Good fitness books

Quote  |  Reply

Hey all --

I've been weight lifting for almost a month and a half now and loving it. I also love to read books about fitness -- I just devoured New Rules of Lifting, and I was wondering if there was any other book the regulars here would recommend. (no worry about the price).

Thanks! Smile

If you don't mind getting technical, Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, the preferred NSCA-CSCS manual is great, but it's more geared towards the professional who wants to coach for a living than the recreational trainee who wants to train for health reasons.

Starting Strength  and Practical Programming for Strength Training are also great books, and work well together; Starting strength could use a little expanding on the programming side of things for the third edition...

You might also want to look at Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle - one of the most comprehensive diet books out there.

Thanks, guys -- I'm currently reading Venuto's book, it was a good buy.

Oh, forgot to add:Maximum Strength by Cressey is also a good book; though it overlaps a lot with the NSCA manual it might be a better choice for anyone who doesn't intend to become a professional trainer.

One more vote for Starting Strength.
