Everyone is Welcome
I need to know what some excellent sources of protein are. I seem to be in a rut. I like what I am eating but thought a change would be good. I know that chicken, nuts, dairy, and soy are good, but what else that I can eat?
I was on an egg kick until I discovered that I have the same allergy symptoms that my mother gets. After eating at least two eggs a day for about three days I discovered that my forehead looked like a snakes skin that was shedding. I was a total flake!!! So after using an exfoliating scrub and putting on extra lotion I am back to normal now, but I won't do that again with the eggs. I am also not real crazy about fish unless it is deep fried and I don't think that would be a good idea!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I have to add some variety, because I know someday I will be sick of my Boca burgers.
Protein powder/whey from the health food store, can put in smoothies, sprinkle in soups, even mash with potato.
Add a 1/2 cup of fat-free cottage cheese to a baked potato.
Add silken tofu to egg beaters for a yummy omelet base.
Try some tilapia (fish) -- you can get it frozen, often on sale two-for-one. Spray a hot skillet with Pam, and cook it up in about 5 minutes. Even without breading and oil it gets crispy. Add some salsa and a T of fat free sour cream for a great protein treat.
Bake a turkey breast. (the directions how to are on the package.) All the roasted goodness without the commitment of the whole bird. Slice for sandwiches and snacks; excellent protein source.
Buy cans of tuna and salmon, and make healthy "burgers" -- add some oatmeal, spices and a bit of salsa to make it stick together. The burgers you don't cook, put in the freezer for easy meals later.
Buy pre-made salmon burgers. May have to find at a specialty store like Trader Joe's, but I have seen them occasionally at the local grocery. Shop for cheap; stock up when they're on sale.
Eat beans -- navy, black, kidney, and garbanzo. Add to salads, excellent in soups, also can make dips with the food processor, some olive oil, and seasonings. Good protein, great fiber. Even baked beans have protein (careful of the sweet sauces though...)
Eat higher protein grains -- quinoa, bulgur, barley, and to a lesser extent brown and wild rice.
(isn't it funny how you know this stuff, and then think while you're writing, "dang, I should take my own advice," LOL).
Time for a high-protein breakfast.

This reports going to be kind of weird. Some foods I don't have added into my account.
My calories where at 631 earlier in the day with a grade A. Then I a baked skinless chicken breast. 3 low fat oatmeal muffins, that actuallly come out to about 2 1/2, since the bottom of them stuck to the paper muffin cups. Those are about 100 calories each. Than I was a very bad girl and had like 6 sugar cookies. Horrid I know, but they looked so yummy on my counter. So anyways I don't know how many calories that is, but I was shooting for 1600-1700 yesterday and I doubt that would have put me over that.
My burn meter was at around 2300. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill and about 15-20 minutes of some pilates moves that I found in Shape magazine.
For a good note today, I got on the scale this morning and it said 200.5!!!!!!!! Bounce, bounce, jump, hop!!!!! I even got off and then back on and it was the same!!! Yay, that's my lowest yet, since I started my diet/lifestyle change.
Okay, since I said before that I will start doing more strength training, I'm going to make myself do some weights and stuff today, since today isn't a cardio day. I WILL DO THIS!
Does anyone know of a good way to cook mushrooms???? I bought 2 little containers of them at the store and I don't know how to cook them. I was thinking of chopping them up and sauteing them, but with what??? I've got broccoli, carrots and celery and that's about it for the veggies.
I'm trying to get more veggies into my diet, but it's hard because there's not a whole lot that I like.
Last week too many treats, but did get to work out twice at the gym (weight training and treadmill). I've only lost 2 lbs since we started this thread, but made a vegtable soup that I am eating all this week to ward off all the holiday goodies. It makes be feel good to have a nice hot heathly soup. It's been pretty cold here in Maryland. Hopefully It will help me stay on track. You all sound like you are all doing very well and staying on track. You keep me motovated and by reading all your posts I am more conscious of what I am putting in my mouth. Thank you all for your posts.
Have a great day! - Nicole

Made an A, didn't expect to... Had one of those terrible phone calls... After 3 hours of encouragement, helped a daughter call 911 and go to the emergency room, where we spent the night... She decided to not press charges, and has a rough road ahead, trying to keep a job she is dependant on... I know she won't be able to deal with it, but going helped her get in touch with the trained people she will need for counseling and support, especially as she is and was under a powerful load of fear... There is much she needs to deal with, one thing being a hope of getting married on Dec. 26... and she feels her fiance would attack the person who hurt her, and go to jail--so she doesn't want to tell him... * sigh * I know that won't work-- but she can't think clearly yet...
* sigh *
I NEED some MOLLY TIME!!!
I don't want to be a downer... Sorry! I just believe the trials of life are an important influence on the ebbs and flows of our health efforts, and sharing can help us understand them and deal with them better, sooner. Maybe someone else has experienced something like this? I didn't finish my 1200 yesterday, and felt I owed an explanation here-- Though, once I adjusted it, I was ok, and the Nutritionist recommended, no more than twice a month!, that I could try a 1000 calorie day to 'bump' my metabolism.
That wasn't the way I planned on doing it!
I've been Sooo Happy! I believe we NEED to enjoy all we have TODAY...'cause tomorrow can change things. I've felt that way especially ever since the World Trade Center went down...
I'm fine, just in shock and waiting to hear how her day will go...
Everybody seems to be doing so good! I'm glad to have a good healthy routine to hang on to, now. No gym-as-planned yesterday- but maybe the exercise, etc. will help today, when I need it more. CC will be a help to me through this stress, keeping me busy and feeling better with the better health I've gained now. That 34 lb. 'Weight Box' is surprisingly heavy- I'm slow, but I feel so good now, compared to 8 months ago!
This IS a 'Life Style' for me! Life will happen-- I just need to keep it from causing me to make the wrong choices, which only make everything worse! I guess I've had a lot of good practice this year, and will be better able to cope with whatever 'Life" brings me next year! I DON"T want to know the future, either!!!
* shudder! *
I'm so glad you're doing better, Dancer! Enjoy your bike!!! Good Job!!! (I love tea, too, after my coffee, lol!)
Molly, you've made me try Acorn squash-LOVED it!!! AND bagged collard greens- in the 20 min. way the bag recommended, with a little olive oil instead of bacon or a lot of olive oil. Thank your wonderful, adventureous, generous, fun-loving, Big Heart!!! ![]()
I can't wait to try some more now, if I can get to the store, once I wake up enough. ![]()

