I always wished I was one of "those" girls that didn't seem to worry about what they ate or how much they worked out.

Amen, sistah-friend. But you know, at the end of the day, we're wasting our time, energy, and ability to love ourselves, thinking the grass is always greener (or the size 6 jeans are slimmer, if you will...)

I have struggled with this idea in all my "yo-yo" years.  "When I'm thin, I'll be normal like EVERYONE else," "I can't wait until I don't have to diet and can eat like EVERYBODY else," and "Why am I struggling with my weight, and EVERYONE else can eat what they want."

Let's live even our struggling days well, adapt what behaviors we need to be our best, and leave jealousy and resentment where they belong, directed at our public officials and corporate CEOs, of course! (apologies to anyone who resembles those remarks,) LOL

Hey all, Just had a great dinner--I'm not counting calories--I'm sick---Doc has me on meds to take 3 times a day for 10 days---I guess I was just going too fast too furious too hard--time to take care of myself! Lots of sleep, lots of rest and lots of good food---Everyone is doing great! Keep it up! Remember don't make food your enemy. I agree with RG and RG thanks for the post about your friend with cancer--I will pray for her. So let me step on my soap box for a second (ok) WE never know when this big bad/good world will take us or what will happen so do you really want to be known as the person who never enjoyed life because they were always griping about weight or always worrying about food? Do you want to be known as the girlfriend who always complained about not being small enough? Remember girls, we define who we are and how we see ourselves and how others see us: Don't let society put a standard on you: Let's break the trend: Let's be happy, healthy all around emotionally, physically, spiritually and all the ally's (lol) So in essence take care of yourselves. Don't let food become so evil and consuming all your thoughts--Have fun and still live life---(((ok jumping off my soap box)))) I just don't like it when my girls are so hard on themselves!! Take it easy ladies!!

HannaBanana ...

Looking at your menu, I have some comments.

First, your 6:30am breakfast was too small ... making you ravenous 4 hours later. Then you pretty much just ate carbs (not enough protein, not enough fiber, and no veggies) ... which probably caused your blood sugar to spike n' fall, spike n' fall for the rest of the day.

Suggestions:

Have at least a 300 calorie breakfast that contains a lot more fiber and some protein. (2 of those english muffins plus 100 calories of protein would be awesome ... that would give you 16g of fiber)

Eat more veggies.... find some you like.

Eat more protein. Try to eat your carbs WITH protein.

Give yourself a "budget" for things like cookies and muffins and sweets.

Exercise more on those days you end up eating more calories than you planned to ... it will help offset them.

Hope this helps!

Molly...enjoyed my radishes and thought of you.  That's a good arm work out. ha ha I cut two bunches of them and then washed them.
Now I've got to get more.  Out of radishes.

We buy six bunches of radishes as a time!

Thanks Boots and all for your prayers. My friends name is Jackie. If you are interested in seeing her artwork, PM me and I'll send you a link. On top of everything, she is caring for her mother who has Alzheimer's.

I'm an early bird today because I am excited to have lost TWO pounds this week! (w/ an average of 1824 calories, up from 1750 the previous four weeks.) So yes, it's true, w/ all the dang exercise, a "bump" in the calories to make sure to get under the 1,000 calorie deficit is what's necessary. I, like my grrrl Forks, have pretty much ALWAYS starved myself to lower weights, lo' these past 33 years, give or take, then slowly "creeped" or exceeded my previous starting weight. I'm not going to do it anymore.

This experience, right now, is the first time I've "caught" myself after a weight gain (this time, it was 18 pounds gained between April and Sept 2007), and gotten back on track within a reasonable time. Gosh, I'm flush with possibility!

And the goal of 24 Fat, 24 Protein, 52 Carbs seems to be the right target, as well. And my fiber average is up to 39 grams for  the month. Two more weeks to get it over 40 g average. Hoo-Rah!

I am exercising in some form 6 days a week; usually rest on either Sunday or Thursday 'cause they make sense for my schedule. I am careful to do some yoga each day that is beneficial for my thyroid (shoulder stand, plow, some inversion poses and backbends.) I am taking my vitamins, calcium, cinnamon and glucosmine/chondroitin. I am averaging 400 calories burned a day from exercise. So a pound loss from exercise, a pound loss from diet. I will TAKE IT!!

I've got to say all your help and support, friends, is getting my hard head right. Plus I have had tons of energy this week, and felt/observed changes in the old body.

- I could see my hips shrinking
- I was able to do things at the gym that I couldn't 3 weeks ago
- My hands and feet were warm more of the week (they are chronically cccccold)
- My hair and nails are growing fast (metabolism kick-started?)
- My skin looks great
- My vision was clearer (didn't have to use my "cheaters" to read the paper...)

