hey. i just signed up for an account with all garbage so i could answer your question. one trick that I have is carrots. I buy nice carrots, preferably organic from the grocery store and then prepare a whole bunch of them at once. you can divide them up into bags of 4 or something like that. they're really nice because they taste good, good for you, and what i really love about them is that they quench your hunger long enough for you to think clearly about if you want something else; give you time to cook or whatever. but it keeps me from reaching for potato chips (although I actually don't keep stuff like that in my environment any more).

problem of course is your primitive reptilian brain says "i need food" and your logical brain barely can keep a handle on it, even though your logical brain knows that there's no shortage of food.... yada yada yada.

seriously though, go to the grocery store, buy carrots, even raw green beans are a treat for me, my mom would always snap them to cook them but i just love them raw. also you can prepare bell pepper (especially red, very good), but just prepare it ahead of time, clean out all the seeds, cut into substantial but not overwhelming pieces, and again you can divide it up into plastic bags for example, that way if you are on the run you can quickly grab a couple baggies out of the fridge and you've got maybe 3/5 fruits and vegetables in a day. also.. if you like them, tomatoes with a little salt on them (although it'll make you retain water more), or radishes (espeically attractive if they have been soaking in ice water in the fridge. maybe that would work well for green beans too. probably carrots.

anyways, hope this was useful to you in any way, sorry it's not organized but this is about as much energy as i feel like putting in :-P

Thanks Pete!  I have the carrots throughout the day so by the end of the night I feel like if I stuff one more carrot in my mouth...

But I will try the other veggies.  Especially the green beans.  Variety always goes a long way huh?

Thanks again!
sometimes i have oatmeal at nights. i dunno if thats bad for u but its just those 100 cal packs and since its really substantial, it fills me up nicely.
fat free vanilla yogurt and rice krispies ... mmmmmmm :P
I have whole wheat/rye rolls I make, 100 calories a piece and loaded with carbs, mmmm carbs are good, that and I hit 30%+ protein everyday without trying.
brown rice cakes (35 cal) with all fruit spread - satisfied the need for crunch and for sweet.
Well, you said low carb, but I find I can't sleep if I don't have enough carbs. So I tend to concentrate my carbs at dinner. If I am having trouble sleeping, it's carbs to the rescue for me!

Sometimes I'll just have one additional 1/2 cup of whatever grain happens to be in our rice cooker: rice, quinoa, kasha, etc. But often what I really crave is something cold, not hot...

My snack lately has been a Tofutti Cutie, or Jello pudding cup (just 60 cals but high in sodium) or 1/2 cup plain yogurt blended with frozen berries.... I tend to crave creamy cold stuff late at night! It might be because I grew up having ice cream every single night as a kid. :-)

I've also been known just to drink a glass of soy milk. I'm lactose intolerant, hence soy.... regular skim milk works just as well. And sometimes  I'll take one slice whole wheat bread and one slice cheese and make a toastie. Those are good tricks when you find yourself wide awake again at 2 AM and your tummy is grumbling!!

If it's chocolate I'm craving, I have one chocolate bite... I have these chocolates that are only about 25 calories each.

Sometimes I crave something to crunch, and I do what Peter does - only carrots, with tons of salt, will do. Except I also have some pickles along with them!! For more salt!!

My only concern there is that in my past life, when my first marriage was failing, I used to crave crunchy foods at night because I was angry and trying to stuff the anger down... I figured that out when even though I'd changed my whole diet I was still having trouble losing weight, and the culprit was the box of cereal I'd munch down every night, night after night. :-(

So if I crave crunchies, particularly at night, I ask myself if I'm angry about something. If it's just that I'm craving salt, then I go ahead with the carrots and pickles!
what i've read is that later at night you want something that will digest quickly.   Fresh fruits and veggies fit the bill perfectly and are naturally low cal.

Sleep tight!

I have been a muncher my whole life!! I barely eat at meal time and snack often.  I eat dinner around 7 and get a snack attack at 11ish.

Thank you very much for all your tips! I'm going to try the jello and the pudding.  They sound yummy!! I usually crave something crunchy or sweet ehh I crave just about anything!

Bananas are supposed to be a good night time food.  They actually help you go to sleep also.  I like frozen fruit (if still frozen you get crunchy fix) or edamames (give you protien so you don't wake up hungry).
Clementines! I swear by 'em.

Cottage cheese with blue berries!

Cottage cheese is a protein with a low glycemic index so it will feed your body through out the night.... little to no fat storage! you'll learn to love it
