Hey Pam!  Hope you are taking it easy today after your busy day yesterday!!!  From your short little "Hi"  I guess you are!  Haha!

Okay.. I'll see if I can do that Dances... check my pics in min.. hehehe!
Good instructions there Dances!  I gotrdone!  Now I have a Gold Medal too!  Hehehe!

Well, I am gonna head to the bedroom and do my elliptical I think before bed.  I had a good calorie day for me today.  I have been busy doing lesson planning and housework and stuff.

Hi everybody!!!

I've been here, busy trying to figure out, 'What to eat so late?' Surprised

I've finished deciding now, so I can post it, lol!

I was 'Dwelling on the Mountain' today, working on a brand-new song, and didn't want to spend time with food! Spent all afternoon, between Church services, working hard at the words, chords, playing, typing- then practice, practice, practice!!! THEN, tune my 'harp- which AIN'T easy...! (Imagine 6 guitars worth of string, much tauter then usual, and you'll be close to how tedious it can be!)

Then... I went to Church and played it...!

New songs usually kinda' 'haunt' me till I share them, lol, so I usually 'escape' after I do... but I'm still humming and singing this one...! At least it was a lot of fun! Laughing  Based on the 23rd Psalm, it turned out lovely, and my youngest decided to come to service just to hear it- because it kept putting her to sleep when I was working on it! (I'll have to think about that! SurprisedWink) She said it turned out well, which is sooo comforting to amateur's like me!

* Whew! *

Now... For today, activities were high, due to Church and all the practice!

Burn= 2380 vs. 1200 exact-a-lact-ly!

My loss rate says I'm not that high in burn, so I'll stay at 1200 today.

Fat= 24.2% or 36g... Protein= 25.8% or 85g... Carbs= 50.0% or 165g... Fiber= 41g

Grade- I can't seem to stop!- is another A avg.

Had 2 quarts water, aiming for another if can, had a balanced diet, except poor in veggies, had fruit instead due to late meal time. Good day!

Good night, sweet dreams to everybody close to  my time zone, lol! Laughing

* wanders off... still humming... "The Lord is my Shepherd, what more could I need?..." *

Edit...    I wonder...  Sheep...?  If we could be content with just grass and water...? Nope...Sheep get 'Heavy', too!

Yes, I guess I'm crazy...! Wink Too many sheep in my poor tired brain, today, lol! Laughing

I've decided to be a p.i.a. and check in every day...it may help (ESPECIALLY with the holidays and chocolate goodness all around me) to get my butt in gear here.  I'll check in post days rather than pre-days so I can be honest with myself and others. :)

Everyone is doing so well so far!!! This is great and I'm so happy this thread and the group itself is growing.

Saturday, 12-01-07:  Ate well within my 1200 calorie limit.  Percentages were all where I wanted them to be with carbs a little higher than I like, but mostly due to a broccoli overload that evening. :)  Ran for 4 miles.

Sunday, 12-02-07: Ate a bit over my 1200 calorie limit.  Sundays I make a rather large dinner for everyone so I allot myself a few extra calories since I am diligent in my "diet" and exercise through the week.  Home made miso soup with mushrooms, tofu, immitation crab and seaweed, Pork loin, reduced fat popovers, broccoli and some homemade sorbet and no pudge brownie for dessert (mmmmmm!) (- that was our dinner last night).  No exercise, but I typically take off Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, so...I don't feel bad! :)

Good for you on your vaca Molly!!!!  I hope you enjoy the time off.  And Gina, I hope all is going well in your home...now that you are home. :)   Yay for new songs bitty!!!  I'm glad you were able to share it with the masses (...no pun intended!) so quickly.

Yesterday started well enough. I ran 6.25 miles and before noon I had consumed 552 calories (Fat 8.1%,Protein 41.8%, Carbohydrates 50.1%), and my sodium, cholesterol, and fiber intake were all where they should be.

Then I went to my mother's house, where she was gettin gready for the holidays by making some pasteles (meatpies)--a typical dish for Puerto Rican families during this time of the year. She likes to make them in advance and keeps them frozen until we're ready to eat them--which we do a lot between now until the end of the holiday season. They're really tasty, but I doubt that they are the best for me nutritionally.

Anyways, we had to "test them to make sure they were okay". I tried to leave before they were ready to be served, but she insisted that I stay for dinner. I had a couple of pasteles with some white rice--very tasty, but I have no clue how many calories I consumed in that meal.

