Good enough for an excercise ?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi. First of all, I'm 13. Ok... Now, I have a treadmill and I run it on it 5 miles, 5 times a week. But, my soccer season just startedbackupand i have pratice twice a week and a game once a week. Pratice is on tureday and thursday and games on friday. During pratixe we run and strentch but its not as intense as my treadmill. Like i dont sweat during practice or games but we are moving for awhile. I was wondering if you think soccer practice and games can count as my excersing for the day ? I want your opinion because I run on the treadmill for about an hour which is the lenght i should be runnning, and i sweat, push my self enough to burn a good amount of calories....however during practice its for 1 hour and half but I dont sweat or feel tired like i do on the treadmill but I am still playing soccer. During practice we do get like breaks and stop for the coach to show us stuff too so its not like im constantly do soccer for 1 1/2 hours. Do you think having my soccer practice/game can count as my excercising for the day instead of doing the treadmill ?   ( i'm just not sure if i really have to do both treamill AND soccer)

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

Soccer is one of the absolute best sports for cardiovascular fitness.  Absolutely your soccer practice can count as your cardio, but...

(and not to go all "former athlete dad" on you) if you're not tired when you're done with soccer practice or games - and if you're not even sweating during them - then push yourself harder.  Run the drills faster, run harder when playing, really push yourself at a very high intensity level, to the point that when you're done with practice, you're spent.

If you do that, it will accomplish two things for you:  first, you'll get an even better workout and burn more calories; and, second, you'll be a much better soccer player!

Soccer or other competitive team sports are better exercise for you than treadmill running in my opinion - the way you sprint around and constantly change speed and direction gives you a very varied and fun workout.

Running is good for you in different ways as well, and it's good to move however you do it - but yes, soccer absolutely counts as a workout.

Move and have fun ;)

Could the not sweating thing be due to the fact that soccer is played outside where it's cold and the treadmill is inside where it's warm?

Thanks for the opinions. ( the sweating thing might be due to the weather)

to answer your question, soccer or practice definitely counts as your exercise for the day.  Young people usually (and should) get their exercise by playing.
