Hey everyone - got a quick question..
Right now, I'm in the process of gaining weight before I go off to college mid-August. I'm at 99.5ish lbs, and have to get to 110.
My question is: Is 110 at 5'7" a good, healthy weight, or should I try to keep gaining at college even after I reach that?
I have a small/medium frame, and am pretty athletic - I run every morning 2-4 miles and lift weights every other day, and swim fairly often.

Using a child/teen BMI calculator (my assumption is that you're about 17, since you leave for college this summer), your BMI would be 17.2 if you weighed 110 at 5'7". This is considered underweight. I think your goal should be revised upward.
Incidentally, if you're having trouble gaining weight, you should definitely think about seeing a healthcare professional to try to determine the possible causes of this...
Good luck, and have a great time in school! :)

Do you think it definitely should be, or is 110 okay? Because if it's alright health-wise to stick there, I probably will. I do want to be thin - just thin in a healthy way.
I think that 110 is pretty low and will be more and more difficult to maintain as you get older without some major restrictions to your diet or severe excersize. I think at your height 130lbs would be much easier (and still very thin).
I think that focusing on a certain weight number is a bad idea. I would just try to eat as normally as possible, be aware of when I am falling into bad habits and get out of them, and just enjoy college and have fun. At 5'7" you will appear "thin" and gorgeous well into 150lbs, even 160lbs. I know that probably sounds crazy to you, but that has been my experience.
Try to focus on being happy and your weight or size wont seem so important. Please dont worry about it so much. You wont gain tonnes of weight unless you over eat a lot. So just focus on eating healthfully and you will be -- and "thin" as well. Its really that simple. Its the trappings of some ideal number and the like that cause difficulties.

Out of curiosity, are you at such a low weight because you are naturally thin or because you were starving yourself?
I'm recovering from an ED, yes. Pre-ED I weighed 125-130 but could definitely have used a 5-10 lb. weight loss.
I think that as long as you are healthy, then what's on the scale really doesn't matter. Also, because you are so athletic, you should expect to see a weight increase from muscle too. 120 lbs would probably look great on you, especially if it mostly muscle gain.
Personally, I think that at your height, 110 will be too little. I think you should shoot for at least 120, but I'm no doctor, so I don't know what will be healthy for you. I suggest speaking with one to find out where you need to be that will be the healthiest.
And congrats on your road to recovery from your ED. It's not an easy task. Good luck :)

I think that you should continue to gain a little more than that. I am 5'7 and 137 and I know that if I was at 110 I would be a stick figure. I was a competitive swimmer in high school and around then I weighed about 130. You seem to have very healthy habits and more weight would put you in healthy BMI range.
Don't they say it's hard to NOT gain weight in college?
You should probably ask a doc about what weight is healthy. Start with getting to 110 & see how you feel. Also, not necessarily to answer here but to yourself, do you get a regular cycle? That's a good way to know if you're healthy. If not, but it comes back by 110, maybe it's ok. But again, I'm not a doctor, ya know.
Good luck!

For what it's worth - I think you should just eat healthy, and not worry about calories. The weight will come back on its own if you just eat healthy.
i think at 5'7 110 is FAR too thin! you are going to have to limit yourself way to much to maintain that. i would suggest aiming for 120-125. you will still be very thin, but i would think that is a much healthier weight for you. with the amount you exercise you must be very fit, so the extra weight at 120 is just going to look great on you!
Wow! Thanks everyone for all your responses!
I guess the consensus is basically: just let your body figure out where it's most comfortable...?? I'm at 100-101 right now, and don't have my period back yet, so I know this is enough.. I guess I'll have to wait and see where that comes back, and that should give me a pretty good idea, right?
I wish I had a good way for measuring my body fat percentage.. what is the most accurate way to do it at home without having to buy equipment for it? Does plugging measurements into a calculator work fairly well?