So hopefully, it's back to normal for me today. The part of me that is a control freak doesn't like the lack of control I feel when I have dinner with my family (especially during the holidays)--I have no idea what ingredients they put in the food, I don't know what oils, grease, lard, etc goes into the food my mother makes, and I don't have the trusted food scale that has become my crutch. All of that, plus the expectation that I will fill up my plate and return for seconds (or thirds) totally interferes with my need to be in control.

At the same time, however, I don't want to isolate myself from the family or from the customs and traditions that bring us together. It's not good for my relationships with family members, and more importantly for my long-term weight maintenance, totally cutting myself off from "real life" is unreasonable.

I guess it's all part of living a healthy lifestyle while living in the real world.

wrm...whenever I eat at someone else's place, I ask for a smaller plate than the rest of what everyone is using.  It works for me.  I only fill my plate and at this point, while my scale is a crutch, I'm pretty good at eyeballing "servings" and specific ounces.  Usually I try and use an appetizer plate.  I do it at home too, that way I'm not eating as much as I would when using a "normal" sized plate.

In other words...I know how you feel.

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions, Tatjana.

I still don't trust myself when it comes to eyeballing serving sizes (not yet)--hopefully it will be part of my learning to live in maintenance mode.  And yes, using an appetizer plate is something that I should have done yesterday, no matter how my family reacts because of it.

OK - Here I am. Weekends I am not so vigilant  to posting.  Last weekend I did major house cleaning and walked 2 miles.  Foodwise I was pretty careful on Saturday, but Sunday I made tacos while watching football and made a cake (I know - That was a mistake).  My Hubby and I needed a treat.  Today I am keeping within my calorie range and went to the gym in this howling wind.  Worked out for about an hour.  I plan to weigh in at the end of this week. I use the smaller plate idea especially when it comes to pasta.  Sounds like everyone is on track.  I hope to report a good loss end of the week.  Bye for now - Nicole
TGIM all you workaholics! Taking a little workbreak... need to clarify my comments on heart rates. FWIW -- I am a spinning instructor, and a League Certified Road Biking instructor, but certainly not a doctor or expert.

The best way to know your fat-burning zones for cardio-type exercise is to go to your gym or exercise physiologist and have a VO2 max test done -- that is the most accurate. But you can work with the following numbers too if you're into that kind of thing (being CC-ites and into the burn rate, etc.). If you're exercising with a heart rate monitor, you can track what zone you're in. If you're not into all that techie stuff, used "Levels of perceived exertion"-LOPE- during workouts (the number to the right of these percentages...) The high-level heart rates burn lots of glucose; thus the need for gatorade drinks, and extra carbs in the diet for "race day" sustained high-heart rate exercise.

220 - age = maximum heart rate (MHR) (10+ LOPE)

MHR x 65% = endurance, or fat-burning heart rate zone (5-6 LOPE)

MHR x 70% = medium endurance, also fat-burning (6-7 LOPE, you can still have a conversation, but you feel it)

MHR x 75% = high endurance, top end of your fat burning zone (7-8 LOPE, you're sweating, maybe can answer a question, but don't really want to)

MHR x 80% - 92% = upper end heart rates for interval type exercise work. (8 - low 10 LOPE) To be maintained in ONLY short spurts for beginners, with recovery to 65% built in. (eg, run on the treadmill at high speed for 2 minutes, then recover to a walk at 4 minutes.) At this level, you won't be able to talk to your workout partner, just keep breathing!

Hope this makes sense.

Calories for today: 1452 18% fat 30% protein 52% carbs 35 grams of fiber.

Exercise: housework and a short walk, today is recovery day!

Well today was kind of a cheat day for me, so I don's calories or percentages ot post.

We went to a Chinese buffet. I am getting better at handling a buffet.

I had lots of calories left when we went. I've upped my calories to 1500 on non excerize days because I don't think I've been eating enough for my height and all. Then 1600-1700 on cardio days.

So anyways, I didn't eat anything fried. I didn't do any rice or noodles either. The only thing I ate in a creamy sauce was 2 peices of this honey-mustard like chicken. I had mostly broccoli and beef, shrimp, mushrooms and chicken.

So anyways I think I'm improving, because I love lo mein noodles and I didn't have any!
hey everyone! the weekend went alright - i was just recovering from the flu so didn't have a chance to go to the gym. i've got finals coming up, so a lot of my time is spent studying! my weigh-in day is tomorrow. today was a good day, i stayed within my range (1200-1400) and got out for a walk with my dog. it was too cold to go for a long walk, but i managed to get around a few blocks. it was -25, but the wind wasn't too strong so it wasn't that bad once i was all bundled up.

glad to see everyone is doing good!
