Going4Gold GANG
Here at the Going4Gold Gang it's all about sharing what your doing as an individual then sharing with the rest of the gang.
Everyone is Welcome
i need more info on this bmr theory vstar. can you please use me as an example?? So if my sedentary bmr is 2100 that means I need to eat 2100 calories each day and if I exercise and burn 500 calories I still only eat 2100 calories right or do I eat more???
DIP: don't let that scale get to you, your doing amazing!
Boots... Ok... here we go.
Your BMR - 2100 (this is an excellent link to a BMR calculator, to make sure you have the right number. http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ )
Your sedentary burn - 2520 (this is according the the Harrison-Benedict calculations that CC uses, this is your BMR x 1.2 for sedentary. See this page for others http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ harris-benedict-equation/ )
Thus, if you eat 2100 calories and don't even exercise, you have an immediate 420 calorie deficit. If you exercise for an additional 400 calories, that's an 820 calorie deficit.
Now, another thought process is, you should try to keep your deficit between 500-700 calories per day. They say having a deficit over that for long periods of time isn't the best idea. SOOO, if you exercise really hard, you might consider eating more on that day.
I'll use me as an example.
BMR - 1670
Normal daily burn including 65 minutes on elliptical and strenth training - 2700
So, I normally eat between 2000 and 2200 calories per day. At the moment, I am not losing tons of weight, but I attribute that to muscle gain, which is noticable. I know the fat is burning because the measurements show it. I am also closer to goal, probably within 15 pounds.
Hope this makes sense. Come join the group!!
Vstar: from all your numbers this is what I got, let me know (thanks!!)
My BMR 1803 calories: Eat this many calories on days I exercise
2163.6 sedentary burn or calories I need to eat to maintain my current weight
Burn between 140 & 337 calories every day (5 to 6 days a week of exercise)
minimum if I burn more I need to eat more… , eating 1800 calories
On days I don’t exercise eat between 1463 and 1663 calories
---Alright people, I'm just trying to figure all my numbers out..It's starting to make more sense..I was eating 2400 to 2600 calories but burning appx 400 to 500 calories during September which means my weight would have maintained: so it's starting to make a lot of sense....
Boots... So your BMR is 1803? Then why would you be eating 1400 to 1600 calories? That defeats what I explained above, which is to NOT go below that number. You need to stay above 1800.
Here's what I get.
BMR - 1803
Sedentary burn - 1803 x 1.2 - 2163.6
Thus, on a day when you don't exercise at all, and eat 1800 you automatically have a deficit of 360. Any exercise you do will just add to that. DO NOT eat less than 1800, even on days when you don't exercise. Your BMR should be baseline, do not go below this number.
P.S. I hope this doesn't sound harsh, just wanting to make sure it makes sense.
Wanted to let all of you know, once again, about the Going4Gold Hall I've created in Groups. Click on the View my Groups above my picture here to get to it. Please join us and keep this family together!
Vstar you don't sound harsh at all. I really didn't understand it and this is all new to me eventhough I have been with CC for over a year, I have never heard this theory....I need to think about this some more..and this is exactly what you did to lose your 60 pounds ( I think that's what you said?))))??
Boots... PHEW! Sometimes I come across a bit harsh and don't mean to. I will admit, I did eat less than BMR when I started out. I stopped doing that, however, when I really started reading the thought processes.
While lower calorie intake will force us to lose weight, eventually our bodies catch on and react. That's why I tend to subscribe to to this theory. The sad thing is... ALL of this, low calorie... high calorie... eat this, not that... is just so much theory. This one just works for my scientific mind.
Are we still chatting on this thread? Or the going for gold hall group??? I'm confused, I like this place a lot better, lol...it has so much history...??? Just curious as I don't want to be left out..I know I was invited to the G4G group but I don't want to go...let me know
WOW! Didn't realize the Hall would be taken badly. That was not the intention. I opened the group because this thread very often disappears when no one gets on it for a day or so. It was more of a "just in case". I guess I thought that, eventually things might migrate over there should the thread get too buried. The group is easy to access, and has the ability to have multiple threads.
I invited several people, and if everyone is against it, well, I'll just close it. My concern is, the originator of the thread could decide she doesn't want to do it anymore and it would just get erased. Just try to keep the group together.
Vstar: I rather stay here...Forks disappears several times but always reappears so I think the originator shall be back....Maybe if we always had a person bump it up daily that it would help.....
Good Morning G4 Gold Group!
Boots & Vstar: It's my turn. We usually have someone keep this thread going. It's only been over the last week that it has been quiet. I have not chimmed in much because my company is in so much turmoil I no longer know who I really work for. So I guess you can figure I work for one of those banks that are getting sold.
Like everyone else life has really become a real struggle lately and staying on a healthy track is even harder right now. I have been trying to keep up with my workouts or just working around the house if I cannot get to the gym. As long as I move and do some kind of physical activity each day I guess that's better than nothing at all.