Weigh-in report 1/18/08
SW = 290
G4G SW = 218
Last week's weight = 211.5
CW = 209.5 (TWO pounds lower, with an increase in average calories per day of about 100)
Go4Gold total = 8.5
Overall loss = 80.5 (hmmm, sneaking up on 100 pound loss, that's a surprise given the struggle of the last five months!)

Shrinking report (yes, we like it too...)

Bust (small part) -- down another .25 in
Waist -- down .25 in
Hips (at hip bones) -- down another 1 in -- yippee.
Thigh -- down another .5 in
Calf -- down another .25 in
Ankle -- down .25 in

for another 2.5 inches lost this week!! That's 5.5 inches just since New Year's, so the strength/resistance workouts are giving me results. (even though I drag myself there whining and complaining the whole time. But I can't let down my workout buddies!)

OK, now I just have to bottle this good mood and get it out to spray on myself during the hard days/weeks.

How you doin', friends?

Happy long weekend and happy birthday, Dr. King! Thanks for helping us recognize that our strength is in our diversity.

Love,
RG
Well here's Melanie's depressing weigh in report..........

198 this morning. Last week 196.5.

I took a day off yesterday. I didn't go crazy or anything, just didn't log in everything and no exercise. I did eat quite a few tamales for dinner though. I figured I needed a day off. It seems like I've been getting myself into a rut, so maybe yesterday will help me get out of it before I'm completely stuck.

So I'm hoping for a good weigh in next week, but then that might not happen either since I'll probably be right in the middle of water weight gain due to TTOTM.

On the brighter side though, I do feel like I have lost some weight now. The scale isn't showing it much, but I can wear 2 pairs of pants I wasn't able to before and my shirts are fitting better. So that's good.

Hi everybody. I'm new here, I just found this site, but I have been dieting and working out since the new year began. I started out at 256 and as of this morning I sit at 250. I'm hoping to lose 72 lbs. by August 9, 2008, so, 66 lbs to go. I don't know if it's possible but as long as I keep getting closer, I will be happy.

Good luck everyone,

Bobby

Hi Bobby!  Welcome to CC!  Sounds like you got off to a great start this year!! Laughing

Good morning G4Gers... My astronomical sodium intake from yesterday has left me swollen this morning (i couldn't even get my wedding ring off this morning!)Sooooo.... I've learned my lesson.  Cry  I have 2 pounds of water weight on this morning, not so happy about that... but I ate it so I need to deal with it.  Drinking lots and lots of aqua today 8:30 am and I've already downed 22 ounces... Gonna beat this!

I had this "hot cereal" from Quaker this morning called Simple Harvest.  It's got no extras... whole grain rolled oats, whole grain rolled wheat, rolled barley, whole grain rolled rye, sugar, almonds, whole flaxseed, oat flour, natural flavors (vanilla and honey), salt and molasses.  Those are the exact ingredients on the label... I must say it tastes HORRIBLE!!!  Sealed  Not much added in the vanilla and honey area so it really just tastes like a bunch of whole grain stuff with water and lots of almonds (that was the good part, gave it lots of crunch)  SOOOO... question... what would YOU add to something with these ingredients to make it more palatable?  Not a huge fan of berries, but I'm TRYING to get over that.

last week  161.8

this week 161.2

BIG LOSS!!!   .6

Wow!! I won't say anymore than I was a good girl and the scale is evil!!!!

       &nb sp;

last friday- 180.8

yesterday- 178.6

2.2 lb weight loss!  woohoo Cool

today- 180.4.... 1.8 lb of water weight.... UGH!  Back on track today and feeling good though.  I think the mega cals yesterday helped my body out because my cold is a million times better today.

Forks, thanks for the info... I'll definitely try raspberries first, but where do I find that other stuff?

*Off I go to start on my never-ending pile of laundry*

When do you all eat after you get up?  Say I get out of bed at 10am.
Feed the pets.  Do some duties. Make coffee. Drink it.  Hop on computer. Two hours after I'm up at Noon I'm hungry.  Ready to eat.  So, it takes me 2 hours before i want food when I get up.  What about the rest of you?  curious how long you all wait to eat breakfast.  I hope 2BB says 2 hours is fine.  I know i"m not changing it.  B/c I'm always gonna feed the pets and make coffee and drink it before I eat.  No escaping that.

I wake up around 6 am and eat by 6:30.  Usually some hearty cereal or oatmeal.  Then after I get some cleaning up done and get my oldest on the bus (about 2 hours later) I eat another breakfast usually with eggs, whole wheat toast and a fruit.  Each breakfast is around 150-200 cals.  Then I keep my other meals around 300 each with snacks everywhere in between.  I go through snacking phases where I eat the same thing for days in a row.  Recently it was Pineapple, now it's Grapples.  Who knows what will be next... hmmm... maybe radishes or berries if I can make myself try them!!!

The Lion is down to growls... but NOT very lamb-like, yet! Wink
