Good Energy Food?

Quote  |  Reply

What's your favorite energy food to eat before a workout?

I have dance classes for three hours only twice a week, but I'm never sure what to eat beforehand. I normally go with Kashi Vive cereal and some fruit or cheese, but I need something that will give me lots of energy. Smile

One more question! Innocent I think there's a rule that you divide your plate into 1/2 veggies, and 1/3 lean protein and carbs each. Does anyone have good ideas to do that for breakfast? Thanks!

Not sure about a work out, but before work I have some bee pollen.
My daughter takes it before she cleans the house.

Caution do not take if you are allergic to bees.

I don't see how those fractions on the plate add up.  I would think it might be 1/2 veggies, 1/4 lean protein, 1/4 carbs.  But two-thirds and one half make more than a whole...

However, to make it work for breakfast, I would change the veggies to fruit and go from there.

are veggies not allowed for breakfast or something? lol.

Depends on the workout/what I'm feeling like having/how much time I have to digest what I eat before working out.  I usually have a bowl of mixed cut up fruit (banana, apple, cantaloupe, berries, grapes...a combo of whatever I have in the house) with cottage cheese and almond or peanut butter/nuts sprinkled on top, but that is because I run and prefer to feel satisfied but not heavy.  Other things I may have, depending on how vigorous my workout will be, are:

- bowl of cereal (Kashi GoLean), with a mix of Fage 0%, kefir and cottage cheese, and cut up apple or berries, sprinkled with cinnamon

- oatmeal with fruit (cut up apple or berries), almond butter or peanut butter or nuts mixed in, sprinkle of cinnamon

- a whole wheat wrap (or Arnold Sandwich thins) with almond butter and sliced banana or apple

SO yea, I post this EVERYWHERE... but I adore pureed pumpkin with cinnamon & stevia along with a poached egg before a work out! It's top notch when it comes to creating VIGOR for your work out!!

Now that pumpkins are getting back into season, they will be more readily available but you can always buy canned pumpkin too which is available year round!!

Pureed pumkin is an awesome and often overlooked low cal, nutritional powerhouse veg that it finaminally versatile. Another winter squash that you can use in the same way is Butternut squash. You can often purchase it already cut up and frozen in boxes, so you can just thaw and eat!

I happen to love cooked bulgar wheat 1/2 cup dry and boiled in water (plain) with a hard boiled egg chopped on top and a few sliced raw almonds and drizzle with some organic almond milk. Sometimes I'll throw in some frozen or fresh blueberries and a drizzle of organic honey...this breakfast is "energy" and then some for me!

I typically eat a banana and some mixed nuts pre-workout.

And I usually have some form of veggie with breakfast. If I'm having and omelet, then I load it with veggies: tomatoes are my favorite, but leftover green beans, mixed veggies, or whatever is in the fridge works. If I'm having something else, sometimes I just have V8 with breakfast.

Oh, of course, they are allowed.  I don't know why but I usually associate fruit with brekkie.  That said, my favourite breakfast is a bowl of homemade beans.  Beans are sometimes considered vegetables!
