Report for 12/29/07
Calories = 1822, Burned = 3100, Deficit = 1218
I'm liking my percentages today, started TOM and sent the Carb Monster back to her cave for another 21 days. Sodium a little high, so lots of extra water and green tea. I make a big pot of tea and drink it while I'm on the computer, reading, cleaning, whatever.
Exercise = 60 minutes on bike/trainer, 20 minutes circuit training w/ my GRB (Giant Rubber Band)
Fat - 22.4% (47 grams)
Protein - 23.3% (109 grams)
Carbohydrates - 54.3% (253 grams)
Alcohol - 0.0%
Other - 0.0%
Daily Sodium Intake - 3,205 mg
Daily Cholesterol Intake - 245 mg
Daily Fiber Intake - 39 grams
Food Highlight of the day: Roasted beets with sherry vinegar on the grill. Two baked chicken/spinach flautas on whole wheat, low-carb tortillas, made in the oven (no deep frying), just delicious. SO made me a lovely skim milk latte with shaved dark chocolate (about 3/4 of a teaspoon) and started a fire in the fireplace, ah what luxury. We're watching the big football game and rooting for the underdawgs.
Exercise for tomorrow -- an easy effort 5K run (3.2 miles) and 20 minutes of GRB exercises.
SO is tickling me so TTFN (hai ya!!! Got him back with a belly flop!)

Hey,
I read on another posting that undereating will hinder weight loss, too. I truly believe it but if I ate 1100 good calories today and I am supposed to eat 1700... I rode my bike on the trainer for 30 minutes and did some upper body weights. I feel totally full and it's nearly 10 at night. How do I get those calories (without going to McDonald's, lol!!?) or is it okay to be so far under once in a while?
help!
Whoa there... I just caught this...
There's a noodle with 20 calories a serving? How big is a serving? What's the catch? Shirataki noodles? I saw a post in another forum that said they have no calories... there's a noodle with low or no calories? Why isn't everybody eating these noodles all the time? Why have I been obsessed with dieting and low-calorie eating since the age of 3 and never heard of these noodles?

Under-eating can inhibit weight loss.... but as long as you hit 1200 calories each day, it's OK once in a while. (You want to avoid 2 things ... eating fewer than 1200 calories, and having greater than a 1000 calorie deficit, after factoring in exercise.)

Ya know, this is exactly the sort of scenario that causes husbands to be PELTED with donuts!

Here's my report for today--I'm not done eating just not sure what I will eat yet for dinner, it's only 9pm, so I have time: but here is my report for now
Total Cal: 1100
Fat - 32.0% (43 grams)
Protein - 21.8% (66 grams)
Carbohydrates - 46.1% (139 grams)
Alcohol - 0.0%

Daily Fiber Intake - 22 grams

O' I have a question, how much fat should be a person's limit during a day?
Let's say you are supposed to eat 1200 calories per day for weight loss.
And you eat your 1200.
And then you burn 200 in exercise. You need to subtract this from the calories you ate ... mentally! (Don't take food off your log!)
You're effective calories are now 1000, so you really need to "eat back" the calories you burned to get to the 1200 minimum.
You DON'T need to eat back all the calories unless you'd (1) fall under the 1200 minimum or (2) your calorie deficit for the day would be greater than 1000 calories.

The MAYO CLINIC discusses how much fat you should eat daily.
"Health experts recommend that 20 percent to 35 percent of your calories come from fat. This refers to percent of total daily calories — not calories from each food item. So, if you consume 1,800 calories a day, you should have no more than 70 grams of fat a day. (35 percent of 1,800 calories = 630 calories, divided by 9 [calories per gram of fat] = 70 grams.)"
Because of my health issues and risks (diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high triglycerides), my doctor recommended that I limit my fat intake to 15%.... slightly lower than the 20% recommended "generally".
The American Heart Association has this nifty TOOL to make a personal recommendation of how much fat you should eat.

To the tune of Charlie Daniels' (?) song, "On the road again..."
In the gym-m again...

