Going4Gold GANG
Here at the Going4Gold Gang it's all about sharing what your doing as an individual then sharing with the rest of the gang.
Everyone is Welcome
Ok ladies...I woke up late today and then waited until I went to the bathroom like 5 times until I weighed in..that's why I'm so late at posting....So here are the results
Starting weight September 1st 2008: 217
Current weight October 1st, 2008: 223.4
Total gained/lost: 6.4 pounds gained
Alright..So there is no way possible I gained 6.4 pounds. I always had a deficit, even if it was only 200 calories somedays, I always had a deficit. So this is either #1 water weight or #2 I have been having my periods 2 times this month and I'm just ending it, that took away from a total of 14 days that I was on my cycle this month...
I'm very happy and proud of what I have accomplished in 30 days. I have taken everything that I have learned about health and accomplished it. I had approximately 4 days where I ate fast food/ or over-ate out of the month, which compared to having it 3 to 4 times weekly before I think that's great.
Additionally, I now swim 5 days a week for 1 hour in the pool which I love to do! I also know that my heart and lungs appreciate all that I have done. So I think about my internal health and not only my external!
This month was about me focusing on health instead of the scale and I 100% accomplished that. I ate between 2200 and 2600 calories a day. I exercised. I feel good about what I did
Now I'm thinking I might weight myself next Wednesday to see if there was a drop on the scale since I shouldn't be on my cycle any longer. After that no matter if there is a gain or a loss I'm only going to step on the scale once a month from here on out. I'm switching my focus from the scale to long-term health and I know if I keep doing what I have been doing that the weight will eventually come off.....
My goals for the month of October:
1. Eat more fruits and vegetables in september I ate appx. 2 servings of fruit and 2 servings of vegetables and for the month of october I want to bump that up to 5 servings of vegetables and 3 servings of fruit
2. Continue to exercise for an hour a day and just keep doing what I already did!
3. Dropping calories to 1800 to 2000
Sorry this is a little long but I needed to process and tell my tale! Thanks for the support ladies!!!
Go Gang
How did everyone's first day go?
Heya' Di! Thanks for the links on the Ann Taylor Loft stuff. I LOVE that store!!! And now that I can fit into their clothes, they've been seeing a big chunk of my paycheck!
Heck, it's just nice to be wearing anything that's not a muu muu!
Well.... need to stop by the store to get some fresh fruit and veggies. With the garden fading away, it's back to the grocers for my fresh stuff. Bummer.....
Boots.... Sounds like your weight is playing games with you. Been there!
Have you increased your sodium intake in some foods you wouldn't expect to find salt? I'm guessing we're talking a little water gain and a little muscle gain. That would easily account for 5-7 pounds.
I did a 10 pound gain in two days but it was gone by the end of the week. When I looked at my food diary, I found that I was adding extra salt to my fresh tomatoe (which I was eating several of every day!). Plus I'd have some popcorn in the evening. I also noticed my water intake was down.
It doesn't take much!
so true KK
Announcement:
DancesWithForks is gone on a mission... Wish me luck!!
I'll stop in when I can. I don't know how long I'll be gone for?
I can't pick any individual to be the cheerleader as you all are a great group.
I wish only the absolute best for each of you.
Carry on friends!
Until we meet again
DWF
Forksyour always leaving us..just when I need you!! Nah, it's 'ok' girl, you do what you have to do...
KK:thanks for the info, it's not my sodium though..I cook most all my food so no problem there and I don't have a problem with the salt shaker..I honestly think it had something to do with the fact that I had my menstrual cycle 14 days straight this month (sorry if that's tmi for some) but it's the truth...I'm just now finishing up...I really think that plays a big role in it...Thanks for your support!!
Fooooooooorrrrrkkks!!!! WHYyyyyyyy. Just as long as you come back. I hope all goes well with you. I will poor a little wine out for our sister who isn't here. (an old urban tradition for people who have passed on or moved out of the hood)
Boots: I feel you're pain. I work out like a crack head chasin a vial and the weight is taking it's sweet time. Not to mention I dropped my food intake to 1600 to 1800 calories and if I dring anymore water, I will leak when I laugh. You should see me making a mad days into the house when I come in form work eight glasses a day killlllllls me. Maybe you're experiencing the GREAT PLATEAU. Swimming an hour a day should knock all weight off. I don't have a clue, but don't stop what you're doing.
KK: Hey, miss lady. I hope you know you are my new inspiration. If you can lose all the weight you loss naturally, and look as great as you do I know I can lose this 50 pounds. I hope you are in less pain and feeling great!!!
Well... there goes Forks again! She does seem to find some interesting things to keep her busy at times... LOL!!
Wonder when 2BB will return to us... anyone know?? Ok... so lets all "gang" together and keep going here!
Boots... I suspect you really are right about your cycle messing with your weight loss. I know I've had some odd female issues over the last year and it really halted my loss.
Meisha... Don't worry... Forks will return. And until then, we'll all just hang together and make this thing happen!