I've just got to go find Molly! I'll see if she's 'ranting'... I've been missing some pages, there, lately! She can cheer up anybody!!! ![]()

It really seems to make me 'Feel?' busier... and I never chew gum, usually!!! ![]()
Hello my fellow Goldilocks ... a few quick things.
I deleted the spam that was posted in this thread. Please hit the REPORT button when you see that, so one of the Moderators can come and investigate and make the Spam go "poof!"
Second thing, lowering your calories slows your metabolism.... it doesn't "bump" it up. Your body thinks something is wrong and shifts into a lower gear. The trick to weight loss is eating the correct number of calories (not too few, and not too many) .... so my advice is to never drop below 1200 per day (per the CC guidelines.)
You may now return to your regularly scheduled chatting. It's raining cats and dogs here and I need to encourage my two wussy doglets to go piddle in a puddle!

I posted very early this AM what my menu was for the day. I have changed that so I could have a little bit of variety plus I wanted to lower my sodium. The only problem was that I waited until supper time to change everything. This is my new and improved diet at least for tonight..lol. I spent about 20 minutes playing around trying to find the perfect combo, this is the closest I could get.

Should anyone see this mornings post, I didn't exactly eat things at the time I had put them this morning. I still haven't eaten my oatmeal yet as a matter of fact.
Thanks to my 450 calories of Chocolate soy protein shakes I am extremely hyper!!![]()

My Dh got to work 14 hrs instead of the 12 we thought he was going to work. So when he got home I demanded he eat real good to compensate for all the calories he burned today welding for that many hours. He ended up making this broccoli flavored shake
with fruit, whey protein, cauliflower, broccoli and carrots. It wasn't so bad but in my opinion not so good either but him and the kids liked it. Funny that before CC I wouldn't have given it a thought about whether he had , had enough to eat or not.
Now I need to burn off some hyperness. I might do some more exercise before I go to bed, but might not because I am not hungry enough to compensate for those calories so I don't get less than 1,200. I exercised for half an hour this morning I might just let that be enough. Maybe I could chew some gum or fidget for a while to get the hyperness out!!!???
*goes off fidgeting through purse in desperate search of some gum, dog seems to be hyper too*
When I'm hyper, I vacuum.... or dust. I figure I might as well put all that excess energy to good use!

My new fave VEG OF THE WEEK (hey, share yours!):
RUTABAGA (say it with me now friends,...now 4 times fast!)
In the turnip family, nice flavor in between a potato and a squash. Here, check it out on my fave veggie site:
http://www.vegparadise.com/highestperch4.html
tonight had it in my soup, tomorrow I think I'll roast and mash some, and have it with a chicken breast and some broccoli rabe w/ toasted almonds. It'll be post-workout, so I'll have to add some more carbs as well, maybe some rye bread.
Had a wonderful flow/power yoga class tonight. Helped me get a knot out from between my shoulder blades from all the work driving around I've been doing this week. We did some pranayama breathing to close class, breathing mindfully through one nostril then the other. It literally slows your heartbeat down and helps you maintain a meditative state. Wonderful way to let the cares of the day go.
Got my 100 oz. of water in today; drinking bottles 20 oz at a time makes possible throughout the day.
Calories = 1691 Carbs 51 percent, Protein, 26 percent, Fat 22 percent. Yippee, got it right for today. 41 grams of fiber. Excellent porridge to start the day. Think I'll do it again tomorrow.
Welcome all the newbies on the thread today, we hope you'll become regulars. (for sure if you eat like us you'll be regular...LOL, I couldn't resist that one...)

Yay! I burned 250 calories on the treadmill today (and ate them all back ... chomp chomp chomp!) That's two days in a row I burned more than 200 on the treadmill, woo hoo! (And I am doing it so I can eat more calories now that I seem to have the cold-weather, PMS-style munchies!)
Of course, now my body is complaining and my knee is really sore (and I'm having intermittent chest pains), so I'd better not step on the treadmill tomorrow or I'll get in trouble. Oh well, maybe the rain will have stopped and I can rake leaves and sweep sidewalks tomorrow! I just want to be doing SOMETHING, activity wise.
This trying-to-lose-weight-with-serious-health-pro blems can sure get old some days, ya know? Thank goodness that 80 percent of weight loss is WHAT WE EAT, and only 20 percent is HOW MUCH WE MOVE!

How can I reduce body fat without running?
I can see on the back end that your current Body Mass Index (BMI) is 19.1, which is within the healthy weight range albeit on the low end... Read more