Crunch Buddy is my daughter's LARGE cat... who helps me do my weighted crunches in my Ab Lounger... and tries to help with everything else, as well!!!
Been VERY BUSY today- lots done, feeling good... finally got back into the gym...!!!
It's late, but it's GREAT!!!
I was dreading trying my weights again after my month off- but I did really good and feel like singing for the joy of it! My secret ambition is to be able to do pull-ups- which has NEVER been possible for me- having always been too heavy. Tonight I was able to hold my weight for a short time- TEN TIMES!!! WOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!! ![]()
I had a Luscious pumpkin smoothie as a reward and necessity after my weight session, when I usually get a simpler protein mix. I'm raring for my 3x a week routine again, and a GREAT 2008 now that I've got back and kept my main strength- just tired faster/ felt sore quicker, and that will improve fast. Gaining and keeping strength for the first time in my life has been a wonderful experience I can't express...having always been wimpy-weak, indeed- really! Not joking! 100 lb. deadlifting is really thrilling to somebody like me, lol! I'm now a "Gym Rat", at 45 years young, I suppose- with a "Gym Cat" to keep me company!!! ![]()
* wonder... Rat and Cat sounds a bit dangerous...! * ![]()
As it's now midnight for me, I'll post my stats tomorrow. I use approx. 1350 on gym days, and my average runs 1250 due to that vs. my 1200 daily goal.
Enjoyed reading everybody's posts- back tomorrow! Sweet Healthy Dreams, Gang! ![]()
* goes off singing... "In the Gy-mm again... I'm soo gla-dd..." * ![]()
I had to share!!!! I was just notified-
My "Epic" got stickied!!!! ![]()
My husband will be proud! He bore with me those 3 long hours of typing- he said I should have explained I meant "pecking," lol!
I feel so honored- and humble, too! ![]()
I hope it helps folks as much as it is helping me- except I've got a long ways to go on being a "Night-Owl," obviously, lol!!!! ![]()

OK my report for yesterday. Ate 2190 calories (man I was huuuuungry). Burned 1800 (usual sedentary burn) + 568 (2 hours of classes at the gym, Yoga and Latin Spice) = 2368.
So that's 2190 cals in, 2368 cals out. Not bad I guess.
I weigh myself daily. I know some do, and some don't, for me it seems to work better if I do it daily. Today I was down 0.2 lbs. I know it may not be "real" weight but I was happy not to see the number go up as I ate so much yesterday. I guess there really is something to this exercise thing :-)
Gina like you I always try to overestimate my cals. Like if I am not sure I will put in a larger amount of food and log larger amount of calories. And I do the same thing with my exercise. I think I probably burned more than 600 cals yesterday in two vigorous classes. One of them was Yoga which is a very difficult class, the other was a hard core cardio workout for a full hour. And man I am sooooooooo freakin sore today - esp my legs and butt!! It feels good though.
Supposed to be about 65 degrees here today so I think I'm going to go for a brisk walk around a lake. I live in TX and there is only one lake here that is not man-made. In the entire state!! Which is very strange for me b/c I am from upstate NY and grew up on one of the beautiful, natural Finger Lakes. Anyway I live near a small lake right in the city of Dallas. It's pretty - compared to the rest of the city anyway - and it's about a 10 mile walk around the entire lake. I don't know that we'll do the entire thing but at least a few miles.
Have a great day, everyone! It feels so good to be back in the saddle. On my way to my 2008 new year's REVOLUTION and goin for the gold!! :)
I just realized... isn't it resolutions? Like New Years Resolutions? Wow wasn't I off. I haven't ran for 3 days straight and I totally know that on Monday it's going to suck big time. I seriously need to work on upper body + abs 'cause I'm getting a lot of flab.
My breakfast wasn't too bad. I just had pita bread, cream cheese, apple, and a slice of lemon cake my mom made. (ok maybe it isn't that good...)
I know this doesn't relate to calories and healthy life style but has anyone heard of Ambit Energy? It's like making money home based. You just get people to visit a site you make and you make $100 each time. Of course there's like a start up fee of $400 but seriously check it out if you want to and tell me what you guys think.

I'll log in my details tonight.

How can I make walking fun?
You have to find a way to make exercise fun or else you won't do it. If you walk indoors on a treadmill, I recommend moving outdoors into the fresh air... Read more
