goals for the competitive year
What are your goals for the upcoming competitive year. I am about to hit the swimming season. With that I am looking at a few of my personal best times I would love to beat. Would be even better if I could get that state time on the 100 breast stroke. ;) 1:14, I am a long way off from that.
Than the outlook is into the copetitive Tri. season. Love to beat my time of last year. i am not sure that I can do it this year. BUT now that I know the course I am looking to try and get about 20 min. off the last sprint time. which is going to take a lot of hard work and determination. I have 4 tri's on the books for next summer. so it is inside the house for training from now untill end of April. I get some running outside with my boy. But, That is quick to change. Halloween is coming fast. not very often that we go trick or treating without our snowsuits and there being snow on the ground.... But I digress.....
What are your goals?
How are you going to get there?
Jenn
I would love to get into swimming...haven't gone there yet.
Currently, I am training for a marathon (my first) in February.
Then a couple of months after that, I will complete the MS150 for the 5th time. I am going to try to cut 30 min off of my time for each day of the event.
For training, I am a member of AustinFit (USA Fit) that will help me to get to my marathon goal. And during my running training, I am going to be consistent with at least two spin classes a week with an occasional outside ride until I get the marathon out of the way. Then I will step up my outside game on the bike.
Who knows, if I accomplish both of these well, maybe I will train for an Ironman. Wow...the idea of that seems so wild.
snow!...wow, I forget what it looks like![]()
i would like to be able to get at least 2 or 3 sprint triathlons in next year and finish the year off big with one olympic distance.
My goals on the off season (now until spring) are to cancel my gym membership (I never go there anyway), and join somewhere with a lap pool. I want to:
swim 1 mile without a break.
bike 50 miles in one go.
Run 6 miles.
I figure if I can train to do each one then after a while i can add them on to eachother :)
Other than that, just try to have as much fun as is possible on a bike trainer (dreading it).
bruce_fort, 50 miles is a lot! Olympic distance is only about 25 miles so if you can do 50 miles you will do great.
I am planning to do at least one 10k per month from november through spring. I will start back with tri training once it warms up. There are some sprint distances early on in about april or may so we'll see if I feel like starting that early. I am hoping to train with Sac Tri Club next year (I have been with Team In Training for 2 years now) and do Pac Grove for the 3rd time. that's an olympic distance tri. There's a small small chance that I will go for a 1/2 ironman, but it's super small lol.
hey kt, yeah 50 miles really is a lot, my ultimate goal is to do a half ironman not next year but the year after that. Just moving up a step at a time.
50 feels like alot untill you get going. I do it about once a week when I am training outside. You just find a place for your mind to go and get going....
I am training for a 1/2 IM here in Alaska it is the Sourgough. I CANT WAIT!
wow i bet that is going to be intense! So word got around about my tri that i did last weekend around work (large part by my bragging), and a few people came out of the woodwork that wanted to do tri's next year.
The funniest part is that the 2 most serious people are a strong runner and a strong biker... just turns out i'm a strong swimmer. We decided our wildcard goal (other than personal goals) are going to do a half iron relay next year.
We founded our companies unofficial triathlon team. (Our company has a team for pretty much any competitive sport... softball, flag football, volleyball, etc). Now we just need to see if they can sponsor us and pay for travel/lodging in exchange for a logo on our shirts.
Good Luck to all of yall! I cant imagine running miles and miles and miles lol. Im a pole vaulter so the longest I have to run in a meet is around 74 ft! During training, my longest running work out is something like 9 x 150. Ive always looked up to the marathon runners and multies.
Right now my pr (personal record) is 11'8... My short term goal is 12'. My indoor goal is 12'3 and my outdoor goal is 12'9 (hopefully 13'!!!)
Right now in perseason, my main focus is to gain more muscle. We run Mon-Tues, jump Wed, run Thurs, Fri-Sat are off days, and jump Sun. We lift weights Mon, Tues, and Thurs. Its alot of work but it will all be worth it when I final reach my goals!!!
And I can't imagine letting a skinny little stick carry me that high in the air, lol. I always thought pole vaulting was cool.
right now I am focused on finding a way back into the pool -- or the bike, or running. I seem to have lost my motivation and my focus. If anyone sees them laying around, please send them home to me -- I really need them
Yeah pole vaulting is a lot of fun! Cant wait till season starts :)
Motivation.. Its crazy how easily you can misplace that. But know that its never gone for good. When I find myself getting frustrated with my performance or just losing my drive to keep working my hardest, I really like to go back and watch videos of great athletes. Pole vaulters, decats, swimmers doesnt matter its just the feeling I get when I see how happy they are with their accomplishment at the end of a big race. I love watching the olympics! When Michael Phelps won in a fraction of a sec he was SO HAPPY!!!! I think about how that must feel. It gives me goose bumps watching great athletes like that. I want that feeling of accomplishment and 100% dedication. Thats my motivation
I hope you find your drive soon!
Spring 2009 goal: Complete a sprint triathlon! I'm pregaming with a mini goal - running a 5k next Sunday. This will be my first competitive race in a few years, and should give me a benchmark for time. I like ktcort13's goal of one 10k per month. Maybe I will borrow your idea with 5ks.
I'd also like to get back into fencing and compete in at least one tournament in the 08-09 season. I miss NCAA competitions :(
Noncompetitive goals: get some of those crazy Yoga poses down
I would love to make it to level 5 states this year and win at least third place on beam and vault. Maybe floor if I'm lucky, but there's no way I'd ever win bars lol.
I'm gonna have to work really hard though, because it's late in the season and I can't afford to miss any more state qualifiers.
What I need to do is pretty much just improve my form and technique, for vault and floor in particular.
