Good Dog, Smart Dog
Who knows if the studies mentioned will be debunked, but for now, this is awesome.
Extraordinary. Not a big surprise for dog owners, though. We just thought ours was special. :)
Very cool!
Lulu is special :D
Not sure about the pathways but yeah, one of our dogs understands several words (not just sit, stay, fetch).
the other one is just an emotional understander. She can't grasp when we point (the ball is over THERE lucy.. she comes up to your finger, while buddy runs off to get the ball). she only knows sit and sometimes stay.
they're both labs. The smart one is a lab/greyhound mix.

my lulu is "special". LOL
My dog understands words outside of commands. He knows "bunny" and "cow" (and he's only ever seen a cow from the car window). And he acts much more excited when he sees a dog than any other animal.
But then he's really stupid when it comes to other things.
My dog gets into the litterbox and eats cat poop on a regular basis. We had to rig the door to the laundry room so she can't get in there.
How smart can she be if her favorite snack is cat poop?
outside of commands, among others, Lulu knows
- bone
- bunny
- duck
- want (as in, if you ask her what she wants, she'll point at her bone or bunny or food or outside or whatever. it's a pretty abstract concept for a dog, I think.)

Maybe it has nutritional value we're not aware of. ;)
cool article, thanks for sharing DN!
i especially like the part where they say how dogs understand the concept of "being a dog" and can differentiate between photos with dogs and photos without dogs. Murphy watches tv when there are dogs on tv, but it doesn't catch his attention when humans move around on tv. so it's defintiely not just and sound (cause he's deaf) or a motion thing.
i think this just further proves that Ceasar Milan and all his "pack leader" garbage is just that. dogs know we aren't dogs!

The smell is pretty bad. The worst part is the crunch from the litter stuck to it.

It's like the dog's answer to Almond Roca!
Hence proving my husband's theory that everything, even a good conversation, eventually ends up in the litter box.

Pretty smart because cats don't digest their food all the way. Cat poo is a fatty treat to a dog.
That article is cool, I didn't know dogs could tell all that stuff.
The rats know when I'm really upset, they act all agitated.
My little hellhounds know cookie, daddy, mommy, walk, pick up your kibble, sit, stay....that's about it. They know eachother's names too.

rats are super trainable! I trained one for a psychology class. But then it got sick and died. I didn't replace him.

How do you get your dog to come to you when you call it? It must be hard dealing with a deaf doggie.
And I agree, Ceasar Milan is a joke, but he has good intentions.

But, she's still eating poop. That's not very smart. Plus it makes her breath horrid.
