Definitely kudos to Glamour on this one. I love that picture of Lizzie Miller. It's still a damn shame they are considered plus size, but hey, baby steps.

A little confused about how Demi Moore is one of the most real women out there seeeing that half of her face is plastic...

But kudos for the regular girls :D

I cannot wait to look like one of these women. They are gorgeous!

stunning!

Uh, none of them appeared plus size to me. Am I the only one? They looked like they wear maybe size 10-12.

These wemon were on "Ellen" and said "plus sized" in the modeling industry is anything size 6 and up...If I was a 6 I would feel like a stick! As was said..baby steps!

Beautiful! ....but I didn't see how they were plus size.

I don't see plus size. :/

Plus size people would have to go to a different department in a store to buy clothes. These girls can shop anywhere.

Actually, I think I have to rant on Glamour for this one a little bit. They advertise "plus size women naked" or whatever in order to sell magazines, then plus-size women will buy the magazines, and see these normal-weight or very slightly overweight (but not plus-size) women, and feel even bigger and uglier - wait, if these are plus-size what the hell am I? - and also she won't quite look like that naked so none of the positive comments will do anything nice at all for her self-esteem, already torn to shreds by the very culture Glamour is promoting. I don't give a good **** whether in modeling they are considered plus-size. In modeling 5'8" is considered short, yet whenever they run specials on "clothes for short women", they get women who are 5'2" because they know that 5'8" would not be taken seriously by their readership as "short". But they expect us to swallow a size 8-12 as "plus-size"?

Well I've often repeated 'models' are not really like the general public. I don't care what size they are, they still have to meet a certain set of body criteria.

Nope - I noticed that too.  The girl on the floor on the left side has some very shapely legs - she doesn't particularly look "plus size."  I was under the impression that "plus size" meant above size 14 - none of those girls look beyond that by a long shot.

I know that technically, in comparison to the normal girl you see on a runway, yes, a size 10 is "plus", but seriously....

Although, I agree with the baby steps thing.

I saw this issue and it's a mature idea and all... but, I hate hate hate hate Glamour. Their motivation is money, like any business. I think it's a good step, those models are probably fairly healthy (yay finally!), and it helps spread acceptance when we need it. But honestly it's probably just a trend. 17 did the same thing (Size 14 Model Shoot), and I'm sure others like Vogue and Cosmo have as well.

My sister is a size 6, and she could fit in this shoot. But that's still saying something. Anything above a size 2 is apparently really pushing it as far as runway modeling goes. And anyways, I guess doing something right for the wrong reasons still counts. :)

I notice a lot of you are saying, "Those girls don't look like a size --!"

Remember that, runway model or plus-sized model, these girls are tall! A girl who is 5'6" (the average woman's height) who is a size 10 looks very different than a girl who is 5'10" + and is a size 10.

But damn those girls are gorgeous! :)

What's the definition of plus-sized? They definitely looked overweight to me. Some of those girls had rolls of fat. I'm not denying their beauty - I think they're gorgeous! - but I think their health risks would be greatly reduced if they were smaller.

Was able to quickly look up weights of two of the models - lizzie miller (5'11", 175 lbs) and crystal renn (5'9", 180 lbs) - and both are at or fairly near an "ideal weight" - 12 lbs over, in crystal renn's case. I imagine that the other women are the same. Remember too that they are all exceptionally tall, and one thing we do know is that BMI becomes less useful on the upper limits of height. No doctor would tell them to lose weight for health reasons. BMI under 27 is not associated with any increased health risks. (And Crystal's weight seems to mostly be in the hips and thighs, which is not associated with increased health risks). Both of them have waist measurements that are acceptable in terms of heart health.

So no, they aren't risking their health. We seem, as a culture, to have forgotten that it is normal for women's bodies to have fat, indeed twice the body fat percentage of men, and when women twist themselves into jacknives etc. their fat will create little bumps.  I blame photoshop. Look at the portfolio of this studio to see what I mean - even skinny celebrities have little rolls!

To me they looked like beautiful normal-sized girls. I don't think they "definitely look overweight"... If they did, that must be by a very narrow standard of what constitutes healthy.

Um and those 'rolls of fat' are actually due to the way that they have the girls sitting. Look closely, think of the angles & such. I betcha if they stood up, those rolls wouldn't be so well rolly.

I'm willing to give Glamour props for just putting normal (read healthy) women in the magazine, what ever label they want to slap on them this week they are far, far more attractive than the unnaturally skinny silhouette of the average model.

Sorry, that was just my opinion. I guess some people hold their weight better than others, but I know at my highest weight my BMI was 24.2. I was very close to overweight, yet I still looked much smaller than these girls in the photo shoot. It's just to me they looked over a BMI of 25, but I guess it's possible I just hold my weight well.

oh  yes you are right, people do hold weight differently, no question about that. my friend who is a plus model basically has a flat stomach, she's an amazon, however i have friends who are defo thinner than her & their stomachs don't look as flat. it just depends where the weight distributes.
