Does anyone have any good oatmeal ideas?
Normally I eat my oatmeal cooked with pumpkin, cottage cheese, vanilla soy milk, spices, etc.
But after reading the book "Skinny Bitch" I don't think I can ever look at dairy the same anymore.
Anyone have any REALLY yummy + easy oatmeal ideas? (preferrably 200-400 calories.) I usually use about 1/2 cup dried oatmeal (150 calories)
Thanks!
I also eat a half-cup of dry, whole oats every morning, and I ususally make them the same way; with 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1 tablspoon of wheat bran, 2 tsp of milled flaxseed, and 2 tsp wheat germ.
Lots of healthy stuff in there, and you can add brown sugar too if you want...I've tried it several times before, but it's good either way. ![]()
I did a fast Forum search, using the search link at the top of the forum. Here are past threads that might give you some great ideas!
You can get a lot of good ideas just by searching for "oatmeal" in CC recipes, and here's a really good website for recipes:

I use 1/2c quaker oats with 3/4c water (they're too runny for my tastes with the recommended 1c of water) and nuke it for 2 mins 30 sec. When it's done, I smash up a banana in it and then put a tablespoon of milled flax/goji berry combo in it.
So good, no dairy, extra fiber, and goji berry deliciousness. :)
Thanks for the ideas!
Today I tried something new and it came out quite tasty if anyone wants to give it a go: I just heated some old fashioned oats, vanilla soy milk, added some cinnamon, agave nectar and blueberries. Very yummy and filling. I like eating it with a side of apples or a banana.
1 pkg. plain instant oatmeal
made with some soy milk and just a touch of water
microwaved on lower power for about 2 1/2 minutes
added cinnamon, half of an apple (chopped),.and 1/4 c. pumpkin puree
microwave again for another minute
added 1/2 chopped banana, crunched up almonds, lil. bit of honey
microwave until it's to the thickness you like...:) I LIKE MINE THICK :)
OH IT WAS DELISH :)---
With my oatmeal I usually have half a cup of raspberries and blueberries mixed in. It turns everything a rich mauve/maroon colour. =] Then I add a tsp. of syrup on top. YUM!
lately i've been having it with a mashed banana and about a tsp of peanut butter (organic & no added sugar). i LOVE it! i should try apple & peanut butter...
sometimes i have it with apple & cinnamon, sometimes i add a bit of vanilla protein powder, over the summer, i'd have it with a nectarine & cinnamon, that was awesome!
and if i feel like having something chocolaty as a snack, i have it with some low cal chocolate powder (the kind you'd use to make hot chocolate, not cocoa powder). it's great too!
One of my favorites is apple pie oatmeal--peel and cut up an apple, spice up with generous amount of cinnamon, a little nutmeg and some brown sugar. Microwave for 5 minutes. Add the oatmeal and water and stir. Mike for another 5. You can do the do the same with blueberries--a half cup frozen--but you don't need to cook them separate first.
Another is to just mix in some fresh sliced strawberries--so tasty.
I absolutely love Quaker Oats' Lower Sugar Maple and Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal... you can make it with water instead of milk and it tastes just as good!
By the way, I read Skinny Bitch too... doesn't it just change your life? I can't make the switch to vegan... it's too inconvenient for my family, but I'm thinking when I start college next year I might give it a try!

Cook the oats in water with 1 grated apple, a few raisins and a teaspoon of sugar (or honey if you so please).
Top with soy milk if you don't drink cows milk and there, one yummy breakfast.
Though, i must admit, sometimes i have it for lunch too.
