Glad to be a vegan!

Quote  |  Reply

As of last night when it was announced on the news that the FDA had approved cloned meat for human consumption, I'm even more happy to have become a vegan.

I haven't done a lot of research on the subject, but does anyone else have an opinion on this?  It just seems wrong.

I know, it is seriously disgusting but the fact that it's cloned or just bred for meat doesn't really make much difference in the way that in boths cases the animal's only purpose in life is to become food.

vile stuff though...
Why bother with that?  I  don't understand why clonning is better than breeding like they have been doing?  But I do agree, raising animals for food is wrong.  It is like people forget that animals are people too, whith a desire to live a full healthy life of comfort, just like humans.  Animals don't want to die and be dinner!  So so wrong.
Animals are not people, people are animals!!

The breeding of food animals is SO manipulated now I don't really see the big deal in cloning them.  Did you know they have machines that sort sperm into male and female?  Someone invented that, for cows.  They are all so far away from their wild ancestors that it doesn't really bother me.  Soon they won't even be able to breed on their own.  Weird times.

I am still glad I don't eat them though!

PS- Deer don't want to die to become food, neither do quail, or termites, not even celery wants to die to feed someone.  Such is life.

Ummm.... celery?  Celery doesn't have feelings.   Wink

Of course it doesn't.  I was just making a point that nothing wants (biologically) to die in order to feed another organism.

There are actually people who will not kill anything to eat.  This means no carrots, no lettuce, no CELERY...they will only eat seeds and fruit which the plants "give' them.  I don't know the name of this (not sure if its the same as fruitarians) but I call them "slightly delusioned".

 But about them cloned animals....

*Pheeeewww!!!* I thought you were serious, and more than slightly delusioned, but didn't want to offend...... or out right call you crazy! (thank goodness for the invention of the smiley faces to soften the blow!). There's always someone who takes it to the extreme!!
I don't think Animals can even be compared to people.  How can you even compare such a thing?  I don't think you should torture animals or anything, But comparing an animal to a person is wrong, In my source of truth and belief.
I just think it's nasty eating them.

What the hell? How do you know what animals 'desire'? Have you ever taken even the most basic animal science study?

Have you?

Tell us all about it.

Okay, dude ya'll need to get a grip. Humans ARE animals. And animals eat eachother. The only research I had to do for that was to turn on national geographic.

I have canine teeth (like carnivores/omnivores), my eyes are in the front of my head (like carnivores/omnivores) AND I also have very developed foreharms with which to grab a weapon to eat food with.

a) morals were invented

b) survival and morals cannot co-exist when it comes down to starving or not.
Of course if there is no plant based food to be found, a human would resort to eating another animal. Humans can digest both plants and animals, therefore we're omnivors. We are opportunistic feeders.

I looked into this thread cos it had such a positive title "Glad to be a vegan" and as I shared the same feeling I thought I would read into it (a little late as it appears that the thread has now died) but in case anyone still does "check in" to have a  look I thought I would add my opinion.  Having been a member on CC only a week I am dismayed that so many of the threads in the veg/vegan area have become so abusive and ultimately have just closed down.  Most times it appears that meat eaters or people who just enjoy flaming like to sabotage just for the so-called fun of it.
