Good Girl or Bad Girl?

Quote  |  Reply

There was an Incident here in CC a couple weeks ago...I won't go into it but suffice to say that things got a little ugly. Amongst a lot of other nastiness, I (and others) was accused of being...Good Girls. And this was not a compliment. It  kinda threw me because I have always considered myself a bit of a Bad Girl. So it's been on my mind. I am generally nice, polite and restrained even in the face of boorishness. I am fairly liberal in my views and outlook in general...but I do believe we all need to consider the societal impact of our own actions. We are responsible for keeping the world a safe and healthy place for ourselves, eachother, and future eachothers. Maybe...just maybe...I AM a Good Girl? Maybe my penchant for alternative music, liberal sexual attitude and practices (liberal but ultimately monogamous) and non-conformist beliefs are not enough to spring me into Bad Girl status?

I am wondering...how do you define Good Girl and Bad Girl? Where do you place yourself, and which do you think it's better to be?

Hey, don't listen to what some person called you. You are what you decide to be; no one else can make that decision for you. As for defining Good Girls and Bad Girls, I think that is merely a matter of opinion. ...Personally, I'm kind of in between good and bad... lol

I agree with Meep- you are only a good girl or a bad girl based on your own definition. How the heck would any one, except possibly your closest of friends, be able to determine if you are a GG or a BG?

I agree with you that it is important to consider our actions, and I think there is a fine line between a bad girl and someone with no social grace. I, too, am polite and well mannered....what can I say, I was raised well. I am nice and well spoken and I carry myself in a way that would make my mother proud. Good girl?

On the other hand, I am a little different. I like breaking social norms, and falling outside the realm of stereotypical. I share your liberal sexual attitude, I date outside of other's comfort zone, I have my share of piercings and tattoos, I have a taste for distasteful music and I have a ton of quirks.

I don't know if I would say I am a bad girl, but I am not a goody-goody...thats for sure :) I think it is better to be whichever you truly are, whether bad, good or in between. Personally, I enjoy getting good grades and not using foul language....and then getting into 'trouble' when only the people that matter to me are watching.

Go figure.....

you really shouldn't take what anyone says on the internet about you as any sort of fact.

I once received a birthday card that said, "Only the good die young, we bitches live forever!!"

To this day, it's still my favorite birthday card.

Its been my experience, that "good girls" always have a dark side and vice versa.

Then you have the argument about what fits into what category.

To me, there is no way any type/genre/artist/music taste can define you as a good or bad girl.

I tend to be rude/sarcastic/and I get annoyed easily, not sure if that makes me "bad" but definitely unpleasant to some.

I'd like to clarify that it didn't upset me or make me question my worth as a person lol....just got me wondering about people's perceptions of "good" and "bad" girls. Like I said, it was not used as a compliment...when did being a good girl become an insult, and why?

There is that quote about how good girls rarely make history... and that song "Bitch" that is an anthem to, well, being a bitch (well more about being multi-faceted really), and of course all sorts of sayings like the one in zimcassy's card. Maybe I see being a Bad Girl as more of a feminist issue, about not feeling the need to conform to stereotypical standards of women, and that's why I considered being called a good girl such an insult.

Yes we all have both good girl and bad girl in us...I am just wondering what women today identify with more.

I think I am mostly good girl, which I say because I do follow the rules unless I truly believe that the rule is a bad one (or that whoever made said "rule" is a dumbass)...but the default for me is to follow the rules. I don't break them just for the sake of being contrary.