Vstar: I joined your new group, but I do like this one and hope it stays alive. Also thank you for the bmr explanation. This always confuses me as well. I am been trying to stick to 1600 calories a day. For the most part I have done it except for those TOM times.
New Week and I plan to be more patient with myself, my family, and try to have a brighter outlook. As you can see last week brought me down, but not for long since I am by nature a very optimistic person.
Have a Good Week and I give each of you a High Five in achieving your goals.
HEY LADIES:
Okay, so out of frustration I fell off the deep end!!!! It was fun doing it I will say that much. I drank friday and Saturday night like an addict I mean I drank like amy whine house!!! I ate cookies, and YESTERDAY I went to a carribean resturaunt and chowed like a cow, can any one say moooo. Shut the front door, if I am going to gain, I'm gaining for a reason. I had appertizers, entree and a fruity drink with an extra shot of 151. I SHOWED my weight gain, right? No guilt, I'm just going to climb back on. I'm sure I ate my calorie allowance for the week at that Jamaican Resturant last night. Now I'm sure I gained twice what I gained on Friday, but atleast it felt good doing it. I didn't even go to the gym
but I am back to my senses again. I usually don't binge like that but I felt like I needed to.
VP- Thanks for the advice, I will up my calories a bit.
Boots- I'm glad I'm not the only one who gains when I'm walking on the red carpet. I feel like I've been gone for daaays.

Ditto for me! It's just been positively crazy with the events of the past few weeks (in the world of politics). Plus I've been dealing with the latest round of health issues. I had surgery over a week ago (elective 'chick' stuff), and then they found the new tumors, which I had to have biopsied (still waiting on the results).
But at the end fo the day, when things calm down and I have a few minutes to myself, it's nice to know that the gang is still here!
I may not have as much time to respond these days, but I do check to see how everyone is doing. Why? Because you are an AMAZING group of ladies!!!
Glad everyone checked in! I just wanted to let you know, I read all the post and I will respond later, Hope everyone has a great day!!!![]()
KK - I hope you are feeling better and I am praying for your results to come out negative. This is definitely a historical time in our country's history. We all need to band together somehow and support each other. Like we do here on CC. Thank God we have this site and each other to discuss our trials and tribulations. I know it helps me feel that I am not alone in this crazy time.
Rock On Group!!!!!!!!!![]()
kk: praying that the results are negative as well.
itsmiesha: Just wanted to introduce myself, I've been with GFG gang for several mos and at times my postings are hit and miss. This could go for my calorie counting too, I have been consistent with my exercise but not the intensity, this past May - July I lost 25 pounds and the scale has been stubbornly unyielding since. I'm trying to change up my exercise without straining new body parts and attempting to eat clean which is very very difficult for this one. You will find this is a wonderfully supportive group, I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
Boots: You will love your elliptical!
Everyone, Have a beautiful day!
You know, I was going to say something about the group, but I can't figure out how to word it. It will stay open, I hope people will join, but completely understand if no one does. Call me a technology geek, I saw a benefit, but certainly wasn't trying to step on toes.
Meisha... Don't worry about slipping now and then. I'm a lot like you, if I'm gonna fall off the wall I hit like a ton of bricks, then get right back on. Just remember, this is a long term change of lifestyle, so a couple days ain't nothin'!
KK... Keeping you in my thoughts, hope everything comes back clean.
I'm glad everyone is checking in today, makes me happy! Dip do you have an elliptical? Tell me how often you work out on it and what you do?
Green Eyes: were here if you need to vent about your job or anything else![]()
KK: glad you checked in, I like here from you weekly
Meisha: Looks like we both need to support each other to get back on track!
Vstar: Hope you feel 'ok' about us staying here, you didn't step on anyones toes, we have just been here in this thread for so long that it feels wrong to leave, thank you though!
Today, I'm pretty much on track...>I need to go eat right now..I'll pop in later!
Boots... Honestly, I didn't expect the response I got. That sort of took me by surprise. I've been here just as long as most of you, and maybe longer than some and was just seeking to keep us all together, someplace we didn't have to "hunt" for if no one posted for a few hours. The group will be there if we all decide to migrate at some point. The important thing is the support we all get in our little "family".
Back on the wagon here today. Its odd... I've found that the more weight I lose the worse my TTOM cravings are. And I mean BAD!! I had a complete breakdown this weekend. I think a lot of it is the stress of living here. Sunday was just not a good day for me. I haven't worked out in a week. Likely to get back on the elliptical this evening. Wonder if its weighing less that has changed the cravings or if it's just another of those "getting older" things. SIGH!!
Vstar: I haven't worked out in like 4 days now and today would be Day 5 if I didn't go, so I totally understand....and cravings--yup I had them last time too.. I'm hoping to make myself go out for a walk later on today..... if I can make myself..I really want my elliptical to come today! lol ...
