Has anyone else with irregular periods been prescribed PROMETRIUM, a progeterone hormone to induce a period?  If so, have you used clomid with it to get pregnant successfully?

take care

From reading your previous post, I know that this is a serious issue for you.  I have no experience with Clomid, but I wanted to express my sincere hope that you are able to conceive soon!  I'll keep you in my t's & p's! :)

Hi,I have very irregular periods and my doctor wont put me on anything to get pregnant untill I lose 50lbs!I wish she would cause I want kids so bad,but I cant get pregnant!CryWell I wish you luck!

Have you considered joining Fertility Friend. I think its like $30 a year or something. You can chart your cycles and also talk to other women who are trying to conceive.

I too have irregular cycles and have been ttc for 3.5 years. I have done prometrium and clomid and they have not worked for me but that does not mean that they will not work for you. Good Luck!

Have the Dr's discovered why you are having irregular cycles?

I know how you feel. I stopped having my period and gaind 30 pounds and the doctor said that I need to loose 25 pounds before my periods come back and before I can get pregnant. To date, I am having irregular periods. I really really really want kids and this was very hard for me to hear!!!!!!!!!!! Since then I have joined this site and am down 15 pounds, but I still want to be pregnant NOW! My doctor won't give me anything to help me until I loose the weight and more......

i have very irregular periods and annovulation, i was on provera and clomid but no pregnancy, i have a 5yr old girl but i haven't been able to conceived again. god knows why. i was suggested to loose about 10-20% of my current weight to see if that increases the chances of pregnancy reason why i joined this site so far is working lets see when my dream will come true, well good luck to you .. best regards.Laughing karma

wow, this is one of the many reasons I'm trying to loose weight.  kekri and erin duke, your doc's told you to lose weight.  What range did they want you to get into before prescribing meds?  A long time ago my periods became irregular and I have no idea what weight I was at the time.  Was in college maybe, so a bit lighter.  But it scares me to think I'm won't be able to.  Hubby always tells me not to worry about it now, since we're not going to plan anything for another 2 years maybe.

Hi liza! My doctor noticed that since August 2007 to April 2008 my weight continued to go up. So I was up 30 pounds. My doctor told me that my body stopped ovulating cause with the weight gain, it saw ovulating as a bad thing. My doctor said that I had to loose 25 plus pounds. She wanted me to go from 265 to 200 ideally and that is when I found this site to change my life. When I heard the doctor say that at my current weight, I could not have kids just broke my heart. I am only 23 and I want to have a family and go through this wonderful experience. Since then I am currently down 15 pounds and I have been experiencing some spot bleeding so I hope this is a sign that my body is ovulating again. My doctor gave me prometrium to try and get my periods to come back. I have not started to take it yet.
She said that when I get to a lower weight and if I still can't get pregnant then she will give me something to help me along; however, she wanted to see the weight gone first. My boyfriend and I have been trying for about a year and a half now. In August of 2007 I had a miscarriage and since then all the tests have been negative and then I developed the above issues.

I was prescribed Prometrium before I got pregnant with my son who is 17 months now.  I had not had a period for a year when I started the prometrium, really all it did was make me have a period.  I have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) which is caused by blood sugar levels and hormone imbalance.  The prometrium in my opinion did nothing to help me get pregnant.  After a year of taking it, I saw a different DR who said I could continue it but also had me start taking Metphormin which is a Diabetic medication.  My fasting blood sugars were at 102, which I understand is the high side of normal, but not a diabetic level.  The new DR also suggested I try the South Beach diet to lose weight.  I stopped taking the prometrium and after 3 months and 45 pounds lighter I was not taking the metphormin any more, my periods were closer to normal and I got pregnant.  I would suggest talking to your Dr more about it, but for me the trick seemed to be losing weight.  I am now pregnant again after trying for about 5 months (a lot faster that 2.5 years) and I had lost about 12 pounds this time.  I really think a lot of my infertility issues were related to my weight.  Good Luck.

Amanda, Thank you so much for posting this. I was beginning to get worried after trying for a little over a year now. I'm hoping to start taking the prometrium by monday. Since my periods have stopped I have been activly dieting and exercising and since April, I'm down 15 pounds by being on the calorie diet. Since my weight has been on the way down, I have had one normal period last month and this month has been nothing put spotting, so I'm hoping that this is a sign that pretty soon my cycles will be back to normal. The doctor also said that there is a lot of lining built up from not having a period and the prometrium will help to shed that lining.

Also congratulations on your second child!!!!!!!

Thanks. I read your journal postings and it seems we are pretty similar.  When I first began taking prometrium I weighed about 270.  My Dr said a 10% wieght loss could be enough to get things back to normal.  I know my Dr said she wanted me to lose a little more before getting pregnant too, but she never asked me to wait until I got down to a specific weight.  Hopefully things will work out for you too. Also, if you are trying to get pregnant the prometrium can cause a miscarraige, my Dr advised me to take a pregnancy test every month before taking the prometrium again (just thought you would want to know that). Oh and prepare yourself, taking that test every month and it coming back negative can be very depressing, but you probably already know that.

Thanks for the advice. She never told me about the miscarriage. A matter of fact, she told me that if I took the prometrium and was pregnant that it wouldn't harm anything. Which if you thinkg about it does not make any sense...lol. Doctor's these days.
Yeah, I know what you mean about the pregnancy tests.

Thanks again!
