gnocchi calories problem
So last night I made Vigo gnocchi. And of course it was starchy and delicious, but on the bag it said 3/4 cup is 210 calories and that there were four servings. I measured out 3/4 of a cup and there was only one serving left!
What does that mean? I decided I would count it as two servings (which was okay, since I had enough calories left--but I was going to have dessert!)
What's the deal with that? I don't think I measured wrong, because I measured after cooking, meaning that the gnocchi is plumper (meaning I would get fewer to a cup).
It's so aggravating to have conflicting information like that!
What do you guys think? Which is correct?
next time try and measure before cooking. as you said, they plumped after cooking, so it could easily be that the manufacturers are measuring when frozen. it might be that they do that so you can measure out individual portions even when frozen (but that could just be my rational mind thinking :P)
You need to check the weight for before cooking. For example when cooking pasta it will say 2oz is a serving size but after cooking those 2 ounces make up a cup. Was there anything on the bag that said a serving size before cooking?
It said there were four servings, but it didn't mention whether that was before or after cooking. I just thought that it would be a smaller portion if I measured after--pasta bulks up after cooking, so I would get less gnocchi in 3/4 cup after it's cooked than before.
Next time I make gnocchi I will weigh it. I didn't weigh it last time--I just measured.