KK... So good to see you back! I was missing you and thought perhaps you'd fallen into the election vortex.
Well friends, like I said October 1 was anti-climatic for me as far as the scale. My official weigh in was 194.6. Honestly, it's below 200 and stays there, which thrills me no end!! I also just ordered a pair of size 14 jeans. Will they fit? I'm not entirely sure. My 16 relaxed fit are getting pretty big, so I guess we'll see. Its been so long, and sizes have changed so much since I gained weight, I really have no clue what size I wear.
I'm considering asking my doctor for a referral for some surgery and I'm a little nervous about it. I am hoping for a breast reduction. Even with all the weight loss, I've still carrying around at least a D cup... maybe more... and now they are NOT sitting where they should. Causing back pain, and grooves in my shoulders. Sort of hemming and hawing about it though.
It's so quiet! where is everyone? I'm not supposed to be the first one posting a message of the day... No 2bb, 2 forks, 4squares?? no one???
So I have woke up with a new sense of purpose today. I've decided to drop my calories to 1600 to 1800 .....that's a big drop but I've decided it's what I want to try at least for another 30 days and see what results I get. I don't think the 30 days I already did from sept to october was a waste at all...I feel thinner, healthier and better all around......Thanks for the support! Hope everyone has a great day. I will check in later!!
WOW!! Had to go to page 2 to find the Gang this morning!! Forks sure does keep the page busy. Miss her already, but I'm sure she'll be back.
Boots... I commend you for your positive attitude. Only thing I'd caution is, try not to go below your BMR. I know I didn't see the movement on the scale I wanted either, but I know things are improving, even without that.
Ok Gang!! Everybody gather around to be supportive of each other!! Like Forks said... this will be a rock star month!!
dang, so slow today...Ok welp I'm excited to say that I might be getting a job....A job called my friend for a reference and they told her they just had to check my references and the job is mine
I don't think it's really protocol to tell references but I'm happy to know!
On another note...since I know I'm getting hired, hubby & I decided to buy an elliptical. The pool is fixing to get closed because it is getting colder and I hate gyms..And you people all raved about your ellipticals and my hubby said he wanted an elliptical over a treadmill so bam, I got one...It will be here in 10 to 14 days, i'm so excited, wish it was here now! Hope everyone is doing good and please check in more, it's lonely!!
Vstar: my bmr is 2100 and I was eating 2400 to 2600....y don't you eat under your BMR....tell me the facts please :)
Boots- Contrats!!!!! I'm happy to hear you got a lead on a job. That's wonderful. I know who stressful it is to be out of work. I've been doing the elliptical for a week now. And here's some horrible news
GANG:
Do you see the freakin tears
After counting calories and eating 1600 calories of berries and freaking branches I am up 1.1 pound this week. What in the Helman's mayonaise is that about. After I worked out Saturday, Sunday, Tues and Wednesday im up 1.1 pound. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy. The red carpet did roll out on Tuesday and is due to be finished on Saturday. When you ladies are in the "red" do you tend to gain.
m: i always gain on the red...sad story but it happens and I know it happens for a lot of other people...Don't worry that and a few more pounds will be gone in the next couple of weeks, Keep up the good work!
Meisha... I still say you're not eating enough, but I could be wrong. Of course, the monthly visit from Aunt Flo can cause problems too. I'd be willing to bet, though, that you work so hard at the gym that you are replacing fat with muscle, thus not showing a loss. Don't get frustrated. This is most definitely a struggle for all of us. My hubby keeps reminding me that our weight can swing as much as 5 pounds in a DAY... we just don't notice because we don't weigh ourselves constantly. Thus, 1 pound ain't NOTHING in the scheme of things. This too shall pass.... HAHAHA!
Boots... Here is the BMR theory. Of course, this, as anything IS just theory. But I have found that it works pretty well for me, and I know a lot of others swear by it.
Your BMR is a value which shows what your body would burn if you were in a coma. This is the bare minimum that your body needs to survive. All other numbers, such as sedentary burn are figured from that number. It would then follow that any movement below that number, and your body does not think it is getting enough calories to survive. It does what it needs to do, and slows your metabolism to compensate.
So, the key to never going below BMR is in keeping your body thinking everything is ok, and it can burn efficiently.
Granted, the difference between BMR and sedentary burn for most people is only 300 - 400 calories. That's where exercise comes in. You can easily raise your daily burn to 500- 700 daily in order to lose weight.
Hope that makes sense. Honestly, I know that I physically feel better if I don't go below that number and am much less likely to want to nibble.
Argh, went to the gym and weighed in on my "official" scale, with shoes on.
209 :(
That's my start weight for our current challenge.
Di_p... Sounds like you need to find a new "official" scale.... HAHAHAHA! Or at least threaten the current one. Stick with it, we'll all make it happen!
Ladies... I have created Going4Gold Hall in the Groups section. I'd like it to be a continuation of what we have here and maybe will be a little easier to find when things are slow and no one posts for a while. Please come join me!!
