I know that bmi doesn't take muscle content etc. into account. but girls, what's your approximate goal bmi?
mine: 18.5
current: 19.2-20.0
a) your "goal" bmi is borderline underweight. i don't know about you, but borderline underweight means you're barely healthy.. and i don't understand why you would want to be barely healthy. seriously, think about it.
b) bmi charts are pointless. skinny fat people LOOK fat but have a low bmi's. lean/toned people LOOK skinny but usually have a higher bmi's. compare amy winehouse with jessica alba. who probably has the lower bmi? but who looks 100 times better? focus on being toned!
c) to answer your question, my bmi goal is non-existant. i've been obsessed with those charts before, during the worst time of my ed. 18.5 was my goal too. i reached it, but was still flabby and unhappy. now i've gained about 7 pounds since i started exercising (cardio/weights) 4-6 times a week but look so much thinner. my bmi is higher but it doesn't bother me one bit as long as i still fit into my skinny jeans.
my advice to you is that you forget about your bmi goal.. because it's just a number that doesn't take into account SO many factors. eat right, exercise regularly and go by how you look.. since that's how others judge your appearance, right? i mean they don't carry around scales or bmi charts and yell out numbers at you when they see you.. they just use their eyes. if you look good and FEEL good, that's all that matters. if you really want a way to numerically track your progress though, buy a measuring tape or a body fat % tool. weight and bmi's are non-sense.
good luck! ![]()
Mine is 21-22. I don't pay so much attention to BMI though because like the previous poster said, your BMI doesn't take into consideration the composition of your body. Really, we should set goals based on body fat %. Mine right now is 27%, I'd like to be around 22%
thanks cherri... i've been going back and forth these days about losing weight.. i would say that i am a bit too obssessed with numbers... thanks for your advice... i came home for winter break, so now i don't have a weigh with me. Let's see how i do these days without weighing myself every single morning. again, thanks & happy holidays! :)
My goal BMI is 25 (or 24.9 or whatever's the top end of "healthy"). That'll put me at a weight I haven't seen since I was about 13 years old. I honestly don't know how much lower than that I could reasonably go because I have a medium frame and a fairly muscular build. I might *maybe* be able to get down to a BMI of 22 or so, but I'll decide whether or not I want to try that once I hit 25.
I just like the idea of "officially" being healthy - even though I'm already down to the middle of the "acceptable" bodyfat% range. My goal BMI will put me well into the "fit" bodyfat% range - and I kind of like the idea of "officially" being fit as well. ![]()
My goal BMI is ~22. It's the weight and size where I was most in shape and happy with the way I looked. I've gotten down from 25.5 to 23.3, so I'm pretty happy now, but I think if I keep eating healthy and exercising regularly, I'll eventually settle down somewhere around 22.
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
