight?

How many calories did you consume to reach your current weight?

Remember, it is not all about what the number on the scale says... You can in fact be "thinner" at a higher weight by lowering your BF% and gaining muscle while remaining at a healthy weight.  Also remember that the more active you are, the more calories your body requires.

So please take the time to consult your physician, research the effects an unhealthy weight has on your body, and the proper amount of calories required for your body to function.  I will find some later tonight and post them as well. :)

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to PM me.

I just came back from france and ate so much chocolate and croissants andfood in general that i thought id have gained like 5 pounds (fat pounds too not water weight) and it turns out ive actually lost. I'm so happy but can't see how this is possible!

alibassett-

your comments scare me. you do not look chubby in your picture. and if you have self-esteem issues I really don't think you should go model, that's a really bad environment for someone with low self-confidence!

Hi, guys!

I have a similar story to Emily. I'm just barely under 5'1", my starting weight for this site was 119lbs. I had dropped to about 112 last October with virtually no effort and maintained that loss for several months but the weight just crept back on since moving to Spokane Valley in late February. I'm trying to eat 1200 calories a day, I seem to be doing that but to be honest, it is with rather unhealthy food. It sounds like a bit of a cop out, but healthy food is a little out of my price range. If anyone has any ideas for affordable, easy to prepare foods, all suggestion are welcome!

As for activity: I work an office job, and for some reason I'm usually exhausted when I get home. I don't have the energy to work out, though I'd love to. I'd like to join a gym with a friend but I don't know anyone in the area =\

My first goal is to reach 110lbs. I'd like to reach that before I leave for vacation on August 28th but that is probably a little unreasonable. My ultimate goal is 105lbs; I weighed that once upon a time and I looked and felt healthy. I don't want to be stick thin, I want to be fit.

hi panswerbj0rne - we have exactly the same stats and goals!  freakyyy!  haha okay, we'll we will have to see how long this lasts, but the last few days I have upped my calories from 1200 to 1400 and cooled off a bit with my exercise (i'll still walk every day for between 30-60 minutes, but that's less intense cardio than what  i was doing before) and it has really helped me lose weight!  CC always said i should consume 1200 to lose, which i believed since i'm so short (a little less than 5'1"), but since we are so young, i don't think we realize how many calories we burn every day just doing our normal activities.  my deficit between cals burned and cals consumed is probably between 250-500 now, where as before when i was only eating 1200 and working out more intensely it was upwards of an 800 cals burn deficit, which is way too much.  i never believed it before, but really sometimes your body will go into starvation mode, so just by upping your calories a little bit you can re-jump start your metabolism.  good luck!
