Goals & Rewards...... What Are Yours?
So what are your goals? & how will/do you reward yourself in a non-food type way?
Do you reward yourself with a little something each week? Or are you waiting to reach your main goal to do something/go somewhere?
Or is your reward seeing you body change & finding new things you can do that you couldn't before? Small things like crossing your legs to relieving back pain.
Please do share!
Reason: 1/27/09: Stickied for a week; 2/9/09: Unstickied
I personally think just dropping the weight is a reward in itself. That self confidence I get from knowing that I'm accomplishing something I really want is the best feeling in the world. :)
I have thought about getting my belly button pierced once I reach my goal, just not sure about it yet. I definitely want to be able to wear my old clothes again and to wear a bikini my fiance' bought me before I put on the weight and was unable to wear it.

Every kilogram I lose I get a reward, anything from a ride in a go-kart to buying jeans to a walk up a hill that has special meaning (I am allowed to go swimming each kilogram lost as well). At goal, I get to go on an overseas trip (I'll book 5kg earlier), get new lenses for my glasses and start looking for a better job (one that I actually enjoy!). The biggie is I will propose to my partner, I want to see that she is attracted to me at that weight.
My weight loss system means that I can go to the cinema, or buy coffee from the supermarket, but only if I am the lowest weight so far since 1st Jan 09. It's working so far.
I follow the same practical-reward motivation scheme, but like your addition of the movie/coffee restrictions, James! It's simple, fair-minded, and clear--all great characteristics in a potentially emotional effort.
My current goal/reward schemes are as follows:
155 lb. (-5 from current, -20 total): get several pairs of pants altered to fit
145 lb. (-30 total): try indoor rock-climbing!
120-130 lb.* (-45 to 55 total, maintained for 6 months): Goal Weight! Spend a day at Title 9 Sports and give myself a rockin' active lifestyle wardrobe/makeover
*I've never seen myself or anyone in my family at a smaller weight than 150, so I'm going to analyze my goal range once I'm closer to it and determine from there what my final goal weight will be
I just got over a plateau and have now successfully lost 30 pounds. I still have 10-15 more to go, but I decided what the heck and scheduled an appointment to do some pinup pictures (tasteful of course) as a Valentines Day gift for my boyfriend, but also for myself. I've always been proud of my curves and luckily am hourglass shaped so I carry extra weight well. It comes with a makeover and a little airbrushing, so I'm pretty excited :)
Hello all, made it to my 21st birthday and decided it was time to get focused on my weight. I hear that at it's all downhill from here, especially when you can order a margarita instead of a diet soda.
Last January thru June, I lost a total of 40 pounds, held it off until October, then gained about 14 lb from October to now. My history is as follows:
January 08:198 lb
March 08: 178 lb
June 08: 156 lb
October 08: 159 lb
January 09: 170 lb
So what I hope to accomplish for this year is a comfortable decline in my weight. I have been able to do it before, I just need to do it again. In the first half of 2008 I worked out 5 days a week, ate 1300 - 1500 Calories, and enjoyed seeing the pounds peel right off. This year it's going to be a bit more difficult. I have a boyfriend, and he's introduced me to a lot of AMAZING foods that I would not have thought to eat on my diet but I'd be fine squeezing in.
My goals are as follows:
Current: 170.4 lb
Reward for 10 lb: $10 worth of Goodwill clothes
Reward for 20 lb: $20 worth of Charlotte Russe - & use my gift card from there.
Reward for 25 lb: $25 of free spending or an awesome CD/DVD.
Reward for 30 lb: $30 worth of clothes.
Every milestone I am rewarding myself!
Start weight: 163 lbs
147 lbs
Get a lymphtic massage, hair/nails & facial.
136 lbs
I can now buy NEW clothes, (I haven't bought clothes in nearly a year because I don't think anything looks good on me I see it as a waste of money atm.)
125 lbs
Go for a day trip to a theme park or water park.
116 lbs
Get a wrist tatoo, 2nd ear piercings & a monroe piercing. (I've wanted to get these for ages..)
105 lbs
Not sure, although getting to my goal weight will be a big enough reward in itself.
I am going to start with a weekly milestone of staying within my calorie limit for one week, then I will reward myself with a new cd by ella fitzgerald which I have been wanting.
If I can go two weeks, then I will take myself to the movies and bring my own healthy popcorn.
My monthly goal is to be able to go for 30 days without binge-style eating and listening to my body. Staying connected to myself really helps, but on nights like tonight when I am tired and there is so much going on I start thinking that is the only way to unwind and forget it all.
What is a lymphatic massage? Maybe the massage can be my three week goal and the month will have changed old eating patterns (it takes about 30 days to change a habit) which in itself is the greatest reward!
i have so struggled with goal/reward system!!! for years Ive yo-yoed and typically the only thing that keeps me going is knowing I am going to have alot of eyes on me, like being in weddings (including my own).
But for this round of weight loss I made a deal with my husband that he will pay me per pound. Here is how its gonna work:
I am currently 185 size 14/16, L/XL (5'7)
He will pay me $8 a pound when I reach a comfortable size 10.
If I keep going I get $10 a pound when I reach a comforable size 8.
This is really motivating to me because we are on a pretty strict budget and I dont get alot of spending money so the idea of having some "prize money" I can spend any way I want motivates me more than anything!
Ill let you know how it goes :)
Im also VERY excited about the spring/summer clothes I will be buying what that money! WHOOT!
My goal is to be 155 lbs. I started a few weeks ago at 172 lbs and I am now at 167 lbs. Only 12 lbs to go! I really admire all the people on this site who are trying to get to the same goal weight as me but who have started at a higher weight than I did...you people are amazing!!!
