What are some good books to read?

Sorry for so many topics but as I said in another topic, I'm freaking out!

What books do I need to be reading if I just became pregnant?

The best book I have read is "Straight from the Hips"  It has real captions from real moms about everything you could possibly think of.  Its written in real time without any biases as to natural/c-section/medicated births.  It's written from two women in NYC whose babies changed everything for them!!!  it's quite funny and it has given me a lot of comfort.

It covers EVERYTHING

also; just remember:  Healthy eating + Pre-natal Vitamins + Water + no alcohol = healthy mommy healthy baby!!

I don't know if you're a tuna eater; but that's the fish I've stayed away from.

No I'm not a tuna eater. I just read to stay away from that. I'm so mad that I cannot drink wine. I love wine, especially Chardonnay. :/

i know!!!!!!  i'm a chianti person myself.  It's a little rough.  But; just think; now you can watch people get druck and act stupid and you can laugh and make fun of them the next day!

The next nine months will fly by.  But I cannot lie and say you won't be dying for a glass of wine!!!

"Immaculate Deception"

It's most definitely biased (towards midwifery and away from hospital births), but a good read that gives a perspective that is quite a bit different than what's in mainstream American culture.

I also recommend watching "The Business of Being Born" which is a documentary recently done by Ricky Lake about labor and delivery. She herself had one child in the hospital and her second at home; the movie is an exploration of the trend in America away from midwifery and towards hospital births. It also is biased, but I really found it very interesting. When I first became preggo I immediately went to the hospital that all my friends had delivered at and altho I never had a bad experience....the docs and nurses were wonderful....I decided to change to using a midwife through a birthing center. After changing I started reading all sorts of info about midwifery vs. hospital births and found some really interesting information. My baby is "due" in 3 weeks and I'm so happy that I switched to using a midwife. Maybe you're already going this route, but if not it's just a suggestion!

Congratulations :) I hope this pregnancy goes really really well for you!
