Is my goal realistic? Tips to sticking with it?

Quote  |  Reply

I am female, 22 years old, 5'9" and 162lbs. The past few months I have been trying to loose weight. I started out at 169lbs and I have gotten as low as 155.5lbs. I am yo-yoing. My goal is to get to 130-140lbs. I do not know what would look healthy so I want to decide when I get closer to the target. I also want to loose 2lbs a week, putting me at my goal of 130 at around mid-September.

The caloric calculator suggested to maintain my current weight to intake 2100 calories ... s o to loose 2lbs/week I would need to reduce that to 1500 and burn 400 calories a day. [added]

Is this goal realistic? healthy?

Any tips on sticking to it? I seem to be either all in or all out, hence the yo-yoing.

actually, 5'9" in height would be healthy if you are 150 lbs.. that's the ideal.. you just have to maintain it. just be patient all the time..

I am 23 and 5'8" I started at 170 in september and have gone down to 138 my original goal was 130 but now I am thinking I might go as low as 125.  It really depends on your frame size, the ideal at 5'8" for a small frame is between 125-139.  The closer you get to your goal the better you will be able to determine what your ideal will be.

regardless of your goal (although I also think 130 is a little low for someone 5'9"), your math is correct, if you are burning 2100 before exercise, burning 400 w/exercise, and eating 1500 -- then you should lose about 2 lb per week.

However:

1-- nothing is definite, everyone's body is different

2-- almost no one loses 2 lb per week every week

3-- an overly restrictive '"diet" will usually lead to a binge of some sort.

is there a reason you have to hit that goal by mid-September?  Set your first goal at 150, see how you look, how you feel, and how easy/hard it was to take off that weight.  If it all works and you can take off some more --set 140 as your goal -- you might be more than satisfied with that.

Remember, these are but numbers -- and really, no one but yourself (and maybe a medical professional) needs to know that number.  How you look, feel and how healthy you are are the most important thing
