5 8'' girls weight/height/size

Quote  |  Reply

I saw the thread for the 5'7'' and 5'8'' girls weight/height/size... and saw that many girls are aroudn 5 7'' and 115-120 lbs... and some skinnier ones. One concern is whether you guys are still having your periods....because when I was115lbs, I did NOT get my period and I am around this height... My lowest was 113lbs and I started getting scared because my spinal bones were starting to stick out. It was disgusting. So if you are trying to lose weight and you start becoming irregular or lose your period, then you need to stop...because that's what happened to me. Although I did not have an eating disorder, I started exercising and so went from 125lbs to 115lbs (avg) and then along that experience lost my periods for 1.5years. The doctor wanted to put me on the pill but I refused because those manmade hormones...are not bad but not good either and I wanted to make sure that my body did not have some other problem. But now, only like 3-4lbs heavier, I got my periods back. So, if anyone is suffering from ammenorrhea, just message me or something...and all girls who are trying to reach a very low weight, just listen to your body and make sure that you don't lose your period... because this is THE time to be building up your bone mass...which is greatly affected by your circulating estrogen levels. So yea...just be CAREFUL!!

Unfortunately many of the teens on this website are either recovering from eating disorders or are imbeciles. I just hope your message gets through. Even then 5'8 and 120 is still underweight, and as well as amennorhoea you have risk of osteoporosis, hair loss, electrolyte problems, a weakening of the immune system, low blood pressure, blood disorders such as anemia, heart problems, and even death. And physical symptoms aren't the only ones, as depression is common in underweight individuals, as well as distorted perceptions and problems like Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

Still. Don't be surprised if few people listen. I've personally given up on this part of CC.

Congratulations on being one of the few people on this section of the forum that make well intentioned and well thought out posts. Seriously, I hate to sound harsh but Ellie is totally right... while I think you've given out a great message, there seem to be a lot of people on here who are barely making an effort to disguise what on other websites would be called 'pro-ana.'

woohoo!!! thank you for posting this!!! Those posts drive me crazy and are part of the reason I've stopped posting on this site as often as I used to. There's only so much I can say before I'm just frustrated that no one listens. I especially hate the ones where girls want to compare their clothing sizes or measurements or weights. They are usually very unhealthy weights that just make everyone else feel inadequate or not thin enough/ pretty enough, etc, when that's not true at all. The important thing is being a healthy weight and having a healthy body image. The number does not reflect who you are or what you are capable of and should not determine your self worth.

In fact I wrote in to a fitness website just today because I went to an article about finding fun ways to exercise and the cover model was skin and bones- clearly not "fit" and not a good representation for an article on exercise when I doubt she has the energy or strength to do much more than pose for the camera, not to mention a host of other problems. It was just wrong when women and girls are looking to this article to become healthier and might think that this skeleton is "healthy".

Funny how these life experiences have turned us all into advocates!

Thank you for your post! =) More girls need to listen to what you have to say. I battled anorexia and over-exercise disorder last year and struggled with the help of two of my friends and my mom to take steps to recover before it got any worse. At my lowest, I was 120 lbs and 5'10. When I dislocated my knee cap and tore my meniscus (probably partly due to muscle loss and weak bones), I was sidelined for nearly 8 months. This time period was the absolute hardest for me, but i did not restrict and i have gained back about 7-8 lbs over those months. I haven't had my period in over 1.5 years, but I am hoping to have it again soon because I know that if this goes on much longer, I will not be able to have children and I don't think I could handle that.

If only girls could realize what they do now to damage their bodies, may have serious consequences on their futures. Again, thank you for the inspiration to keep pushing through the hard days. =)

i am 5'7 and weigh 140 pounds, i wear a size 3 or 5 in pants depending the brand and am usually a medium in shirts.

i would like to get down to 130 pounds but not any lower.

hahahha ! i laughed out loud at that :P

Hey guys,

Really positive post - love it! I am in a similar boat to you in terms of height and weight or weight goals.

If possible it would be great if you are able to share some info on how you went about recovery in terms of eating, exercise, emotional issues as there don't seem to be too many of us on this forum with the height and weight stats that we have and I think this makes us a bit different from those with others.

Thanks!

Although I do like this post, I just wanted to add my input. I'm 15, 5'8", and 120 lbs. I am a runner so my doctor said I am at a perfect weight. Also, I do get my period. However, I guess it just matters for different people.

As for jean sizes, I can wear either 3 long or 5, depending on the store.

im 5'8 and 150 lbs and i wear an 11 in jeans.. i know i have huge hips... im almost 19 and i still dont get a regular period, and i am definitely not underweight. i found your post very interesting and i get kind of upset when i read people talking about their measurements when its obvious they are very thin...

I'm 5'8 3/4"(practically 5'9") but I'm currently about 115, and have no idea what size I wear honestly. All my old clothes from my disgustingly low weight are too small, and all my clothes from pre-ed are too big. Sooo I'd guess a 3/4 maybe?

I agree with OP :O

I'm 5'8''-5'9''. I weight around 155. I'm 15, size 8/10 jeans. Trying to get to around 140-145.

wow.  granted, i'm a bit older than most of you probably--21--but i'm just about 5'8" and I am trying to get to 155 to 160.  I am wide frame, and fairly muscular, and when I was at 165 last, I was quite comfortable with myself at a size 8.  At 155, I would probably be a 6/7.  I don't see the point in getting any lower, if I am at a healthy BMI, and at a jean size that is proportonate to my height, with enough curves to actually fill out a dress.  I hope those girls know what they're doing when they're trying to get down to 110 at the same height, because you couldnt pay me to.