Anyway, as for my way of rewarding myself, I haven't done anything specific yet...I do have one "cheat" day each week though where I eat whatever I want and I have as much of it as I want, but I'm saving the real reward for when I reach 155 lbs. I think the reward will be buying an outfit I will wear on a special date with my boyfriend (itineray to be decided)...something more extravagant and exciting than the usual dinner-and-a-movie date that we usually do.
I reward myself every five pounds with a cd or a book that I been wanting to read.
But I am looking forward to hitting 125 in April, because I want to get an easter outfit.
15 lbs to go.
I am currently 218lb and my goal rewards are:
- 199lbs - buying snow pants and sleds to go sledding. (I've wanted to do this for a long time, but I can't find snow pants that fit me properly. I am hoping that at 199 I will fit nicely in some. :)
- 179lbs - buying a really good pair of running sneakers. The ones where you get professionally fitted.
- 159lbs - taking a small vacation with my boyfriend... Montreal or NYC perhaps.
- 139lbs - taking kayaking lessons and going on a nice hiking trail.
- 119lbs - going to Hawaii again. My boyfriend and I already have the points for the flights and the money, but I made is a strict rule that the next time I go there I want to be fit. No more spending money to go to Hawaii as a fat blob on the beach or worrying about those weight restrictions everywhere.
I have 4 goal post- every 12 weeks. I'm putting a certain amount in an envelope each week at the end of the 12 weeks if I haven't reached my goal the cash goes to charity if not a get to buy or do something fun with the cash.
My first reward is $60- Spa Pedicure- must lose at least 15lbs
Second reward is $120- ???? must lose at least 15lbs
Third Reward is $180 - Tiffany's Sterling Silver Necklace I love-must lose at least 15lbs
The Biggie 12/31/09- $300 - ???- Must be 150lbs by this day.
It's so fun to read what everyone is planning to celebrate! I already have a lot of really nice clothes in the size I want to be again so not too concerned about that. Instead, my reward will be to have once a month spa treatments like scrubs, massages, mani/pedi, etc. There is a very nice spa close by where I live and I just don't want to darken their doorway feeling self conscious. I wanna go in that locker room, whip off my clothes, and hope someone is peeking and thinking that I look pretty good.
I am a 54 year male, at 353 lbs. I just decided today I can't live like this, and must attempt a major reduction. My goal is to drop 160 lbs. I know it'll be a long struggle with a lot of ups and downs, but it's sure nice to see everyone so supportive of each other.
I think the idea of small rewards celebrating steps along the way is a great idea....now......all I have to do is think of a few....
My reward will be showing off my beach body later this year when my wife and I celebrate our 10 yr anniversary on an island somewhere. Any suggestions of a good place for a mid-forty yr old couple? 37# to go in 7 months...
I am 43 & ever since i hit the magical age of 40 I have had a hard time battling my weight. I workout regularly and eat pretty healthy but at night I have a hard time staying out of the kitchen! I probably don't eat enough during the day when I am working which leads to my inability to control my appetite at night. But... the goal is to lose 20 pounds slow & steady! I have so many clothes that I cannot wear & I feel bloated often. I really hope to get motivated & be supportive to others who are seeking the same goals as I am. It is so hard & frustrating to lose weight. My mind & my fork are out to get me!!! Tomorrow I am officially going to weigh myself. I avoid the scale until I feel I am having a skinny day but I need to know my starting weight & accept it as it is so I can move on from there. Thanks for reading & please do share...
I decided to reward my self with small things every 10 lbs or so with something small. I hit my first 10 lbs and bought myself some new earrings, nothings expensive but something that looked good on me and made me feel good about myself. Money is tight for me but I only spent $20 and I put a few bucks away every week.
My goal posts are as follows:
2/15/08: goal is to be in a roomy size 4/comfortable size 6 (meaning the pants are cut a little more generously than some, but NOT vanity sizing. I'm talking designer size 4, whether I actually buy designer or not). I have a pair of pants I'm using as a yardstick. I'm getting close, but the thighs are pretty tight. If I get there by the date above, I'm buying myself something cute to wear that IS NOT work attire. (I never spend money on weekend clothes, so this is a real reward for me.) As if responding to my prayers, a cool botique just opened up near my house. This will result approximately a 5 lb loss. (I'm 5'4")
3/15/09: comfortable size 4. If I get in a comfortable size 4 I am buying myself a hot pair of Joe's Jeans. They're my favorites but they are a splurge.
4/15/09: smaller size 4/roomy size 2: kickass Frye boots. Again, non work wear and something I would never drop coin on because they aren't practical in that sense. I have a picture of them on my corkboard at work and you can see a pic of them in my gallery.
Every week I get a cheat day. I am trying to get disciplined enough for it to become more of a cheat meal, but lately it's been a free-for-all. :)
My far-out, possibly unattainable goal is to get back into a gorgeous pair of wool designer pants I bought in 2001. Right now I can't even button them safely. This is something I'll reevaluate after I get to my 4/15 goal post. If I feel like I'd have to be too teensy or muscle-less, I'll give up the idea.
So I started my recent diet on April 22/09 at 353.3 lbs.
Today, May 2/09 I am 330.7 lbs for a loss of 22.6 lbs.
Feeling quite comfortable so far, but I know that staying on the program is my #1 goal.
I am planning exercise and life changes that will encourage more activity as the weight continues to come off. Also rethinking what 'normal' eating should be, and portion sizing.
My goal is to lose 150 lbs, so I am 15% of the way.
Good luck to all out there on a similar journey.
New clothes, of course! :)
