With my settings at moderately active ( I w/o 4-5 times a week for usually 60:00, Im  26, female, 5'6 and 225lbs) my burn meter says i burn 2,760 calories a day. I try to eat about 1,700...somedays more (today its ~2,100) sometimes less.

Is this good to lose about a pound a week? What should my goal deficit be? (I know these arnt exact numbers just using it as something to look at to measure daily sucess.

TIA!

Actually, if you are burning 2760, it would be fine to aim closer 2200 - a daily deficit of 500 calories will yield 1lb lost per week (1lb fat = 3500 calories = 500 cal * 7 days).

Steph,

You need to have a deficit of 3,500 calories per week to lose 1 lb per week.  If you maintain a deficit of 500-1000 per day, you should lose between 1 & 1 1/2 lbs per week.

Good luck!  Smile

These people above are correct.  It's also worth noting that, in general terms, more than a 1,000 calorie deficit per day (give or take) will not have a significantly better effect.  If you hit 1,800 or 1,900 (or even 2,100) calories a day, I wouldn't sweat it - especially if you're hungry, your body just wants nutrients.

Also, it's nice to see someone with realistic goals and a realistic way of doing things.  I see people on here suggesting they eat 1,200 calories per day and frankly I'm not sure how.

Speaking from experience, your approach of exercise and eating a little under 2,000 calories should/is more effective than their most likely futile (in the long run) "diet"
