what good excercises can i do in a small room?

Quote  |  Reply

i have never liked the idea of a gym. in fact it terrorfies me.

i live with my family, and apart from going for walks (and the occasional trot when no ones looking) i find it hard to get excercise.

so what i want is basic excercises that i can do, in my (quite small) room, with no equipment, that are calorie burning and strenghtning.

i dropped PE a long time ago, so i need some help...

thankyou!

I don't know about the lack of equipment- though cans of food etc can be substituted for weights and there's an article someone will be sure to post here about using your body as a barbell which is great.

I don't blame you for the hesitance in going to the gym- I never have, except for when I was made to in school. I don't see the point, really. People, cost, not having the flexibility to do more embarrassing exercises or indeed strip down to your underwear... you probably didn't need that image.

Anyway, the space in my room is about 1x4 metres and I manage a WIDE variety of exercises with hand-weights and an exercise ball comfortably. You'll be fine.

Good luck!

Pushups, situps/crunches/legraises, lunges, squats are all excellent in-home exercises that can be done with little floor space.

Try these:  http://caloriecount.about.com/article/partner /no_equipment_workout_for_travelers

There are other workouts online, as well, if you just google something like "no equipment workouts".  "Your Body Is A Barbell" is one I've seen recommended often:  http://www.alwyncosgrove.com/bodyisabarbell.h tml

And for cardio (in case these don't get your heart rate up enough):  Jumping jacks.

Good luck!

Get a pair of dumbbells it really expands your options.

I don't go the gym either, I just do calisthenics for the most part, which mostly consist of:

1. Push-ups (Usually raised, meaning hands on 2 dumbells/books/object)
Chest and Triceps

2. Supermans/Viper
Back mostly, maybe glutes partly

3. Bicycles/V-Ups/Crunches
Abdominal muscles

4. Pull-ups
Forearms, Biceps, Lats, shoulders + other assisting muscles

5. Squats
Legs

6. Wrist curls
Forearms

Basically I just do exercises which use lots of different muscles because I'm lazy.

Using your own body weight as already mentioned is the way to go if you don't have equipment. It can get boring though and sometime you just don't really have the strenght to do many repetitions. In this case small doses throughout the day might be helpful.

When you are ready to purchase something, you can go for something that takes no space and is light weight so you can travel with it, like the TRX suspension system. www.FitnessAnywhere.com .This system helps you use varying degrees of your own body weight and as far as exercise equipment goes is pretty affordable. If you do get it make sure you get the door attachment. I use this system one or twice a week to mix up my routine.
