It's GREAT having new folks!!!!

Thanks, 4square-- I wondered if it was a Fair! Rain had us yesterday-- my head cold has my breath unhappy with the idea of effort yet, so we'll get back in shape together as we can! Not giving up is the important thing... I'm eager to get back to the walking again!

Now... My Happy News!!!!!

You shoulda' been able ta' hear me last Thursday-- even in Guam and Australia, lol! I was rejoicing in my heart enough as the relief slowly settled in...

As some might remember, my Husband was severely injured during the clean up after Hurricane Katrina came through here... Breaking all 4 limbs and his nose-- too close to a head injury!-- and ruining one foot and hand, as well as gaining a new hernia to join his old one-- badly torn anew... he was in bad shape. After a year of surgeries, he tried to work for another year... and found it impossible. He fought accepting his disability as only a former Superman can fight-- surely he could find SOMETHING he could still do! However, as Superman was weakened by Kryptonite, My Ben was faced with Katrina...

Once he finally accepted that he couldn't go on, (his back failed him to add to his troubles), we finally started the process of seeking help... After 14 long calendar months, we finally were given a Hearing-- which was very scary, as we'd had to fire our attorney along the way, and had to face the Judge alone, (the lawyer wanted us to claim from the date he fell-- and he'd worked, drawn unemployment, and had a surgery paid by Vocational Rehabilitation!), and now, we had nowhere else to go if the Judge said no...

We've had to survive these 14 long months without being able to work at all... selling what we had was all we could do, and rent came in a small way from a trailer... and we had to hold a funeral for my only sister in this situation...! I offered to try to work, but my Husband couldn't bear that... The pain never stops for him-- he just medicates enough to try to maintain a level 4 on a scale of 1 to 10, to make it bearable without addiction... and the pain meds have a terrible side effect of causing depression... he has really needed me at Home...

I didn't know HOW we could keep things going in such a situation-- most can't. Most lose their homes, cars, etc... It's a terrible set up for folks genuinely hurt... Few even know how these laws are set up...!

Lawyers are paid a set percentage by time... a month of waiting is 25% of a month's money-- $1,100 for us... 10 month's wait is 25% of $11,000 instead... so the longer the wait, the more the Lawyer gets paid! THIS is WHY our Lawyer wanted to start the date back further... 2 years would be twice as much $ for him!!!

We don't know what the Judge will give a Lawyer that is fired...

I am very Grateful for Miracles I've seen this year...! Wood that we couldn't sell-- from a failed business we had years ago-- sold... This year! We had to get a $56,000 mortgage 6 years ago BECAUSE we COULDN'T sell that wood...A partner was supposed to handle selling, while my husband handled production-- it was produced, but only partially sold...

We were able to clear the mortage 3 years ago-- we could have been suffering now, like so many are...

Now... so long later... it sold when we needed it the worst!

However, last Thursday, when we went to see the Judge, we were out of wood and beginning to rely on a credit card... A rejection would have been hard to bear...

When my Husband went in, she was very nice... we had many good letters from Doctors who knew and respected Ben, and a letter from Gene Taylor's office, too-- our local politician... We'd done all we could without a Lawyer's help, as it was our only chance to receive help... and... when you get a Hearing-- you usually don't know what the Decision is till a letter is sent to you long afterwards!

THAT is an added torment of the system I dreaded...

After all was asked and explained, she said, "I know you don't want to hear this-- but you'll receive a letter in 4 to 6 weeks about my Decision... But-- I'm going to tell you, I'm Ruling in your favor." 

No income yet, probably be months yet-- and eaten by the credit card...!!! But! Low income and stretching it are normal to us-- more canning ahead, lol! His being able to have Peace about not being able to work and keeping from losing all he's worked for, is beyond any words and Truly Priceless to me...

That is my Good News... At long last!!! We are still absorbing the fact that the 3 year wait is over, and he can have Peace about it...

This kinda' pressure has had me too deeply to diet lately-- I canned 1102 jars of food instead, lol! Had ta' do SOMETHING! It's been GREAT having the REAL convenience of my own home cooked foods ready to eat! Worked awesome at Camp Meeting, too, as I tried to control Ben's elevating blood pressure with Home cooking while away from Home and facing that Hearing coming when we returned... The stress has been awful on us both... and it's incredible to have it finished!

2bb...  I am DELIGHTED to hear your news.  I sincerely hope that the decision comes quickly and the money follows shortly behind.  Don't hold too much bad feeling towards lawyers as a whole.  Some give the profession a black eye, but for each of those there is one who is a good soul.  I'm just glad you're back with us.

4sq...  So excellent to see you've returned.  I pass by a 4square church every day on my way to work.  I didn't notice it for the longest time, but then saw it there one day and now think of you each morning as I pass by.

Boots....  Any new news on the job front???

Ladies... I am so aggravated with my elliptical machine right now I can't even speak!  We spent $700 on it and more on the stupid "extended warranty".  And in the end, what did we wind up with????  A loud, clunking piece of JUNK!!!  I have just made the final call to the warranty company to be offered NOTHING.  They say I can pay to ship it to the states for repair.  Can you imagine how much that would cost?????  SIGH!  So, I guess I'll just continue to use it as is until we leave here, and then I'll invest in a good one.  Professional model this time, no fooling around!

OUCH!!!!!! Sorry about the machine... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No offense intended towards Lawyers outside THAT one, actually! It's the SYSTEM that sets the pay as a NON-incentive plan!!!! Our Disability system has been in the News-- Nationwide, not just Mississippi-- for it's horrible waiting lists!!!!

When it's set up to hurt you if you hurry a case for your client-- how many would WANT to??

We have some very-well-respected FRIENDS who happen to be Lawyers, lol!

I got offered the JOB  and I'm going to think about it tonight and then let them know tomorrow if I want the position.....Yikes..I was so nervous on the phone..hopefully I can gather myself for tomorrow so I can negotiate some salary.....

2BB- sounds like God is blessing those who trust in Him!!

I have some very exciting news about my night. We had youth group and out of the blue my DH's other daughter walked in. For those who didn't know he has another daughter who was conceived before him and I got together. Things have been very messy with her mom, and if you read things I posted a couple of months ago you have some understanding of that mess.

Well tonight she was invited by a friend who normally attends our youth group. She was not told my DH was the youth pastor, so when she walked in and saw him it was priceless. Her mom didn't know that she would see him, and I slightly worry about her reaction but I know God has it all under control. I feel so blessed and I know my DH is breathing much easier tonight.....ahhhhhhhhhh.

I told earlier how I have been working on my relationship with God, I never expected for such blessings in such a short amount of time.

This month I have had many people reconnect with me. My maid of honor that I lost track of for a few years, a few old school friends from 20 years ago, friends that I was in youth group with when I was a teen. BLESSED. I am getting a major blast from the past and I am in awe. Some people I am sad to see where their lives are heading, but others I just want to shout because I am so blessed!!

You and your husband are very courageous and I am very happy for you that you got through a very tough time indeed.   That kind of determination always gets rewarded.  My father went through a disability suit when I was little that took a great toll on him and my mother and I saw what it did to him.  They also had to fight for years, but finally he was also rewarded at the end.  Your husband is lucky he has you to get through the good and bad. 

VSTAR: Sorry to hear about your elliptical.  It's so frustrating when you put that kind of money down. 

Boots: Congratulations on the Job!!  I hope you get everything you want.  You've worked hard for and deserve it!!

4square, I have gained weight this year and stopped counting for  4 months. it is very motivating to see other people who are in the same situation and want to start again. you are not alone. I like the spirit of this group. by the way, I have started to attend a bible study group and I like it.

A giant crane-type machine-- as my Husband dearly wants to do something on the Greenhouse project so we can start growing some groceries, and his feet can't stand much walking to use the machine to help him-- so I get to try it for him!!!!
